If Devils really have to trade Hall
It's always amazes me that so many folks get all panicky and think UFAs HAVE to be traded. On average there are about three UFAs per team.....they all don't get traded, and where would they go if it so urgent that no team is supposed to have upcoming UFA on their roster.
Cup contenders, even playoff contenders do not trade their upcoming UFAs...they try to keep their team better for playoff run for their fans and their players sake. As we see every February some UFAs by non playoff team to teams who are trying to improve themselves in the players. I do expect Hall to be trade at TDL (if he isn't injured) because IMO the Devils won't be in the playoff hunt. The return a prospect and a pick which will be in the mid 20s.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>I am honestly confused by the premise of your AGM. The Devils don't <strong>have to</strong> do anything. Did Columbus <strong>have to</strong> trade Panarim or Bobrovsky? No way. All NJ needs to do is prove they can win, and this isn't some sort of mediocre team - they have plenty of skill. That being said, Hall needs to stay healthy. Even if Hall is not prepared to sign an extension mid-season, NJ should 100% take the gamble if they are still in the thick of season by the deadline. If nothing else, that proves to the league, and to other potential UFA targets, that they should be taken seriously as a playoff contender, as opposed to the continuous stream of good luck top lottery picks they've been getting.</div></div>
Couldn't have said it better myself

Dubas isnt done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>For arguments sake, I would not include a 1st at all cost. Even if the Leafs scout extremely well and can make up for their lack of first rounder in 2020 (or 2021) because of the deal with the Canes, the Leafs are going to need to find a way to replace some of their D because let's face it, they can't resign everyone. And where is the best place to look for such things? The draft of course. So, I think my deal, as is is extremely fair, but I would even add that the Ducks could throw in Eaves to the deal so that he goes on our LTIR. Remember, the Ducks are not a rich team, so them paying players like Kesler and Eaves when they are not going to be on the ice this season, while it won't crush their bottom line or anything, is certainly something I am sure they would want to avoid, if possible.
If you wanted to add a 1st to the deal, I would say Ceci, Bracco and a 1st to Anaheim for Manson, Eaves and one of their mid-level prospects.</div></div>
I agree, was just wondering, also id be good with taking both of Eaves and Kessler, assuming he will never play again and im sure the leafs medical staff could take care of that.

With Barrie and Muzzin heading into UFA status next season, the Leafs really need some cost certainty on their blueline. Ceci, Bracco, Timashov and a 2nd should be able to get the Leafs Josh Manson.</div></div>
Sign me up for that trade!!

I like it personally:) I think it helps both teams too.

Dubas isnt done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>Anaheim has no reason to do that trade. Leafs second is going to be 45-61, so moderate value at best. Bracco is a good prospect, probably equivalent to a very early second, maybe a very late 1st, but he isn't a stud given how its taken him some time to get where he is.
Timashov is fine (I was actually pretty excited for him back in the Q days) but he's a meh prospect, unilkely to be worth more than a mid round pick, call it a 4th for arguments sake.
So Anaheim is going to trade a building block they have on D at the right age, for a good but fair contract, for an inferior defenseman who will be UFA in 1 year for two 2nds and a 4? It would make sense for them if Manson was 5 years older, but at his age, I don't see the upside for them.</div></div>
What about if TOR changed out the 2nd for a 1st?

I agree but for arguments sake what do you think about swapping out the 2nd for a 1st? If that's what would get the deal done.

imo the Blackhawks have so many options at 3rd. Cozens/Dach/Byram are who I'd choose from. They could move down as well I think.
OR they should trade it for Taylor Hall with a extension. Wonder if NJD/CHI would do something like that.

I wouldn't if I was Toronto. Gostisbehere is worse than even Muzzin on defense. Don't let anyone deceive you he has 50 Giveaways and 18 Takeaways this year, and a 32.7% dZS.

Lines tonight - and one surprise on D tonight too
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>I just don't think Muzzin has been a good fit. When the Leafs win, everything is fine and dandy, and issues seem to go largely unnoticed by the masses watching. Then suddenly, they lose a couple of games, and all these issues are noticed, and magnified because they are playing in Toronto. I think Muzzin was bad acquisition for the price.
Kadri has been largely non-physical all year. Not sure why, but I don't think he will provide that grit someone like Chris Kreider, Simmonds, or Ferland could offer. Also, he's a very capable center. Willy is a line driver, but the pressure of being a center, doing the defensive work, makes him less than ideal for the role, at least for the moment. Marner and Matthews will never play together long term because they are both line drivers.</div></div>
Yeah, that's all fair.
On Kadri to LW - The idea of kadri heading to the LW is done without any further trades coming along to address the LW, which is cleary an area in need of improvement. I agree, kadri hasn't been as physical this year, but each game that he is, he certainly is more effective. Plus a line of kadri-JT-Hyman (finally on his strong side...) could do well against Boston's top line.. and it'd be really fun to see Kadri and Marchant line up against each other over 7 games.. I think kadri needs a more prominent role on the team and to be given that challenge
On Willy at C - I think we'd all be surprised at how well Willy would do as a 3C with propper winger support.. I'm looking forward to seeing him there while Kadri is out. He's been heating up, and I think he is much better defensively than he gets credit for.. I think Willy needs a more prominent role and the team and to be given that challenge...
On Muzzin - I hear what your saying here and won't argue it too much, because you could be right. I guess my beef with the situation is that Muzzin/Mo weren't really given a whole lot of tiem to prove what they could do together. A handful of games, maybe? And then we're right back to Mo/Hainsey. I just don't get it..
On Marner/AM driving a line - True. But it's not like JT hasn't done that his whole career.. JT doesn't need Mtich to have success, although it doesn't hurt.. And like you mentioned, Willy can drive a line as well
Anyways, I'm not suggesting that this is the answer... but it could be an option with some logic to it.

If Carlyle is fired
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>It's a shame I was not part of that discussion because I would have liked to add in my 2 cents. I don't think it's really a matter of what he does or does not do this season. The Leafs play in a salary capped league and he's just too expensive for what you are getting out of him. At a point per game for the rest of the season, he is only upping his value, which is good news for the Leafs. However, as hard as he only sometimes tries, he does not hustle as much as he should be, doesn't really play defense either. In Kapanen you will have a far less expensive player, faster than Nylander and plays a far better defensive game.</div></div>
Thats is pretty much the same conversation we had. Kappi was dynamite against Pit, and Nylander, I thought he was scratched, didn't even notice him.

Would Flyers be Willing To Bail Them Out
I don't think the Oilers would trade Koskinen for A-Mac, so why are they offering up 2 of their most promising wingers? The Koskinen signing isn't really a mis-step, it's just a high-risk move (and they should've gotten a discounted price for doing it prematurely).

This trade would get the new GM fired on most teams. In Edmonton, they will only allow about 5 more of them.

Non-Parayko Nylander Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>I think you missed my point. But 27 years old on a good contract with term makes Manson appealing, at least to me. Leafs are not making any deals for defenders considering where they sit in the standings. Why mess with what is working at the moment. This would obviously be different if they continuously lost games, but they are playing quite well.</div></div>
I agree. Their current play gives them all the negotiating power in any trade scenario. They look like they don't need Nylander but that doesn't hurt his value or their negotiating power at all. They are 3rd in the league and 1 point out of first. If you want Nylander, you are going to have to pay a premium or he'll either resign or sit. A team like Carolina on the other hand, will be coming to the table from a position of weakness. Yes they have lots of assets but they are so far a disappointment this season and look like they'll be on the outside looking in again. So they have the pressure to make a trade, giving TO even more negotiating power.
In regards to Manson, Anahiem has been decimated by injuries, they won't make any moves until they are healthy.
