Blackhawks might accept this trade. Murphy's value is pretty high with his contract tbh. Might cost a pick more.

Real Asset Management
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>#1) No need to start insulting people because you don't agree with someone. I know that's part of the weak societal culture we live in nowadays but it's incredibly immature and lacks any intellectual integrity.
#2) You will 1000% have to retain on McCabe, he's not worth his cap hit; he played like absolutely crap last season.
#3) You weaponize the cap on other teams. For example, pickup Zucker from Pitsburgh for a 2nd, retain half and trade him at the deadline for 1st or 2nd. You are getting assets twice instead of negotiating with a player who has arbitration rights and risking arbitration; they are not assets unless they have value today which they clearly don't with arbitration rights and the lack of any teams wanting their RFAs with arbitration rights. Alternatively, there are plenty of cap dumps the hawks can pick up from other teams and make the pay to move them, retain and flip them at the TDL or in another year. A lot less risky.</div></div>
Really not sure where the insult was here?

Real Asset Management
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>You only have 3 retention spots, why would you waste those on players that aren't under contract and one of which (Kubalik) had a real down year and has a $4m qualify offer. Especially in the case of Kubalik is makes zero sense. Strome would have likely gotten $4.5M, some analysts say $5.5M. There's simply not that much value in using a retention spot versus using it on Kane as example who at $5.25M retained will get a nice haul back. McCabe and Murphy are two others that probably need to be moved eventually.</div></div>
Kane, Toews and one of these two. You would not need to retain on Murphy or McCabe at the deadline. You're arguing you'd rather have zero value for assets vs any value. I guess there are more people than I thought who cant see basics of how to grow team value

Real Asset Management
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>With both, because Kubalik or Strome and their agent can take the Hawks to arbitration which as widely reported, Strome would likely award him $4m to $5m; that's also why the Hawks have had trouble trading him...too big of a risk for any team. With Kubalik, it's harder to say what arbitration would have given, but his QO is $4m and that is rich coming off of a subpar performance last season for him. As UFAs, they lose arbitration rights.</div></div>
So what they go to arbitration? Trading them even after arbitration with 1/2 retained proves that whatever team they go to is getting a player at half their AAV market value. If you're rebuilding, you do not let players with value walk for nothing.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HiddenValley</b></div><div>Real asset management is trading them, along with De Haan, at the deadline. You can only retain three salaries a year, this would limit them to only being able to retain on Kane and likely unable to trade Toews at all. </div></div>
This is a good point, the could only do it with one of them. Still should have been done. They really should have traded the players rights for ANYTHING prior to the QO deadline.

How is this a "yikes"
This is a great move for the hawks for this coming season. They don't commit to any FA long term with Jones deal coming next year along with resigning Dach, Strome, and Kurashev. It makes perfect sense... for once.

Dallas Stars signed Miro Heiskanen (8 Years / $8,450,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>He doesn't yet have the full body of results that would garner a contract like this, and as they didn't get a discount for going long (as I don't think he'd get much more than this in 3 years time) I would have bridged him.</div></div>
You don't get a "discount" for going long. The longer the deal for a guy who will be in his prime the entire contract the higher the AAV. Miro is going to be underpaid in the last 3 years of this deal. Overpaid at the start, underpaid at the end. A short deal might get you a slightly lower AAV but you then are going to have a higher AAV on the next contract.

Most these people that spew garbage on here are getting their info almost strictly from charts on twitter or here say. The people that watch the Hawks know that Keith still is a capable defenseman. He'll be exactly what you'd want in a veteran #4 guy who plays 20 min a night. As long as he's not your #1 he will provide positive value. Unfortunately for the Hawks he had to continue to be our #1 guy the last 3 years.

Dach will never be on the same level as Eichel? Is that really a question?
Adding Eichel for these pieces makes complete sense for the Hawks. All they need is to find a top pairing defenseman and they become a playoff team. Its either make big moves now or prepare for mediocrity for many years to come. The hawks don't have any superstars in the pipeline and constantly 8-15 wont get you one either. When Toews and Kane aren't useful anymore the hawks are will be stuck in mediocrity.

Taking on a 6M contract in this flat cap climate has to be worth A LOT more than 9 OA vs 11OA in a poorly scouted and unknown draft. The Hawks would be VERY dumb to make this trade. Carpenter is a meaningless contract to the hawks, they can just bury him for almost no cap hit if they wanted.
