Nylander is TOP30 forward. If Heiskanen continues to improve like he has, he's going to be a TOP5 d-man in the league in a couple of years.
If TOR wants Heiskanen, the offer starts from Marner. Otherwise he isn't moving.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DustyDitch</b></div><div>i'm not saying that Guhle and Thompson are trash, but they are not very good - that package wouldn't come close to landing you Nylander.
and just because Guhle is seen as one of Buffalo's top prospects doesn't make him a top tier prospect in the league. Buffalo's prospect talent pool is extremely thin which should piss the fans off. the team was SO BAD for a decade and they drafted like **** unless the pick fell into their lap (see Eichel and Dahlin).
try again...</div></div>
This is incorrect. Buffalo actually has one of the top prospect pools in the entire league. I guess if you don't count Mittlestadt or Dahlin, then yes, there prospect pool drops to the middle of the pack. Fact of the matter is Pilut, and Guhle are 2 of the top d-man in the AHL, not to mention Olofsson, Nylander, and c.j. Smith are all top winger prospects. Oh and they Sabres also have potentially 3 1st round draft picks in the upcoming draft.
If I'm the Sabres I do not make this trade. Why trade away assets when you don't need to? The sabres are in a great stretch right now, but they need to focus on the players in house first. Sign skinner and continue to develop players rather then rush them like the have in years past. Skinner will get a big deal and in 2 years Dahlin will get a monster deal. Not to mention the Mittlestadt and Reinhart will need deals in the next 2 years. Sabres will need highly skilled guys contributing on ELC deals when they are trying to contend for a cup in the next 2-3 years ala Tampa Bay.
I just don't like the cap crunch the Sabres would likely face if they brought in Billy Nye.

2020 Seattle Expansion Draft - Protected List
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>AHL years count as professional years. So yeah he would need to be protected.</div></div>
Not if he isn't 20 years old yet. Why would Dubas bring him over to the AHL and risk him being exposed in a possible 2021 draft when he could have left him over in sweden for a year and avoided that entirely. AHL seasons played by teenagers do not count as accrued professional experience as defined by the collective bargaining agreement.

He’s not very good but like I said I did like him before so he can still figure it out. Gards has had some of the better advanced stats in the league and has put up points. So trading a real top 4 D and an older prospect or good young (non star) prospect is likely an overpayment. Just facts.</div></div>
Its not facts, you are making things up to justify your own idea. You are the only one who thinks that who have commented in this thread and that's includes Leafs Fans. Its a terrible trade so you can admit you missed on this one.
A non star prospect. What makes you say that? Bc you just want to put on that label on it to justify your idea even though that multiple paid individuals who scout/rank/project prospects have him ranked in the Top 50 prospects not in the NHL right and is considered a better in some or just behind in rankings of Timothy Liljegren.
So in your logic is Liljegren a non star prospect as well?

Improving the blueline at the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MattyMadden28</b></div><div>Well said. And I agree with everything but I’d add one thing. The reason why I would keep the first rounder is simply the leafs need cheap players playing with this Alastair team 3 years of elc is worth a ton on players who pan out. And I believe Dubas will do a very good job with that pick. For the right piece I’d move a first no question but it has to be for a under 27 cheap controlled Well rounder D that adds a different element to this Team. Like a Pesce type. And of course more pieces would be involved.</div></div>
A guy like Pesce would be too expensive, they'd want a first and Liljegren as a start. An under 27 year defence guy with a"different" element, will cost a tonne. Which is why I'd look for a stop gap Guy who can give Liljegren more time.

Improving the blueline at the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MattyMadden28</b></div><div>If he’s not worth Sandin (our late first rounder) why would the leafs trade a first for him lol.</div></div>
Its kind of a weird concept that I have put some thought into, but a 1st round pick is an unknown, there is no face to it. Its like changing bitcoin into cash. Sure bitcoin has all sorts of potential value, but we still don't know what it will be. But once you cash in that pick (bitcoin) you now have a tangible asset that you can see, put a face too and start building an emotional connection too.
The other part to it, is that Sandin was picked last summer and really impressed in the preseason. I'd say he was one of the better defenceman overall in the preseason for Toronto and I'm including the vets.
So why is Sandin worth more than a late round pick? In this case its because he looks like a steal, and he is a year closer to being a contributor than someone they'd draft this summer.
If I am looking at the Leafs from a cap perspective over the next 8 years (the length of the big three contract extensions I hope) then Sandin is someone I see as a potential long term replacement for Gardiner. Perhaps not next season but in the near future for sure. He's closer to making the NHL than whoever they pick this summer. So that makes him more valuable than next years late round pick.
It really does seem funny, but it makes sense.

Getting Nico/Nolan
1.) I love Morgan Reilly, I really think that he would be able to mesh well with any defenseman on the Flyers, however, I am opposed to trading young defensemen for established young players.
2.) Phil Myers might be the second best defensemen within the Flyers system (behind Ivan). Sanheim is arguably the 3rd in offense, but behind Sam Morin in defensive skill.
3.) JVR was a skilled player, but with no terms really left on his contact, and the Flyers not a contending team with his addition, I don't see the point in adding him.
4.) Trading he 2nd overall out of the lottery for a AMAC dump and prospect trading for an established young defenseman isn't the plan of GM Ron Hextall
His theory is that you wait as long as you can with the prospects, cashing in the chips when they are on your team, rather than cashing out early when you could have ended up with more money, had they stayed with your team for three more years.

Getting Nico/Nolan
For me, this trade is dependant on how quickly and effectively Myers and Sanheim can be in a top-4 role this upcoming season. If they are both ready, I would say the Leafs make this trade, no matter how much they value Morgan Reilly. I would, however, probably prefer to see Jake Gardiner leave than Morgan Reilly and since Gardiner had such a good year this past season it would make sense to sell high on him. I am sure the Leafs would be absolutely thrilled selecting either Nico or Nolan, as part of their plan to continue developing as this core grows. Even if Andrew MacDonald is used in the NHL (as opposed to sending him to the AHL and eating most of his contract), I think the Leafs could get a better (and more defensive) defenseman in a deal for someone other then Mike Green. I'd like to see the Leafs go after Calvin de Haan.

Canes say yes and thank you if they can sign JVR.
Your question is interesting - but only because I don't see a need for an enforcer. Personally, I think Lam was an idiot for signing Martin in the first place. Leafs don't need an enforcer IMO however if you want a big body who will drop the gloves target Reaves on the blues - the guy is a beastly man.

Wow, what a sports executive says in public has so much meaning. Why do you continue to believe these things?
I don't hold out a lot of trading value in Leipsic, Rychel and Leivo. But the still the deal trades one RHD Carrick for another. Wouldn't the Leafs be better off keeping the younger Carrick and spending the difference in money 3.8m on another player? Maybe a UFA Dman or acquiring a Dman from a team with cap problems.
Matty: What is with Leaf fans fascinating in give Vegas a draft pick? Who on the Leafs is so valuable that they don't want Vegas to select?
Gagner...that's a waste of 4m, he had half a good season last year. Borgman and Rosen on the Leafs to start the season?

I very much like your Leafs-Islanders trade, but it's definitely a little one-sided (for Toronto). Perhaps add Jeremy Bracco, as well? I actually think the Leafs would be more likely to get away with that deal if they took Calvin de Haan instead of Pulock, only because of de Haan's salary. Either way, I am assuming in this scenario, Barzal would be in the opening night line-up, maybe as a left winger on Bozak's line? He's definitely ready to step in to the NHL this upcoming season.
As much as I am sure the Leafs could use Marcus Kruger's faceoff ability, I doubt Chicago would take on dead weight in Eric Fehr, even if that saved them a $1 million.

I'd be very interested in trying to get a trade with the Islanders revolving around JVR and Pulock/Barzal. I think the pick we send to them should be conditional.. 2018 2nd-rounder becoming a 1st-rounder if JVR chooses not to sign. Leo is also an expiring contract, so maybe if we substituted Komarov for Leipsic. Just an idea. Overall, not bad.

Matty, interesting take! The Brown/Hyman numbers look low based on term! If looking at 2 year bridge deals, they look about right on! Valimaki, an interesting choice, but doubtful he can make the jump next year! Calle Rosen looks to be ready to sign and would probably immediately become our #1 defense prospect and first one called up!

Don't think Marlies are untouchable... but Matthews, Marner, Nylander are to me... I think its obvious JVR is the one to go, unless they want a package of picks and prospects.
Who fits the bill?
Parayko - Untouchable
Severson - NJ Probably asks for too much
Tanev - I think is too old (for what we will have to pay)
Trouba - rumors he wants to play in US, but still seems like an option
Vatanen - too offensively minded
Manson - probably the best/most affordable option
Ellis - smaller, but still gritty and Defensively sound... Him or Ekholm will probably go due to expansion
Dumba - Another option, not as defensively proven as others
Hamonic - Oldish, but could be possible (snow seems to want to keep him)
