What a dumb comparison in a trade for a D man.. Reinhart would be leading the Lightning in goals so they have to give Buffalo Hedman, it only makes sense right?

Flames would need to add a piece in both those trades. More to the Gaudreau deal than Monahan but both are too low. Phillips should never play C in the NHL and Gio should go to Seattle.
It's a better roster but tough to get to.

An Eichel Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chapee44</b></div><div>I would agree but Tanev is one of the top 2 D on Calgary. I would be fine with a top pair D. Reinhart absolutely does cut it. The people that say he doesn't are off their rockers. 16 games at C this season he has 10 goals and 15 points. He's also played well defensively. Lastly, you only have to pay him that much if it goes to qualification. He can sign for anything at anytime after July 27th this year when the next "season" starts.</div></div>
To the point of signing Tkachuk, if he has a shot at 9 million next year I think it would be tough to convince him to sign for less but I get your point. That's awesome about Reinhart, I have always liked him as a player and a guy I would be over the moon to see on the Flames.

I think there would be a younger D man in that trade than Tanev, probably one of Andersson or VAlimaki. Second part is that Buffalo does not get a C in return, from what I have read Reinhart just doesn't cut it. Third you would have to pay Tkachuk 9 million a year because of his qualifying offer.

Small point cause you got a lot going on in the comments here, Tkachuk's deal will be at least 9 million because that is what he will be earing in the final year of his contract.

Tkachuk needs to be paid 9 million or more.
Valimaki would be crazy to sign that, he will be a bridge guy
Derek Ryan should retire twice by then, maybe bring him back next season but after that you're just clogging up the system
Giordano should be long gone by then

Monahan
I don't disagree that it's fairly close with the contract giving the edge to Tuch likely. The big reason I tried to include Smith in the earlier deal is that this goes the opposite direction in terms of helping VEgas with their cap situation. I could potentially see Calgary retaining on Monahan with it only being 2 years left on the deal.

Yeah fair enough, my though process there was if Calgary was to send Monahan for Smith or Marchassault then it really doesn't help Vegas get into a spot to re sign Martinez or Nosek, Tuch is obviously one of the best trade pieces that Vegas has with that deal but I see what you mean by one or the other.

That's kind of what I figured when thumbing through their ACGM posts, it would really deplete the right side of their forward group, I would say Calgary could add a piece to fill it instead of Kylington and a second but we all know darn well the right side has nothing special in Calgary. Maybe a Dube fits the bill?

Trying someone elses trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gmonwy</b></div><div>Okay would a 1 for 1 be fair? Who would have to add if not? Who could replace Barrie?</div></div>
Tanev's value is likely a 2nd or a high 3rd, if the Flyers were to throw Bobby Brink and a 3rd I think value wise you're very close. In the minds of Flames fans (mine included) and likely the organization Tanev is worth a low end 1st because of how he played this year but I don't see a team paying that because of the future risk of a stay at home d man that blocks a hundred shots a year.
I just don't think there is a strong enough RD UFA class to justify moving Tanev, Barrie is the anti-Tanev and almost 60% of his points are secondary assists, he can chip a puck out from behind his net and McDdavid Draisaitl do the rest, I think unless he's back in Edmonton then expect his production to drop significantly. If he does stay in Edmonton I think that opens up the only 2RD option this year which would be Larsson, who I think unanimously people would keep Tanev over Larsson.
Unless they make a separate move for an RFA like Pionk, Jokiharju, Hronek it will be a very tough hole for the Flames to fill. Filling in a 3RD though, much easier, Hamonic, Gudbransson, Demers, Bogosian etc.

Trying someone elses trade
As I said in the original post, the value is a huge overpay which I think it would take to get Tanev out of Calgary, they could likely drop the first round pick and it would still favour Calgary significantly. That being said this move helps the future way too much for what this organization has done historically, they will want to remain competitive and likely remain mediocre.
One thing about moving Tanev that would be tough is I think he is the best partner for Valimaki next year, look at the development Hanifin had this season and hope he can do the same for Valimaki.
Also whoever signs Barrie will be very disappointed.

I absolutely love Tanev but the Flames aren’t passing on that deal if it was on the table. I think you’re giving up too much here for sure, as much as I hate to say it if you took out the first you’d be much closer, but it’s just a piece Calgary won’t move, he did so much for Hanifin this year to the extent Calgary should expose their captain in expansion.

Cause he was going to continue to ask questions and you were going to continue you have half witted unfunny answers.. What do you get out of just randomly deciding that guy needed to be made fun of cause of his post? No one found what you were doing funny, no one found it ironic or interesting, instead of telling the guy that his post was inaccurate you went for the lowest common denominator which is really starting to make sense the more you reply.

I like Nugent Hopkins as a target, I don't know if I want to see him paid that much for that long. He's 34 at the end of that deal and not built like a guy who will produce long into his 30's. I'd pay him that amount for shorter term but I don't know if he takes that.

If Seattle takes Backlund instead of Giordano in the expansion draft
I just don't think there is a scenario where Backlund is exposed, he is the picture perfect story for a franchise, struggled out of the gate but the team stuck with him and he's become a key part of the core, good story for any prospect that wants a team to buy into him.
That coupled with the fact he has made every guy he plays with more defensively responsible, he's perfect to play with the Pelletier, Zary, Phillips, Ruzicka.
Players exposed for the Flames will hopefully be
Lucic
Ritchie
Giordano
Kylingotn
Parsons

Gaudreau and Monahan gonna both be gone in 2 years, leaving you with weak top 6. Giordano will retire and who will fill the leadership and defensive void? I think Calgary should be looking to rebuild, insofar as trading Gaudreau and Monahan before they walk and hopefully acquiring some talent up front</div></div>
Giordano hopefully goes to Seattle, filled by Hanifin and Valimaki in the left side, simple fix. Tanev leads that group Hanifin grows into it, back end is fine.
There has been talk about signing Gaudreau long term cause his M-NTC clause kicks in this summer, Monahan isn’t even playing top six minutes right now so both those situations you’ve presented are inaccurate. Top six will still be Lindholm, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Backlund, Dube UFA or draft pieces
Sutter said he’s not going to coach a rebuild and Treliving will be working for a new contract, rebuilding doesn’t get you that. What we have established is what you think and what has been said around the Flames organization, I can’t see a reason to entertain the former in any way
