Kakko
Buchnevich

Why break that up?
If they can hold tight for one more year the cap is wiiiiiiide open. It would be a mistake to ship off one of their best all around forwards in a cap panic move. And especially to keep someone like Strome that will have difficulty succeeding away from Panarin...

Staal's cap hit is at least a 2nd. No way they trade Brodin for a mid-1st; top 6 center or no deal. They'll extend him before they let him go cheaply.

2. Buch on pace for 55 pts this past season. If he does that again, looking at what CK got he may ask in the $6M range and not accept 4 years.</div></div>
1). I’d love Igor at 7.5 mil for 8 years.
2) Buch at 6 by 6 also works with this team

If NYR offer sheet Cirelli, it probably would be a 1+3... Carolina 1, and Buch was a 3. Now he is a legit top 6 RW. In all honesty, I don’t know if I’d do that if I’m the NYR. Very gutsy to throw JP on 2nd line after he’s done 0 in NHL.</div></div>
Fair enough-totally agree with you on JP, but Cirelli is the type of player the Rangers could really use and I could maybe see Kreider moving to the right wing to even things out a bit

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't NYR a bit thin in their C department when it comes to prospects as well? I can't really think any C prospect in Rangers prospect pool with TOP6 potential...Zibanejad would be a bit alone there.
That being said, you have lots of RHDs, most likely all being there long-term...

I suppose. I personally can't see him getting that with his offensive production. It isn't exactly barn burning. I'd rather overpay a little with assets to trade for him then overpay with cap space to offersheet him. It really doesn't do Tampa anything different because they are essentially getting the same return...

One More Rebuild Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Philu916</b></div><div>No...
I’m sorry but you don’t sign Panarin to $11.6 M per year, have the 2 pick and take who is supposed to be elite, following year have the 1 pick who is supplied to be elite to generational, have Zibby on a cheap contract still to still rebuild. It wastes Panarin contract, and it wastes Zibby cheap contract. The time is to win now. NYR don’t have many holes. They have a top 4 LHD hole and a 2/3C hole due to the fact that nobody is certain if Chytil will be used as a C or a winger. As far as Georgiev goes, he won’t sign that cheap of a deal, the cheapest you’d get him is 2 years for 2.25M, if 3 years it’ll be closer to 2.75M. Also feel like if anybody, Fox would be the dman to move to the left side of TDA is extended.</div></div>
ok - glad you have an opinion. however, they are still in a rebuild with Hank, Staal and Smith on the roster and Shatty's $6M buyout - that is over $20M in dead(worthless) cap.
timing is everything, and next year they will compete, but not very dissimilar from this past season - maybe a playoff push in March but that is it. teams that rush rebuilds fail.
how many franchises can say they completed a rebuild in just about 3 season? not many...
also, JD already confirmed that they are staying the course, feel free to go watch the interview, it's on the Ranger's twitter.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Philu916</b></div><div>Rangers fan here clearly...
can Rangers afford to pay TDA long term? Fox will be up for a huge extension. Giving Trouba $8M, ADA $5-$6M, trading for Dunn and paying him $5+M... Fox will get $5-$6M soon. Thankfully he’s on ELC and Miller will be on ELC next year or the following. Rangers problems in the past was paying too many dmen too much. If the cap rises in a few seasons, it won’t matter. Zibby will be up for a Panarin like raise soon... TDA is a very good offensive dman but like Shatty was for the NYR, he was a 3rd pairing dman with offense, Trouba and Fox are both good offensively and good dmen.</div></div>
Assumption was NYR would trade DeAngelo down the line
Yeah idk just thought Blues could use the cap but I could add a first if that does anything

Trying to find a realistic trade that can net the NYR a future 2C or 1B C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Philu916</b></div><div>So you’re saying a mid-late 1 PLUS a 3 for a guy who hasn’t played in the NHL bc he hasn’t been able to produce in the NHL? Feel like Lias and JP are both players who aren’t able to crack the lineups of there respective teams and if anything NYR would add a 3 or something since JP has more upside I’d guess. Also, Hajek was playing until he got hurt but now that Miller signed his ELC, plus Lindgren being here Hajek really won’t have an easy time cracking the lineup and I also hadn’t ruled out Rykov which is why I added Hajek. Bear is a RHD though so I put a LHD in the deal who was a high 2nd rounder.</div></div>
Puljujarvi has been discussed ad nauseam. He was mishandled and injured during is ELC. From outside the organization it looks as though what transpired is almost criminal given his analytics when playing with other top-end talent. The appearance is if as though the Oiler management and coaching staff at the time were so focused on avoiding the mistakes made with Yakupov that they inadvertently created a similar outcome by being overly cautious with Puljujarvi, rather than letting the young man play to his strengths. He is a superior talent in comparison to Andersson and I am suggesting that Holland will remain true to his statements on the subject of JP's trade value.
Edmonton has an abundance of good young LHD. Aside from Klefbom, Nurse, and Jones, who are all on the NHL roster, Lagesson is ready for full-time NHL duty and needs a qualifying offer. Reports indicate Broberg may be ready sooner than anticipated, Samorukov remains in the system and may still develop into a good two-way NHL defender. Lennstrom and Niemelainen are season pros in Europe and also under contract with the Oilers. Matt Cairns is probably going to be a minor league pro, but he may surprise. Lagesson plays a similar style to Hajek, as do Niemelainen and Cairns, Samorukov may be a better physical two-way d-man, Lennstrom is lightening fast and capable of both carrying and passing the puck out of the d-zone, and Broberg looks like a future top-2 defender.
Acquiring another RHD may make more sense for the Oilers. Bear has already established himself as a top-4 defender in the NHL, and by the end of next season Bouchard will probably be a regular fixture on the NHL roster. Larsson's contract expires after next season, and Benning needs a qualifying offer now. Berglund is an older player with a few seasons of pro experience in Sweden, he will need time to learn the North American game once he comes over. Phil Kemp and Michael Kesselring are both enjoying strong NCAA careers but the jury is still out with respect to whether or not either will become an NHL player some day. Benning is a very good 5-6 NHL defender, but his $2M qualifying offer is a bit tough to accept in the current fiscal environment. I can't see Holland trading JP for a young RHD to play behind Bear and Bouchard, that would be an imbalance in favour of New York and Tippett would likely rather have a veteran in the lineup anyway.

Trying to find a realistic trade that can net the NYR a future 2C or 1B C
My thoughts:
We know contracts with Kris Russell, Alex Chiasson, Adam Larsson, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins all expire after next season. I estimate there is more than $5,000,000 in free cap space, based on a stagnant cap, if the first three players are replaced with NHL-ready prospects. I'd argue that Russell has already been surpassed by Caleb Jones, and William Lagesson isn't far behind him, either of Tyler Benson or Cooper Marody could take Chiasson's spot, Ryan McLeod is not far either, and the combination of Bear and Bouchard could make parting with Larsson palatable. Yamamoto and Khaira will also need contracts, but the former will be an RFA without arbitration rights, and the latter could be surpassed by the aforementioned McLeod. There should be plenty of money to resign Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in Edmonton.
Strome was a decent 3C in Edmonton. My only issue with the player back then was his cap hit; I thought he was slightly over-compensated. Strome suffered a prolonged scoring drought and fell victim to one of Peter Chiarelli's panic attacks, he shouldn't have been traded. I don't think he will be reunited with the Oilers, and if he is he would almost certainly be the 3C once again.
Holland won't trade away one of his top 3 players and his top prospect for a 3C, a slow skating prospect that projects to be a 3C, and another young LHD. If he feels he can't sign Puljujarvi, Holland might have some interest in discussing that 1st round pick and the Ranger's 3rd round pick in exchange for JP, That won't address your desire to upgrade the Ranger's 2C though.

No idea why everyone thinks we need another center we have Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, Danault, Poehling, Evans, Domi, Teasdale, Hillis and too many others to name. Teasdale and Hillis are not making the Habs next season but Poehling could push for a spot so we have 5-6 guys to fill 4 spots. Yeah we need Strome like we need a hole in the head and Carolina's 1st may as well be a second!

If you're giving up a stud, you need a stud in return. Chytil, Krav, and the package above are not studs. Kakko Chytil Krav and a first or two gets it done, but anything short of that doesn't cut it. Have to remember Barkov is not only on an insane contract but he's their captain, you'll have to overpay.
