Gotta agree with the consensus. Should definitely get that top 4 LHD. However.....
I Will take a different angle. I have to admit that trading strome to rid ourselves of A LOT of cap is nice. Strome isn’t a player for the future of hawks. He just isn’t. I didn’t like him when we got him and i really don’t like the intangibles he brings (or doesn’t). He isn’t fast, he’s bad defensively, and he is not a playoff performer. However, what he can do in the regular season with scoring can definitely benefit another team (Wild????). But honestly, I don’t hate the idea for the sake of cap.

Yeah, why trade Keith for Matheson? Keith has 4 more years and surely Beaudin, Vlassic and Carlsson all will be in play at that point.
We don't need Mete, keep Maatta and just move Caggs for a 4th.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stan_Bowman</b></div><div>If you have Nylander in DeBrincats place they could still run three scoring lines. Just not paying 6.4 for a third line winger (who really should be playing with Kane for maximum efficiency)
You could also trade DeBrincat for a core piece, not worry about his 10 million QO at the end of his contract, and have even more space for future contracts.</div></div>
There's certainly nuance to this. His $10M QO doesn't mean he's guaranteed $10M. There isn't any threat of an offersheet. They'd negotiate a deal and if not. I know Capfriendly doesn't have him arbitration eligible yet, but I think that's because he hasn't yet qualified...but soon will and certainly before this deal is up, BUT just let him go to arbitration. If arbitration rules that the QO can't waiver......Then I guess he's a UFA, but I don't think Nylander can hold Debrincat's jock strap when it comes to contributions on the ice. I don't dislike Nylander like I did at the beginning of the season, but even when Debrincat isn't on the score sheet he contributes on many other ways.
I'm listening when it comes to a different core piece. It all depends on what that other core piece is. Debrincat has scored 41 goals in a season. That's not a small feat by any stretch.

HAWKS REAL TALK

Depending on what they could get in return and the cap situation, it could be a good idea.</div></div>
I'm on board. Debrincat has turned into a $6.4M 3rd liner / second powerplay and 18 goals just doesn't cut it for a guy that's paid to score goals.

HAWKS REAL TALK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Petrock83</b></div><div>I'm not Strome's biggest fan, but I think he can be kept without breaking the bank by making a couple changes to this.
1. Don't re-sign Caggiula. It hurts to say it, but with Shaw coming back, he is a bit priced out of town.
2. Sign Crow for less. I think if we give him 2 years, he would take a slight discount for the security, say $4M.
3. Sign Kubalik for less. If you're using DeBrincat's contract as a baseline, keep in mind he was coming off of two good years, scoring at a .93 P/GP pace the year before his extension. Kubalik has just one good season, is older, and scored .68 P/GP, albeit with fewer minutes. If he keeps up this playoff performance, my guess is he gets in the vicinity of $4.5-5M for 2 years.
4. Ideally, we are able to trade Maatta rather than buy him out, which could say a small amount of cap space. If we have to take salary back, though, Stan probably just buys him out.

If Crow costs $5M let him walk. $3.5M to $4M for 2 years is what he is worth IMO.
Agree, Caggs is expendable with Shaw coming back.
Kubalik is NOWHERE near worth $6M on a 3 year bridge....maybe long term $6M for 5 or 6 years. He has one season, an amazing one, but only 1 season. No player after playing 1 year has made $6M the following year. We should sign him very short term 1 year to keep his RFA rights or sign him long term.
Strome we should bring back on a 1 to 3 year deal for $3.5M (1 year) to $4M (3 year). I think if the Hawks draft lundell in this draft, which may be a possibility at #10, then Strome is gone in a year or two. Otherwise, Strome is around.

Realistic Look at Next Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Petrock83</b></div><div>We have the cap space if we buyout or trade Maatta and Smith. Kubalik may be good at other things, but his main role on the team is sniper. In my proposal I suggested moving Shaw to the 4th line, not Nylander. I've thought about it some more though, and here's the lines I would run:
Saad - Toews - Kubalik
Suter - Dach - Kane
DeBrincat - Strome - Nylander
Kurashev/Highmore - Kampf - Shaw/Carpenter</div></div>
That second line worries me defensivly. Shaw would be a really good linemate for debrincat and strome. So its eigher nylander on the 4th or we trade saad. We could run
Kubalik-Toews-Nylander
Suter-Dach-Kane
Debrincat-Strome-Shaw
Kurashev-Kampf-Carpenter

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Petrock83</b></div><div>I'm not saying you're delusional, but you're definitely overvaluing Urho. In basically all the midseason prospect rankings I looked at, he didn't crack the top 100 (best I saw was 99). I know those are subjective and very often wrong, and I do think Urho could become a top 4 dman, but Saad 1000% has more value as a proven top 6 forward. With the 1st that will probably end up being around #28-31, the value seems fair to me, maybe a bit skewed to CHI but not by much.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mark_Kelley</b></div><div>Idk I'm looking at some AGM for 2020-21 bruins and Urho doesn't even make the team, but your getting a great foward in Saad that can put up 50 points and you could resign him for less then his actual contract now.</div></div>
First off, I appreciate both of your reasonings and kindness. I havent seen enough of that here and its led me to be much more harsh than I had to be so i am sorry for that.
In saying that, Urho is a top 4 defensive prospect and those ranking do usually stink. Just last year, the bruins had "the 5th worth future", then people started pointing out that between Pasta, Mcavoy, Carlo, Griz, Coyle, Urho, Stud, Ritchie, Kase, Debrusk, the three goalie prospefcts, etc... the bruins are perfectly fine for the future.
In saying THAT: me saying Urho alone is worth more than Saad may be false, but urho and a 1st is certainly a huge overpayment. Mind you Saad still has a 6 million dollar cap which is huge. And the bruins are doing fine without 2RW. Now if they can get a 2RW for say Zboril, Kuhlman, and a 2nd, they will (and its certainly doable at that price for the other team).
Bruins do reject that offer. But with some adjustments, it could be done

I'd say the top 4 is pretty solid. Out of the right column Bergeron, Eichel, Stamkos, Matthews, Tavares, Barkov stand out for me.
My Top 10 would probably be:
1. McDavid
2. Crosby
3. Draisaitl
4. MacKinnon
5. Matthews
6. Barkov
7. Eichel
8. Tavares
9. Stamkos
10. Bergeron
But I could be convinced to put a couple others instead.
