in a hayes NYI OTT
Islanders have 7 Dmen that are all fighting for time right now. That would be terrible use of cap space for the Islanders to throw an 8th Dman into the equation. Not including guys like Dobson and Wilde who could fight for a spot next year.

Yes, but you only re-coup the money once you start to go over the cap.

Senators aren't trading Gaborik. A fully insured contract means they don't have to pay a dime and get to reach the cap floor. Their owner gets wet dreams thinking about that contract.

Lehner isn't signing that and now you have no money the next off season to sign Barzal.
Also if Zaitsev plays over Toews we fire Trotz into the sun.

He was a different player when he signed that contract. A young defenseman coming off a 35 point season. Now 27 with 3 points in 40 games, he isn't the same player. We already have to find a spot for Hickey when he comes back. Zaitsev and the Islanders just aren't fit, no matter who gave him the contract.

Gonna have to give to get rid of Zaitsev. Would rather play Sbisa over him. Throw in a first and another pick and maybe the Islanders think about. We don't need more dead contracts sitting around.

Mayfield has turned into a Hamonic lite. Physical RHD, who can move the puck and is on a decent contract. Need more than that to pry him away.

That is not how it works for players in the KHL. That rule only applies to Euro players. Sorokin will have to sign a 1 year ELC. Staple did a piece on it a while back.

2018-2019 OFFER-SHEET? NYLANDER
Dubas would be ripped for not matching or at least matching then shopping Nylander. Yeah, it is probably gonna be a lotto pick, but you can get a lot more for Nylanders than a lotto pick and a 2nd and 3rd.

the complete rebuild
Islanders easily pass. Losing Boychuk hurts the d even more and bring us closer to a lotto pick. Then have almost 9 million in two bad players who probably make us worse.
If you are looking to get the Islanders pick for a cap dump, it starts With Ladd, and Clutterbuck. Even then it isn't worth giving up a potential top 5 pick.

Thanks. A little mad right now, but it is wild the how much better this team looks. Seguin, Hedman, Kane, Larsson. Obviously goalie is still a weak spot, but with the D there I think we could keep a couple pucks out of the net.

Obviously I am a little salty right now. It it is crazy to think the person that was supposed to save us, might be the one that sets us back even further again. This core looks a lot better then what we have now.

The team sits incomplete, but holy cow this team looks a lot better than the current roster. A legit number 1 pairing on defense. Seguin and Kane are a solid 1-2 punch.

And then in camp he take a bad spill and messes up his knee or back. Where ever he signs it will be for the full term. 100% chance at 70 million is better than >100% of 90 million.

Something CBA loophole. Something wink wink deal.
He would be foolish to do this. God forbid something happens in training camp. He will take the 7-8 year no matter where he signs and get the guaranteed money.

sign tavares 1 yr then re-up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>Yes, I already proposed this creative way to circumvent the CBA in order for the Leafs to use their excess salary cap to their advantage. At the max salary plus a max term contract behind it, $95 million total money would be a pretty strong play for the franchise center. The extension of course would be done immediately following the initial 1 year deal.</div></div>
And then Tavares blows a knee out or take on a career ending injury and loses out on 10s of millions of dollars. There is 0% chance JT takes a one year deal. Wherever he ends up. It will be the max term he can get.
