The Sabres aren’t trading UPL
He’s getting a multi-year deal, and is the “starter” until Levi can beat him out. Who knows when that will be, if ever?

By the Sabers keeping UPL and Levi they can still bring in a veteran and give Levi time in the AHL and hedge their bets.

Late firsts and seconds are generally overrated value picks. If Toffoli secured a second and a third, I’m pretty comfortable Ullmark secures more
That package doesn’t secure Necas

Upl was solid last year, nobody expected him to outplay Levi, I certainly didn't. I'd be fine with alternating upl and Levi, or play the hot hand. I would have said Levi needs more ahl time, but I think with how he ended the season, he's ready for another look at the nhl. And while I agree that goalies dont carry much value, especially if they aren't elite, the Sabres have absolutely no good reason to make upl available for some spare part trade. Best bet for any team looking for a decent goalie, wait a year or two, hopefully Levi is ready to play 50-60 games, and the Sabres will be ready to move on from the bridge that upl will be on (hopefully, I hope adams doesn't throw anything crazy at him).

He’s a decent 3C, but he’s very very slow and doesn’t fit in here. Blues have Dean and Dvorsky who can take up the opportunity. He’s great at winning draws I’ll give him that, won close to 60% last season.

That is one disaster of a Olofsson contract, he is not a very good NHLer. The Devils (or any team for that matter) shouldn't go anywhere near that.
If the Devils aren't offering that deal to Toffoli then I'd much rather give that contract to any of the following UFA fwds, all way superior to Olofsson:
Marchessault
Arvidsson
Duchene
Novak
DeBrusk
Bertuzzi

If jets trade Hellebuyck
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tintin</b></div><div>I probably shouldn't have implied there are multiple perfect comparables. You're right that goalies of this caliber are rarely traded.
The best recent one I can really think of is that of Kuemper back in 2021. Pending UFA, easily a top 10 goalie at the time. 1st + 3rd + B level prospect.
Then there's Ryan Miller from the 2014 TDL. Pending UFA playing at the height of his powers going from Buffalo to the Blues. 1st + 3rd + Halak (lesser starter mainly for salary purposes) + B level prospect.
Going by these two comps, a futures laden Hellebuyck to the Devils deal should probably look something like 1st + 3rd + Vanecek + Graeme Clarke (or Nolan Foote)...
At this point in time I'd probably rank Hellebuyck as the 8th best goalie in the NHL behind:
1. Saros
2. Shesterkin
3. Sorokin
4. Vasilievsky
5.Gustavsson
6. Oettinger
7. Ullmark</div></div>
I kinda feel like some Devils fans on this site are purposefully undervaluing Hellebuyck at this point. He should be no worse than 5th right now.
Also, no way is Saros is #1. He's great, but he's not better than Igor, Sorokin or Vasy.

How would canes and devils fans feel about this

I mean that statement is just blatantly incorrect but ok. If Hischier maintains this level of offense, he is easily better than Aho.
Hischier:
EVO: 10.3
EVD: 2.8
Off: 13.9
Def: 1.6
GAR: 20.3
WAR: 3.4
Aho:
EVO: 9.9
EVD: 0.2
Off: 12.2
Def: 0.7
GAR: 15
WAR: 2.5
Hischier is better offensively and defensively. The GAR model doesn't even value Hischier as highly. While he finished 2nd in Selke voting, his defensive metrics are just ok using this model. Despite that, he is still better than Aho

Yes Nylander is better right now, but it’s not worth giving up a 21 year old who’s already a good top 6 player + a 1st for a pending UFA, especially when Mercer is producing similar to Nylander did at his age

Here is the quote from a mail bag article a couple weeks back. It’s literally just speculation:
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Arpon</b></div><div>I know the New Jersey Devils showed interest in him last season, and I don’t know if that’s changed with the acquisition of Timo Meier, but they can serve as an example of how an Anderson trade to a contender could work. The Devils have been slowly giving more and more to Alexander Holtz – the No. 7 pick in the 2020 draft – but unless he takes a big leap this season, the Devils might come to the conclusion he doesn’t quite fit their window, which is right now. If the Canadiens could leverage Anderson as a win-now proposition into a young player with growth potential, they will surely do it. It might not be Holtz, but it would likely take someone like him to convince the Canadiens to move Anderson because I don’t think he is viewed as someone they absolutely have to trade.</div></div>

I still think Veleno could make a good 4C. He has good size and speed and doesn't mind throwing the body. IIRC I read an article in the Athletic where Perron was mentoring him. Trying to get him to show more confidence and believe in himself. Maybe it's more mental than physical?
You're right about team's limited cap space. GM's are bargain hunting right now.
With Zadina the effort was there but he was squeezing his stick into sawdust. I'm not expecting much from him. He's a found lottery ticket.

The devils did everything right. Siegenthaler and Marino were analytical gods waiting to breakout, Fitz acquired them for cheap and gave them opportunity and now they’re huge pieces. It actually doesn’t make sense how there are 0 holes in that defense… plus the devils could’ve kept Graves and Severson but didn’t even need to because they had so much other talent. Just crazy.

Crazy
Yeah I think that this is a reasonable offer for the offseason escpecially if you sweeten it with a additional late pick for 2024. However, If the Bruins do plan on moving Ullmark they arent going to do it for cap reasons this offseason. They have better options for freeing up cap space for Swayman and Fredric contracts, like freeing up forborts contract via trade or buyout, or trading grz if the deal is sweet enough on our end. They have made it clear that they have no need to force any goalie trades especially when both still want to play here. I imagine if a trade is going to happen its going to be at the deadline for a team who really needs some goaltending and are willing to drop a first round pick.
