Mtl trading up to 2
I think the only way the Ducks would actually trade down from 2 is if their guy is Michov and they know that he will be there at 5. Otherwise I think there is too big a drop to 5 for them to consider it.

Boston getting the cap space for McAvoy
Boston are stuck, and they need to pay to get out. They need $4M more cap space to bring McAvoy back into the lineup. They waived both these guys and had no takers, so they'll need to pay. So I think this is a trade that they would rather not make, but they need to do something, and it will be uncomfortable.

3 way trade
I get it, you don't want to move Foligno. I was saying that Lazar offers more than Rask and Yamamoto is better than Foligno. Both Yamamoto and Lazar are cheaper than Rask & Foligno as well. Koskinen has 50% retained by Edmonton in this deal and would very moveable if they wanted to flip him elsewhere for a pick.
As you don't want to move Foligno this trade is no for you, but I think it would be a win for the Wild.

Thread:
3 way trade
I was looking at ways that Minnesota could clear some cap, they could flip Koskinen as well for something if not his contract is up and they don't need to bring him back. I think that Yamamoto and Lazar are an improvement on the ice from Rask & Foligno. If Foligno isn't moveable then it doesn't work. I am not sure what the way forward is for the Wild. Yesterday I tried to have them load up for a run this year and nobody liked, because I gave away too much (admittedly I was thinking more about the return that Vancouver would want), so today I tried to improve the team on the ice and clear out future cap space. (I think Yamamoto could be resigned for less that Foligno was signed for). I am not trying to troll Wild fans, I am trying to figure out what they can do to get better now and in the future.

Minnesota gets a little younger and cheaper with extra goalie cover for the playoffs. Boston gets bigger and adds a couple brothers for their playoff run. Edmonton gets rid of Koskinen and adds DeBrusk, both of which they seem itching to do.

Q Hughes to NJ
My thinking for this, is that Q. Hughes would sign a $9M - $9.5M / 5 years with NJ as an offer sheet. If Vancouver matched they would have $1M in cap space to sign E. Pettersson, if they don't match they get 2 1sts (22 & 23) and a 2nd + 3rd (both 22), I think that Benning would prefer Bahl to a 2nd & 3rd.

So that being said by taking on that contract you are not lowering the asking price. Then the value of the trade doesn't equal the asking price of the equivalent of 4 firsts. I would imagine Ottawa would also have to over pay considering they are in the same division. Don't see the Sabres taking this offer.
Why is Minnesota in the deal?</div></div>
Good point, I wasn't thinking about the floor. That said I am sure NJ would be willing to send them PK to help them reach it. Or Koskinen from the Oilers.

I thought they got removed, I tried to have them as a place Ottawa could flip Okposo, but it wouldn't let me have both teams retain part of Okposo's salary. I went with Minny because Okposo is from St. Paul.

I think that the Sens would then look to flip Okposo with more salary retained to a 3rd team to try to recoup some 2022 draft capital.

10 player trade with Ottawa amp Edmonton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PLDGEY</b></div><div>This is a super laughably bad trade offer.
EDM offers 3 cap dumps (Kosk/Turris/Kassian), an old depth D, a prospect who wont crack the roster and two future 2nds.
What EDM offered as value-positive doesnt even pay for the cap dump. This offer doesnt get accepted for Future considerations from OTT, let alone asking for Brannstrom.
Dadonov can be traded for a pick, tierney can be traded for a pick.
OTT is literally losing the 3 most valuable pieces involved in this trade.</div></div>
I think the Branstrom is the only valuable piece in the trade. Dadonov could be moved for a pick sure, but Tierney & Murray are pure cap relief, Same with Turris and Koskinen. Kassian is still valued by some and has a lower hit than Dadonov which covers the pick. So Tierney at 3.5 & Murray at 6.2 for Koskinen 4.5 and Turris 1.6 is a win for Ottawa with less money and term. So then it is Mete & Branstrom for Russell and Lagesson and 2 seconds. I think that Ottawa values what Russell and Kassian would bring.
So while I recognise this isn't a trade that I would make it I were the Sens, and it doesn't sound like you would either. I don't see how it is laughable when the Sens are clearing a lot of money and term, picking up 2 2nds and given how little they used Branstrom and Mete not likely to be much worse off.

If he would sign a $6.5M x 8 deal I'd do it today, but I suspect he'll get over $7M. I really don't see him going over $8M though - and if he's asking for Seth Jones money you trade him at the deadline.</div></div>
Well we certainly agree on trading him when he asks for Seth Jones money (which he certainly will), though I think Holland gives it to him rather than trades him.

They seem to be giving up on him a bit, I thought the 2nds and the 4M in savings made up for the Oilers getting him. I am not sure that Dorion would be willing to move him in a deal like this though, but was trying to find a way for the Sens to get bigger (which they seem to want to do) and shed money (which they seem to want to do).

I think that some GM will give Nurse more than 6M, but he isn't worth it, which is why I would trade him. I don't see how it would be out of touch to be aware of the value your players actually bring and how to ensure that you get value with contracts. I would argue that the person that is out of touch is Ken Holland.

If I were GM and Nurse is looking for anything above $6M I would start trying to trade him. I have zero faith in Holland and can easily see Nurse being the 2nd highest paid Oiler.

Nurse Trade
My thinking behind this trade, was looking at what Philly paid for Risto, and knowing that Hockeymen love Nurse and what Risto, Jones, etc were commanding. As everyone has pointed out that this trade would be a clear win for the Oilers, I also think that if Philly called Holland with this deal, he wouldn't take it either because he wants to give Nurse Seth Jones money.

Paying the price to fix the mess
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>If my above conditions are true, Seattle's going to be forced into taking either Archibald or Kassian. It's much harder to plan around taking a guy set to expire in UFA, and despite your apparent bias, Kassian is still a decent third-line forward. You're pissing away value to dump Kassian without actually improving the team now. He's not a piece where Edmonton gets better through addition via subtraction.</div></div>
In my view Kassian is a border line 4th line player / AHL player. Given that he is vastly overpaid, the team could make better use of the money by signing some UFAs right now that would provide more value than Kassian provides. Even if your valuation of Kassian is correct there is no way Seattle takes on a contract like that without being paid to do it. If there are teams that value Kassian as a 3rd liner we need to find them and trade him there now. We know that Tipp doesn't that is why Kassian was a healthy scratch. He has got to be moved.

Paying the price to fix the mess
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Russell isn't being moved, as per Friedman's most recent 31 Thoughts, and Edmonton shouldn't pay any price to move Kassian when Seattle's likely to do it for free* next year.
*Assuming Klefbom retires and the Oilers use their buyout on Neal next offseason</div></div>
I was trying to create the space needed to improve the team now, and I can not fathom Seattle taking on Kassian without Edmonton giving them a 1st for their trouble. I picked Nashville for this because they were talking about adding more grit saying that going all skill didn't work for them, Kassian definitely fits the grit not skill category.
