Isles would need a real center or center prospect back in a Pageau trade. Maybe Garland and Raty for Pageau? Lol.

That’s fair, but I like Gauthier as a bottom six winger and I’m a fan of Holmstrom too. Holmstrom shows flashes of higher end skill, but it’s a consistency issue rn.

Tbh I’m less worried about the isles than most. Just like I was last season when they lost Barzal, Pelech and Wahlstrom to injury and still made it.

Agreed. Also the isles are pretty attached to Cizikas and probably wouldn’t want to trade him anyway.

The scoring help should come in the form of a fully healthy Barzal/Horvat duo. Also despite the fact that some young teams in the Atlantic have improved, the isles should feel confident in their relatively young d core + their elite goaltending. If they need to add scoring help, then they will be in position to add it at the deadline.

The Canucks shouldn’t feel pressured to dump Garland due to cap constraints. They would be much better off trading Beau for a 3C with term like Dvorak and seeing what the team looks like with three quality centers.

Wahlstrom isn't putting up 40 next year. The value for the Leafs in this deal isn't the two prospects or picks but cap space. The value for the Islanders is getting playoff revenue and making Barzal and Horvat better players by bringing in an elite winger.</div></div>
The isles made the playoffs despite major injuries to two members of their core in Barzal and Pelech. They also lost Wahlstrom to a season ending injury and only got Palmieri back in the second half. I’m not sure how this team takes a step back with all those guys having a full summer to recover. That’s not even accounting for Dobson and Romanov’s continued development coupled with a full year of Horvat + Engvall. Isles aren’t going to be in the lottery unless they have severe injury issues again.

If you really believed this deal favored NY then you wouldn’t have proposed it. Toronto is in cap hell and even if they weren’t Nylander would be lucky to fetch a return greater than Wahlstrom and a first based on his age and contract status.

Dubois’s value is based on the fact he is a 1st line caliber center and DeBrincat was just traded for pennies on the dollar. Both players were RFA’s in all three aforementioned trades, and they r both younger than Nylander. Now I’m not saying Nylander isn’t better than either player, but no matter how you look at this it’s a gross overpayment for the NYI.

Nylander is not worth two first round picks, a prospect selected 11th overall and an additional quality prospect also selected in the 2nd round.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DH28Hockey</b></div><div>Yeah pretty much the reason why. I look at this as Philly giving the Islanders a hugely needed boost up front while helping them clear a little bit of cap space and adding an additional asset they can use to help them later down the road. From Philly's perspective, they just hope that the Islanders are comfortable enough with the rest of their defense and Sorokin to move on from a player that can be a foundational piece on their defense for years to come</div></div>
There is no good reason for the isles to trade Dobson.

Pulock still has a NTC, and the isles still aren’t asking him to waive it. Also the team trading a top pair righty d man is never the one adding to the deal. Especially not for a winger, no matter how much I like his game.

No one worth playing for can give Nylander 10 million dollars a year. He only wants that much because Toronto overpaid all their star players on five year contracts. You can’t give out that kind of AAV without way more term.

I really like Hanifin as a player and he’s really shown why he was the first defenseman selected in the 2015 draft during his time in Calgary. However, this is not only an egregious overpayment but makes no sense from a fit standpoint. The isles number one need is adding elite talent to their forward core. Hanifin doesn’t fill a significant need and extending him would result in the isles defense being made up of guys in their early to mid thirties for the next decade.

If that’s really the case then Laviolette should tell him that he can pick his linemate when he starts producing in the post season. They seem like a perfect fit on paper tbh.
