Draisaitl wouldn't be on the 2nd line without McDavid, buddy. And if Kane isn't on the 1st line, that means one of the 40-point monsters Yamamoto or Puljujarvi is

You could think about getting Duclair back as a deadline reinforcement. That's adding yet another 30-goal guy

Missing the Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>stephane_robidas</b></div><div>Each of those teams is deeper than Florida. Minnesota's highest-paid player makes like 9millionAAV. Florida has two at 10, one at 9.5, and one at 7.5
Edmonton has Draisaitl to step up if McDavid is hurt</div></div>
Minnesota also has 15M in dead cap, so I'm not sure where you're going with that. And Minnesota, too, has a player making 7,5M
And without McDavid, the Oilers' 2nd line would be RNH-McLeod-Yamamoto. Yaiks!

Yeah, but that's a big if and could be said of multiple playoff teams. What if McDavid, Kaprizov, or Shesterkin gets injured?

Missing the Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>stephane_robidas</b></div><div>I think you're an anomaly here.
No way this team is better than Tampa and Toronto, they're fighting with Boston and Detroit for third in the Atlantic.
The Metro likely takes up the two wild card spots: Carolina, NYR, Washington, Pittsburgh and potentially NYI all take the bacon. It's either third in the Atlantic or bust.</div></div>
To say that WSH and NYI are better than FLA seems foolish. The Isles don't have nearly the star power the Panthers have and without A-level coaching (cough, Trotz), they're almost a bottom-feeder. And I doubt Kuemper can carry the Caps once their old team runs out of gas by the all-star break again.
And in terms of their division, Detroit's defense is even shakier than the Panthers' and most likely means Husso won't be having a year like he had last season. And Boston? Marchand and McAvoy are going to be out until at least December, and without them (Grzelcyk, too for some time) their roster looks... inadequate

That's a big question mark, though. The guy has potential but he has played a total of 20 NHL games in his career. I don't think either Kapanen or POJ works in a Duclair trade

Knight and Meier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>1. Bob has full NMC. Not sure how he could be moved.
2. Knight may not be going anywhere, but could ask for $5-6 million deal to stay. There are plenty of goalies coming off ELCs who have signed similar deals (some with fewer starts than Knight). Will be interesting to see what Oettinger gets.
3. Now many
4. A contender needs assets to trade when they have a hole to fill.
5. Hughes is not going to be traded. He is an elite level prospect, which never get dealt (for a good reason). Devils have surplus dmen, especially two good rentals in Graves and Severson. Even if it’s not a Knight deal, I would imagine the two teams could match up if Florida had prospects to trade.</div></div>
Cool, Knight is also an elite level prospect. You gotta give to get (and I'm not convincing you should trade Hughes, that's just what you have that would get you Knight). Knight is an asset that a contender could use to fix the roster, no need to first move him for picks
And btw, if Knight, with no arbitration rights and two years of pro experience, gets 6M Zito should be fired immediately. Hart got less than 4M on his bridge deal, so did Vasilevskiy and Gibson

Knight and Meier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Okay. Not sure I understand the thinking here. But I'll take your word for it
For where I stand,
1. They have Bob for four more years
2. Knight is RFA next summer
3. Knight is not going to want to burn his age 18-24 years sitting on the bench
4. Panthers have few picks or prospects to make a move
5. Panthers need defense in serious way</div></div>
1. Bob's contract is tough but I'd bet on him not finishing it with Florida. Knight is the one that makes sense to hold on to. Keeping Bob would mean serious goaltending issues down the road.
2. Knight is an RFA with no leverage. That means he isn't going anywhere.
3. How many 21-year-old starters are there in the NHL? I doubt Knight is too disappointed with being a 1B. And he has already at times taken the starter role away from Bob, they play according to their performances.
4. A contender doesn't need picks. And if those picks are acquired just to trade them away, might as well get to the destination faster and get the quality piece. Needing futures is insignificant when you also need a 1st pair dman for years to come.
5. The Panthers do need defense. That's where Hughes comes in. They're built to be good for multiple years and sacrificing even more future for pending UFAs is foolish and bad asseta management.
If the Devils aren't keen on trading a top D-prospect for Knight, someone else could be. But even if that's not the case, the Panthers won't be forced to trade Knight.

But there are plenty of other options.
Put together a package of....
One of - Walsh, Bahl, Foote, Zetterlund, Gritsyuk, Mukhamadullin, Casey
One of - Thompson, Edwards, Salminen, Okhotiuk, Clarke, Stillman
One of - Severson, Graves
One of - Daws, Schmid, Blackwood, Vanecek, Bernier
One of - 2023 protected 1st, 2024 unprotected 1st
Would be plenty worthwhile</div></div>
Yeah, I'm afraid a package of any kind won't raise interest. The Panthers don't have any need to trade Knight so the price is a top-quality piece or no trade.

Necas, Bear and the first is probably an overpay for two years of Pierre Dubois.</div></div>
Florida only needs to dump 1,5M after putting Duclair to LTIR. But yeah, I doubt they'd make trades that add salary

The Panthers could also become cap compliant by moving Montour for a cheaper defenseman. I'm thinking Carson Soucy.
I'd say Soucy and Montour are on par with each other. Montour has a year more on his contract so Seattle would get more contract clarity by acquiring him.
However, that would only make the Panthers cap compliant until Duclair comes back

Barkov could very much win the Hart this season
I'd even say Barkov should be one of the front runners for the Hart. 40+ goals, 100+ points, and a Selke-worthy defense should make a guy the most valuable player in the league.
It's sad that the voters most likely just vote for the Art Ross or Rocket Richard winners. Like they always do

Yeah, maybe he won't. I wouldn't.

With Duclair going to the LTIR, they only need to dump 1,27M. It may not necessarily be Hornqvist and if it will be, they could retain 50% to make the dump way cheaper. (They could also try to swap someone like Montour for a guy who fills the same role but for cheaper. Like Soucy)
Or they pay the price to dump hornqvist fully and acquire a dman, but I don't think they have the assets for all that

I like Hornqvist better than Zucker both because of his play style and contract. I also like Bennett more than the rest of the package to Florida. Bennett either gives Florida an elite center department or he could be traded for a top4 dman.
