Offseason Oil Change
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyIsMyPassion61</b></div><div>Blues aren't retaining on Parayko, And that's a pretty pathetic offer for a top pairing RD.</div></div>
He’s undoubtedly a good top 4 Dman but he’s not a top pair guy. On the oilers yea but statistically over all no chance. 2 years ago his WAR was 50% while playing 2nd pair minutes. He’s currently on pace for his 2nd worse season. He’s never broken 35 points. He’s good at hitting and blocking shots but top but barely top 50 and 30 for defenders in either category. Now with lingering back issues as a concern I feel as though the trade proposal above is probably an overpay.

Offseason Oil Change
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Miguelicious</b></div><div>Just because he slots into the top pair doesnt necessarily mean he is top pair material. Case in point: Cody Ceci.
Ceci is by no means a top pairing guy. He's playing there because:
A. Bouchard is better served playing with Ekholm
B. Ceci provides 'Decent' minutes compared to the alternative (rookie Desharnais).
C. A better fit defensively than the recently-departed Barrie
Parayko, while being undoubtedly better than Ceci, has struggled as of late and is viewed more as a Top 4 guy, than a bonafide Top Pairing guy. He would play on the Oilers top pair though, for the same reasons above.</div></div>
He also has a bad back and a long contract - you sure you want to go down that road? Back issues don't just go away.

Why would Edmonton do that? Barrie has been their best defenseman for much of the season. He leads the team in GF% - and has since Woodcroft & Manson took over last February, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. He's on pace to score 50 points again this season and the Oilers have their sights set on going deep again this year, they aren't trading him for a middling prospect and some picks!

LOL, suuure. His 5v5 stats show that clearly:
21-22 with Savard ON: 40 GF - 63 GA (38.83 GF%)
21-22 with Savard OFF: 114 GF - 132 GA (46.35 GF%)
22-23 with Savard ON: 6 GF - 10 GA (37.50 GF%)
22-23 with Savard OFF: 14 GF - 7 GA (66.67 GF%)

I heard rumors that AZ asked for Broberg and Holland declined, same situation with Ottawa and Pinto, which makes me think that's why AZ has lowered their ask, 1 roster player, two B prospects, (or 1 A prospect) and a 1st, might need a 2nd in there

Just going to break down that Oiler trade...
Demko+Schenn is worth MAYBE 2 first rnd picks(& only because they would be late in the first rnd) + Bourgault(or other A prospect)
The Oilers will NOT have to pay to trade Barrie.
Trading Kassian will NOT cost Bouchard, maybe a B prospect, mid round pick OR salary retention.
Oilers reject this trade without a minute of consideration.
IF Demko were available I doubt Edmonton would be considered being they are in the same division.

Buyout Nation
Smith isn't getting bought out weeks after taking the Oilers to the Conference Finals for the first time in 16 years. That's really dumb.
And the Kraken trade is a loss for Edmonton, they aren't doing that. Keith has more value than Soucy and Barrie has more than Driedger, so Edmonton isn't adding a 1st.

I think management has been completely transparent with McDavid and the leadership group (Drai, Nurse, RNH) about the team's direction. From our local guys here we hear tidbits about how they were consulted before Holland's moves like Kane, Hyman, Keith etc. They apparently gave approval before any moves were made.
There's a lot more good than bad in store for the Oilers and I think the core, being privy to more information, should be even more excited for it. Truly, the only negatives about Edmonton are location and weather. We've got a rabid fanbase, an owner with deep pockets, a stable of good prospects, and a good community to raise a young family in. Especially with more and more of our players starting to have kids, not such a bad deal.
As for this playoffs, I think it all balances out: LA overachieved while Edmonton played subpar hockey until their backs were against the wall. Then, Edmonton overachieved on the backs of our stars while Calgary just couldn't cut it. It was a much closer series than the score/series suggests and they certainly did not play 'bad' aside from Markstrom. As for Colorado, long as the Oilers stick to their strengths and not let the other team dictate pace, they should be competitive :)</div></div>
The weather in Edmonton is perfect. IDK why hockey players want to play in places it will never snow, just doesn't make sense. ODR season here in Edmonton is usually like 5 months long, its awesome.
I had a feeling that LA would give Edmonton a run for their money, they have a lot of playoff experienced players who stepped up in that series. Calgary was a mess. They were the most consistent team in the regular season and were lockdown on D while putting up lots of offense. In the playoffs they only locked down on D against Dallas. Against Edmonton they were nearly Swiss cheese and Markstrom was abominable. That could have been a much better series had the Calgary of the regular season shown up. We will see about Colorado. I expect Edmonton to take at least 2 games.

Gotta Keep Kaner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Miguelicious</b></div><div>I think the fanbase is fine as is. We're more than back on track with a presumable 3rd round berth.
Fixing all those issues you pointed out requires a TON of movement, a lot of traded picks & prospects -OR- simply wait a year.
There really arent any 'Markstrom'-level goalies to bet big on, best you get is Campbell (most likely re-upping in TOR) or Kuemper (meh).
There also isnt a prospect in the system capable of bringing same tier performance (even in the long run) to an Evander Kane: proven chemistry, speed, hands, physicality, size..
Holloway, Bourgeault both great in their own right; Savoie, Lavoie, and company can maybe bring a few, but not all facets of Kane's game.
If the Oilers are serious about long-term success, I believe one more year of patience is needed so we don't handcuff ourselves yet again to overpaid FAs, a bare cupboard, no picks..
I mean, why risk the long term if all we're asking for is 1 more year? Let the Chia-mistakes die out, reload, go for gold.</div></div>
That also works but it's banking on the patience of your star players to be willing to wait another year before they are considered cup contenders. There's no fooling that the Oilers barely got by LA in round 1. They basically breezed by Calgary but we all know that series should have been a lot closer if Calgary was playing even semi-decently. Colorado will be another high-offense series, and I will be happy to eat crow if the Oilers manage to beat them. Time will tell, I'm just happy to watch Mac vs Mc and Kadri v Kane. Will be an exciting series

You could match as long as it doesn't send you over the off-season cap buffer. Then trade him or whoever else to become complaint before the season starts. Not ideal, but possible.
ETA: No, it appears, you cannot trade him after. Interesting wrinkle.

You are extremely off the track if you think Broberg is even mentioned in the conversion for Dumoulin. He’s a high pick who’s been developed properly and just at the start of his career.

EDM needs to add, and they need to add a lot... I don't think they can take on any of NYI's bad contracts though, or have any relevant swaps that could break their lineup. Maybe adding Kekkoek for cheap LD help and several picks could move the needle?
Regardless, who knows if Sorrow-kin is ready for a full season by himself yet. I don't know that NYI does this trade, at least not with EDM. If anything this happens at the deadline, so NYI gets ~60 games with a solid tandem. EDM should still be in the playoff race then.
Another layer is Varly's NTC...

Oilers definitely add a decent amount, Varlamov was activated off IR 2 days ago so we don't know who is the Isles starter and they'll probably go with a 1a, 1b system
