Both teams are pretty happy with their player, I don't see either one doing this.

Brodie broken.
dude use to be a 40 point player. His last 3 years a 20 point player. Hell this year he's barely on pace to break 20 points. 20.9 Last year 1 goal.
31 year old defensemen with clearly declining stats.

Meanwhile Mathesons play been improving every year for the last 3 years, and the guy has been on 10+ goal paces from the blue line every one of them.
He posted this thinking everyone was just going to go Brodie LOL man anyone even looking at the production know this ain't even close.

I’m sorry.. but what?!

It was just last season that everyone was trying to dump Matheson for whatever they could get. Now you think they wouldn’t move him for Brodie? Matheson is downright awful in his own zone - guy should be a winger, not a defenceman. Brodie has been a consistent defensive standout for Toronto and his point production is still decent. Not to mention that Matheson’s contract is 2 years longer at a terrible cap hit for his type of play.

There’s absolutely no chance Toronto entertains this idea.

The guy is a defensive standout every night for Toronto. He doesn’t play PP at all - that’s taken by Rielly, Sandin, and Muzzin the majority of the time. His point total is expected to be lower with less offensive time.

If you think Brodie’s “broken” because of his point totals, you don’t know jack shiit about hockey.

just go one and tell me, explain that drop in production there. I've heard the "he's a defensive defenseman" argument. How a 40 pt defensemen magically becomes a "defensive defenseman" is funny. But go on. Explain how a guy who use to be consistent 40-30 points now is struggling to crack 20. On a team with a high powered offense.

What are you on about with point production from defensive dman. Would you trade Dumoulin for Matheson? I'm a pens fan and I think your dead wrong on your take. Brodie was literally the Leafs best player in the playoffs last year

You guys must be going based off the contract of Matheson. Please look up stats before you go off on people. Matheson has been downright awesome. He has nearly double the amount of points as Brodie. Your arguement back is gonna be "He sucks defenseively". That is also false. He might make a few mistakes here and there, but everyone does. He's been good defenseively and good enough to the point where I'd rather keep him and his contract than trade him. Brodie is the same way, good defensively (Same as Matheson). Matheson should be put on the PP instead of Marino. Matheson is learning off of Letang right now. He looks very similar to him. I'd also like to add that Matheson is one of the best skaters in the league.

reading your arguments is funny.
you take points from people who also based guys like Guddy.
Who played well. You were all wrong then and you're wrong now. Just go ask CGY how Guddy's play is. Just like ANA was more than happy with it.
Some people get some opinions on 1 year of a player, and on here it sticks forever.
Matheson don't get PP either. Come find me a blueliner your finding dropping 10 goals a season like clockwork the last 3 years. Go tell me what you're paying for that.
For a guy so awful in his own end he sure is holding his own.
You'd pay 5+ for him on the open market today easy.
So you can go on and on. But even looking at TJ even strength stats, they are all in decline.
But he's a defensive guy LOL has like 200 more give away than take aways at even strength.
You go on a narrative. I got off what the numbers and play says.
I'm not sitting here making up excuses. You are the one doing that.

but you go on points and nothing else, brodie plays the tougher minutes, against the superior opponents, plays PK, and is on the ice protecting a lead down 6on5, matheson is on the third pair and plays no special teams hes way better defensively, its not close

Simple;
In 2018- 2019 he started in the offensive zone 50% of the time and had 34 points. Since then in 3 seasons he’s started in the offensive zone 45.9%, 50.8%, and 48.1% of the time… ironic how the less offensive time he has the amount of points he has goes down.

As mentioned before, I guess you think Tyson Barrie is an elite defenceman because of his point totals! & how did he work out on a high powered offence in Toronto? .. shocker!
