Hyman Sign and Trade
Based on the Goodrow rights to NYR for a 7th, I suspect this would be their 2021 4th, but which may still translate to a player like Brett Harrison who would be a steal in my opinion and quite underrated especially because of the playing during Covid issue.

SEA 2021-22
A couple missteps with this expansion draft in my opinion, big missteps BUT it's awful form to bring a guy like Giordano out to a live event and then flip him. Awful form.

Expansion Trades
As I understand it, the Leafs have been trying to deal with the Coyotes something like Dvorak, Garland and Keumper for Kerfoot, Mikheyev and futures, but there's a lot that hinges on Seattle, especially considering Seattle would likely be picking Keumper from Arizona if this deal doesn't happen. If Toronto makes a deal with Seattle after such a trade, it would cost Dermott plus plus and those are so high-level pluses. Also, get Gotisbehere out of here!

Avs future
The Avs are my Western Conference team so I was disappointed to see Ryan Graves go even though he didn't have a great overall season, and specifically, playoffs. Thumbs up on the Ryan Suter signing (though I think he ends up back in Nashville or on the Islanders) and Blake Coleman, but I don't think you are getting Danault for that price seeing as he turned more term and more money from Montreal (apparently) already. If Kadri gets moved, I'd expect him to go somewhere like Arizona in some sort of package that would bring back Dvorak and Garland, in addition to perhaps Kuemper. I also cannot see the Avs giving up so easily on resigning Landeskog. There's only so much money to go around, but I feel/hope they can find some middle ground

This lovely and complicated deal (because of the expansion draft) is brought you by Nick Kypreos.

No that's ridiculous for the Leafs to offer Amirov and a 1st for a player that was essentially out all year with a MAJOR injury.

Even though Bertuzzi, coming back from his injury, is a huge question mark, I still like that deal because I am big of Hronek. I do think Leafs could up both those picks to higher picks. As for as that Calgary trade, yikes! Keep Gaudreau away from this team.

Big fishing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>I think the "all Canadian teams" or "all US teams" is probably proportional to the number of teams in each.
Would be interesting to see if anyone has done meaningful research on it.
The big advantages are TBL, FLA, NSH, DAL...where taxes are low. They are on no one's NTC lists.
I think NJ will snag a couple of the 1-year guys...like Kulikov last year, who played very well for us.
Next year is when I see them going after big names.</div></div>
It is a NHL thing, like fact that every modified NTC includes every single Canadian team. After that it seems like Sabres and Arizona are popular included choices but the Canadian thing seems like it's actual reality. The tax situation though is more complicated than most people consider. Players get taxed per state or province where they play their games, it is just more appealing when your home games are playing more often in a tax-free state and where they reside in the offseason, but it is not as cut and dry as most people consider.

Stanley cup contender
This Habs run reminds me a lot of the 2017 Ottawa Senators. One win away from the Stanley Cup finals that season and every year since they have basically been a top-5 worst team in the NHL. While I hope the Habs don't take that substantial a dip like their Canadian counterpart, I have a tremendously hard time believing that they will make the playoffs in 2021-22 considering how much better the Lightning, Bruins and Panthers all seem to be, and that's even including the playoff-bust Leafs.

Big fishing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Tough example, because I cannot see Landeskog signing anywhere put Colorado.
But I think for many others, it is a fairly attractive place to sign (except for taxes). Maybe middle-of-the-pack...
We are rarely on players' no trade lists, we have pretty well-respected organization, new barn, high quality of life, and a young, exciting team with plenty of growth ahead.
If you are 35 and looking for your first cup, no. But if you are 28 and looking for next 5-6 years, you could do worse.</div></div>
NOT FAIR, all Canadians teams are on no-trade lists :P For a 1-year show-me deal, definitely, I think players go where the money is. 35+ short term deals, sure. I agree to an extent. Tyson Barrie for an example seems like the perfect example of someone willing to take such a deal and it's paid off. Obviously Edmonton playing with McDavid and getting powerplay time is a little different than signing a similar deal with NJ, but I could see Parise for example, doing something like that to up his value for a bigger contract next year. The wildcard in all this is the Kraken though. Expansion drafts make things additionally wacky.

This iteration of the Devils will always have the issue of convincing bigger time UFAs to sign with this team. Perhaps a good draft (Luke Hughes) would change the narrative, but at the moment, I just cannot see a player like Gabriel Landeskog would volunteer to sign with the Devils for term and dollars he could forsure get elsewhere.

Big Name Plus Depth
Landeskog, Foligno AND Cizikas is a pipe dream. I think Leafs would be content with just Barclay Goodrow or Blake Coleman and neither of those are coming in cheap. Also, Leafs should strongly consider trading Reilly and signing Hamilton and Oleksiak. Money will be tight, but without Kerfoot, Dermott, you are getting $5 million savings, plus another $5 million from Rielly.

Offseason Moves - Colorado
Vancouver sarcastically thanks you for that Makar extension - you just screwed them on a direct comp for Quinn Hughes :P
I actually have no problem with that AAV since I'd want max term on that contract and I have no issue on the other moves even though I think the Avs should find a way to keep Ryan Graves. AAV on Grubauer seems $1 million off considering he was just a top-3 nominee for the Vezina but maybe on the Avs UFAs this offseason take a slight "hometown discount" so the band sticks together. I do see the Avs parting with Kadri this offseason.

You could probably land Kaliyev for Romanov and a 2nd, but LA would likely end up with the better return in that deal anyway. While Kaliyev has a mighty fine shot, his skating, but perhaps more importantly, his attitude has been raised as potential red flags for this prospect sticking around full-time in this league.

Wild
That 2-year $7 million AAV Kaprizov bridge deal - YIKES! I am not saying that's too much for the term or anything but I think Bill Guerin is going to find a lot of Wild fans unhappy with him when 2 years comes and goes, the cap doesn't go up and now they gotta pony-up big money to keep Kaprizov, not just on this team, but in this league. I would think you'd be looking to the Rantanen/Marner contracts to at least try to get something longer term done here. As for Hyman, I think he's the type of player that fits the Wild system quite well, but I do think this team could make better use of that $5 million to try and acquire a piece at center rather than having a $5 million 3rd line winger.

Bringing In Marners Friend
Seems like a lot to pay for Strome, who, unfortunately, is no sure thing, not even as a 2C, and there is still a fair chance that the Leafs may not finish in the top-4 of their Northern Division and make the playoffs, which means that 1st rounder would a pretty sweet pickup in another deep yet quite undiscovered draft class (due to covid restrictions). If the Leafs were going to move a pretty good prospect and a 1st, it better be for a significant upgrade and that's not how I would describe Strome at all.

Thank you <a href="/users/palhal" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@palhal</a>, could be with the new divisional structure and playoff format, but I think some major changes are on the for the horizon for this team as I am not even completely sure this team, in it's current form, gets into the top-4 in the North Division with how inconsistent their team defense has been so far (through only 4 games, mind you).

In my opinion, way too good an offer from Avs, especially considering he's only signed for 2 years. I cannot see Blue Jackets saying no to this. Even if it's a very late 1st, Newhook is going to become a stud in this league.

Noah Banks Deadline Moves
Simmonds has NTC protection, so that'd be a hard ask. Then there is the Buffalo situation. I don't think this team is going to suck that much that they are a sure-fire seller at the deadline, which is why I think Taylor Hall is not getting moved this year mid-season. Although, Sabres don't have to retain salary. It would be a pro-rated cap hit based on games remaining to be played so I believe the Leafs would be fine anyways. The price? I am not willing to give up prime futures assets when this team is essentially 6 players on term-contracts and then puzzling together the rest on ELCs on 1-year deals.
