A Draft Strategy for the Mystery Box Known As the 2021 Draft
Good strategy if you feel like your team has the experience and tools to have pre-scouted all of these guys in advance, over the past years. If you're say ** cough Arizona ** does it really matter how many more draft picks you have?

I'm stickin' to it for now. I'll grant you it's bold. But, look at his production since the bubble -- it's probably not sustainable -- but if so, he has to be on this team.

I know... I'm strictly rationalizing it by having Horvat skating at wing. I like Tavares' grindy game at centre. But then, I'm also second-guessing leaving O'Reilly off...

If this was today, Petry would be on the main roster. I would think he's still at this level for next year. He's starting to look like the new Giordano -- in terms of a player who seems to get better with age. He's always had speed and offense to his game, but it's his defensive reliability that keeps improving .
Also, he's just clutch. He's up there in terms of GWG and overtime goals.

Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfrojelin</b></div><div>That silly american sport knows how to run a league... but I digress. I think in fact you're overvaluing a bottom pairing defenseman... because they are in fact a bottom pairing. IN FACT, not even a bottom pairing guy, it wasn't until rumors of a trade request that this player played in this season. Additionally, you are just wrong. If you would read (if possible) this article https://dobberprospects.com/2020/05/16/nhl-draft-pick-probabilities/ you would see it is a 22% chance a player selected in the 4th making the league, basically 1/5. 22% is not 3%</div></div>
I'll give you the exaggeration, but it's roughly a 12% chance to be an impact player after the 2nd round [ https://oilersnation.com/2020/10/05/has-nhl-drafting-improved/ ] "impact" being someone who plays 100+ games in the NHL. There's a big difference between that and and the many players who play an NHL game and then move their career elsewhere. Plus, the difference is even more pronounced in recent years -- drafting has considerably improved. It's why 1st round picks are now nearly unmovable and 2nds are the new premium. Just look at the 4th rounds in the past decade, Mete is a standout. [ https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl-draft/en/round/4-round-draft-picks-active-players-all-time-games-played-leaders.html ]. He's already played 170 games at his age, with a 750K cap hit. I'm not saying he's a consequential player, but he can slot as a 5th-6th D in any team. So why would any team consider moving him for a 4th? So you can hope to be lucky and draft Mete 2.0....
And yes it is silly, they totally ****ized rugby. I mean... They're on grass, why do they need protective gear :awesome

I do think maybe he warrants a fourth, but where a player is drafted has nothing to do with their actual value. I mean just look at football, should the price of Josh Rosen be a first round pick... NO. I guess if any team wants to trade for Stefan Noesen his price is a first rounder?</div></div>
Lol you're overvaluing a 4th round pick. Why even compare this to that silly American "sport"? A 4th is a 3% chance at an NHL player. Mete is a bottom-pair NHL player aged 22. Thus, he's worth more. It's simple logic.
Go back to the drawing board and rethink your thinking process...

whos Seattle taking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habsfan00</b></div><div>granted but hes 36. hes way passed his prime and hes definably slowing down</div></div>
Is he though? It's never been his thing, he's a stay-at-home-D and I'm fine with it. The game has gotten faster around him, but his IQ and physique is still there. He can make his presence felt -- and we definitely saw it in the postseason. The optic for Weber, what we're hoping for is he has a similar career path to Chara's. So far, I think we have to agree he's meeting that expectation.

SEA will take Weber if you expose him... It's not like he's disappointed expectations, he's been roughly on the same point production his whole career. They'd immediately cement their veteran presence and captaincy. Also, cap won't be an issue for SEA upon entry. I think people are overthinking his salary. The term is not ideal (that's NSH's problem), but 7.8M is not that bad. I feel like people think 5M+ is considered a lot, without considering the exponential factor of higher salary. There's a hell of a difference between say Weber's cap hit and Doughty's cap hit at 11M. You totally draft Weber, even if you think he'll regress after one season.
I'd agree Evans is currently playing his way to protection. But then, I would think Lehkonen would become the most attractive pick for SEA

Habs players ranked - this year so far
For me, most surprising considering expectations is Evans. He worked on his skating/strength this offseason and it shows. Did not expect him to be this fast.
Lehky and Byron are the same reliable players they've always been. Armia wasn't great till his last two games. If I'm disappointed in anyone it's Danault (probably because of yesterday's turnover that led to the Lucic goal) -- and it's not like I'm particularly worried about his play. Otherwise, I agree with the ranking.
It's hard to criticize this team so far, I can't remember a lineup where everyone was clicking!

Anyone Concerned About Lafreniere
Remember how the comparison with Lafreniere was Huberdeau and Rantanen. People thought Huberdeau was a flop at first and it took a couple years for Rantanen's arrival (and current growth).
He probably just needs more size and strength for him to keep up to his style of play, he dominated juniors with his physique and strength over others -- the IQ is not in question, points will come
