The Athletics proposed trade
Can’t see it; Garland is just way overpaid (& undersized). Schenn is too slow & absolutely not needed. Kerfoot is not going anywhere; Leafs made that clear in expansion draft.
Leafs should be aiming a lot higher than this

The Athletics proposed trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>I4evrblue</b></div><div>Over the past 2 seasons Garland has just 4pts more than Kerfoot. Before that yes, he was more productive, but Dubas is on the hot seat, he isn't about to pay for the hope that a guy can reclaim his game from years prior (at least not in this case, where the player would come at a cost of 4M per season for 3 more years).
Kerfoot plays C and plays on the PK as well as the 2nd PP unit. Garland doesn't play the PK and doesn't play the middle.
So Kerfoot is cheaper, more versatile, used in more situations and is a pending UFA
vs
Garland, who is more expensive, less versatile, used in less situations and is overpaid for 3 more years (even with salary retention).
.
It doesn't make sense and this "rumour" is based on nothing more than the fact that Dubas tried to acquire Garland a couple of years ago, but obviously decided against it, combined with the fact that he is now untradable in this salary cap landscape, but they want something to talk about and the Leafs get clicks.</div></div>
I don't understand the Garland fascination with Leaf fans. 🤔

Would LA move him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>I4evrblue</b></div><div>I don't see any reason for LA to move him. Their guys still want to win and they're in a playoff spot. Not about to profess to know all there is to know about LA but it doesn't make much sense from the outside looking in.
Maybe you can get Sean Walker this summer after he recovers, considering how good Durzi has been.</div></div>
As a HUGE Los Angeles fan, I couldn't improve on this analysis, as to any point in it, so I'll just reprint it.
The last sentence is particularly impressive.

Not sure how a first, a 1st round level prospect, a second line left wing, a second, and a 3rd is very little.
Could get topped but it's a pretty decent offer, I think.

Difference between Byram and Sandin is not enough to downgrade from Nylander to Compher.

I think i know what side to believe.
Sandin is 100% a better prospect than foot. And even if Foote was as good a prospect as Sandin, a 1st near the 20s, sandin and a 3C who cant defend to save his life or even hit 40 points does not get you a 30+ goal 1st liner on a good contract</div></div>
You are making that up, because nobody says this, no metrics show this and you clearly haven't watched much of him play.

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it.
(Also Nylander had 7 goals last year...Zacha had 13....so....how 'bout that?)

My correction - Foote would be #2 to Robertson, ahead of Sandin and the rest.

I like the idea of the trade as the leafs get a top pair guy with term and is in the correct age bracket. Florida is probably going to lose both dadonov and Hoffman (possibly haula) they are in desperate need of forward support(also shedding cap). Obviously the leafs add in a deal like this. Maybe Kerfoot or Dermot plus a draft pick or prospect. This would be a tough trade to make but it would certainly be fun

Panthers are also a extremely low budget team, and Nylander compared to Ekblad saves them $10.5M in real cash. & Ekblad is not a true #1. He's a good #2 but doesn't have the offence of a #1. A package of Nylander plus another cheap NHL roster player and a pick is well within range of his value
