Leafs Possible Offseason

Turn it into a 2nd and it's a deal. If not, try another team or just buy him out.</div></div>
Would much rather buy him out than give up a second. Why would the Leafs do that its not that bad of contract. And why would the Sharks not accept this its a free mid-round pick?

And the 25% retention was for cap and I could be wrong but I don’t think sharks actually ever paid out real dollars to Foligno. But on that I could be 100% wrong.
And I know most teams don’t love Toronto because you guys and Montreal are the cash cows and desired destination for most players. You also have to remember we offered Tavares 13 and he chose you guys at 11 that leaves some bitterness too.</div></div>
Thats a solid point about the ownership but I have a hard time believing they would go as far as to nix such a minor deal because of a relatively small immediate financial loss. Also I do believe that when a team retains they pay salary. As far as bitterness goes, thats almost certainly a fan only thing. These are professionals who conduct business in that way. Toronto has never actually wronged san Jose and they have made deals in the past.

Sammy absolutely does not get 4.5. At most I could see 4, but hes an RFA he doesnt have much negotiating leverage from everything ive seen high 3's sounds realistic. Murray will get more than the minimum in free agency, especially with a team that has free money to play with. He was fine last season. For example, Chicago just threw a lot of money at AA for no reason other than they could.

They won’t do it because there are a dozen better goalies in the FA market that give the same thing and no one in hockey wants to do Toronto a favor. We’ve argued this over and over and over without a high pick we decline.</div></div>
Ok fine so its a fourth rounder instead of a 6th big deal. And cap is completely irrelevant to the sharks, they can take on this deal and not be close to touching the max. So in reality your not "taking on 5 mill in cap" because cap only matters to teams that are threatened by it. If anything it would be more about ownerships willingness to pay a couple extra million for a free fourth rounder. And did the people in hockey tell you that they hate toronto and don't want to do them favours even if they feel it benefits their team and jobs? I seem to remember the Sharks taking on 25% of Nick Foligno's cap hit for a fourth rounder to help the leafs out.

I would be fine with that. I would buy him out before trading a third-rounder or more. Probably would rather buy him out than trading out of the first also. We are still in a solid spot cap-wise for the future. But if we can give up a fourth or less im happy to do it, and I dont think that will be difficult to make happen. He's a backup goalie realistically, with a little more upside if healthy, making a couple more million then he should with 1 year left. People seem to be overstating how bad of a contract it is because its the Leafs. If we can give up minimal assets id do it.

Because they have the cap space and get a free pick, as well as a stanley cup veteran to work with a younger goaltender when they currently don't have a backup. And its only a one year commitment on a contract that isn't that bad. Maybe its a fifth or fourth instead but thats not really the point. Why wouldn't they do it?

For a team desperate for any legit goaltending I would think the Sabres would send a 6th or 7th for his upside and the need to hit the cap floor for the next couple years. If it doesn't work out there is no harm done.

No clue what Muzzins value is, he had a rough year but was hurt throughout the year. Was great in the playoffs when in better shape and playing with the right partner. Also this is the first bad year we've seen out of him. Also important to take into account that teams don't always value players properly. Muzzin is a physical experienced defenseman which is often overvalued. A team with an old school coach, cap space, and a need for his type of ability on the back end might pay a price for him. No clue though just in theory. It seems like the best fit for him but the point is more that he gets traded to create space, not where he gets traded or what for.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Watching Muzzin play right now is painful, I wouldn;t say he has negative value, but his current play and his 5.6mil cap hit will keep many suitors, even desperate ones, from offering little of equal value.
Toronto's only hope is tkachuk is tricky in negotiations as an RFA and they get him straight up for marner, but I doubt CGY fans do that deal. (Not to mention no one is taking on almost 16mil in salary for those two without dumping cap back)
Tavares wont waive NMC to seattle, and no way does seattle give up Dunn for him, let alone add a 1st and 2nd.</div></div>
None of this is all that realistic its just for fun, but yes this is under the idea that Tkatchuk doesn't get a deal done. Tavares NMC is something I can't predict so I kind of just ignored it. You have to remember that how teams value players and how fans do is extremely different. Look at the haul for Risto and Jones this offseason, and then tell me Muzzin doesn't have value despite him being bad this year lol, same with Marner. And with Dunn, they were considering moving him this offseason, same with Tkatchuk.

I hadn't heard anything about an Anthony Mantha level return so my bad. Engvall is a bottom 6 forward, Liljegren is a projected 2nd pair defensman and fits your timeline, Abramov is a projected middle 6 forward. This package probably isn't enough but as I said, don't focus too much on the specific package. It could be a first instead of a second, it could be Amirov instead of Liljegren, I don't know.

Leafs Offseason Rielly Trade Edition
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>Rielly has a lot less value to the Preds than Ekholm does, even before you start asking for retention. Middle six seems a little optimistic on Hallander to me. I think he'll be a fine bottom sixer one day, but everyone has a few guys like him in their prospect pool already. Holl doesn't do anything for NSH - they already have Ellis, Carrier, Fabbro, and Benning on the right side. Holl would be fighting with Benning for the opportunity to be the healthy scratch. Much like your expectations for Rielly, the Preds would expect a 1st+ for each of Ekholm and Forsberg. I'm afraid you're not offering anything NSH would want.</div></div>
You make good points. I didn't think it was too realistic anyways. I've seen that Ekholm and the Preds could reach an extension this offseason so I don't think they would trade him. Forsberg is clearly unhappy and that team has no direction, they just sold low on a top 6 winger but apparently are still looking to add, so while I wouldn't predict they trade Forsberg, its not unrealistic to say the Leafs could push for him. But both of them together I don't think they would do. This was more an experiment to see how the team could improve with a Rielly trade, and realistically, they probably wouldn't unless it was a Hamilton deal, which isn't happening.

Reports are Rielly's trade value is that of a highly touted prospect and a first. Hallander is a projected middle six center. I wouldn't expect them to accept this but this with a second pair defenceman and a second round pick is not a bad deal for two guys on expiring contracts. I'm also accounting for what they valued Arviddson at.

They have flat out said Terry is a future building block at their exit interviews. Once he started playing on a line with Comtois and Zegras he looked great. He is not being shopped and the only one that knows if he wants out is himself because there is no actual proof of that, its just a baseless claim, if you read the quote from the article you sent me, even Friedman was just blindly speculating “One young player who <strong>might</strong> be up for a change of scenery is Troy Terry in Anaheim,”
There is zero certainty in that statement, it is pure speculation, and bad speculation at that
He said Terry was being discussed at the deadline when ANA were looking to add a superstar forward, not a mediocre prospect and a 4th liner.
The 4th period reported the young pieces that could be on the move this offseason are Lundestrom, Steel, Tracey and Perreault. Not a single mention of Terry anywhere near trade talks in the most recent reports and management singled him out as a building block for the future of the Ducks, not another teams future</div></div>
What superstar forward were they getting for Troy Terry? And saying my claim is baseless because you don't believe in the top reporter in the sport cause it isn't what you would like to hear is not my fault. Its just a fun mock team. I didn;t say the team lost because of him, I said that he failed the team. I still love Kadri and have no hard feelings towards him.
