I'd take that if Im the Habs. Good trade. (Assuming the Habs could make the cap space needed)
Not that we'd really have to worry much but there would have to be lottery protection on the pick though. No way Im letting another Byram just fall into your laps. You got enough star players frig sakes. ;)

another G trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RichardAvs</b></div><div>Girard for Dvorak straight up?</div></div>
No. There r much better options at center the Avs could explore in a Girard trade. Sam Bennet in Florida comes to mind. They desperately need an upgrade on their left side after they moved Weegar.

2nd Line Center
I could definitely see COL making this trade. HECK, I could see Sakic trying to make a 3-way deal with AZ (as a place holder) for BOTH Kane and Toews. Kane and Toews are only owed $2.9M this year. Hawks retain 50%...aka...$1.45M and a 3rd party retain another 50% means $725k. That's not a lot of money at all.

Lundell could easily step into that 2C role so, no problem there I would think and G would pair well with Ekblad. This is a trade of G that actually makes some sense - well done!

That's actually a somewhat interesting trade with FLA. Bennett really turned a corner with them and would be a great 2C option for the Avs. Weegar is a good player but it's the last year of his deal so swapping Girard for him puts them in an awkward spot the year after unless they re-sign Weegar and perhaps trade Toews (to free up cap space and gain some assets back. I don't know that FLA would consider this to be enough of a return but the idea here is intriguing.

Haula wants a cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RichardAvs</b></div><div>I just think guys need to realize this is a legit contending team and Sakic won’t overpay, but I can legit see Toews take the Grzelcyk deal. Also with Haula and the market this offseason I can see him take a discount 1yr deal and test the weaker market next offseason.</div></div>
Haula could sign a super-cheap deal for one year and take advantage of being on a strong roster. Might even win a Cup; that should do wonders for his value. And Toews is very comparable to Gryz so I think that amount and term is fair.

What Makes a Good Third Line Center
Fill multiple roles, and fill injury holes in top 6 when needed, and possibly pot 20 goals. All depends on who’s ahead of him, might need a passer on the pp or key pk contributer or stand in front of the net on the pp. all depends on need, but ideally a jack of all trades. Khadr missed in Toronto for that role in my opinion.

Depends what else you have, team like Boston doesn't necessarily need a defensive minded 3c because they have Bergeron, whereas the avs will want someone to be able to play a more shutdown role

Really? Byram is one of the best defence prospect, maybe THE best, in the nhl. I would have thought it was fair.

Capnofriendly
Tierney could be interesting. We could definitely use an upgrade at 3C and push JT to the wing. He sounds like a nice option and that's really one of the few spots left that can be upgraded within reason. Good find. Given Ottawa's pretty quick retooling, they're looking much more competitive this year. Maybe could explore expanding the deal and adding some assets to have Cole go there, and/or Donskoi?
From the sounds of it, Toews might be making in the $4M+ range, but I guess we'll see if they get something done before it goes to Arbitration. Might need to clear more cap depending on what his contract ends up looking like. And I would think he ends up somewhere in the top-4. Maybe Toews-Makar and Graves gets pushed down to the 3rd pairing?
PEB a scratch? Buyout?

pretty sure based on how they talked about this on the Pod, this was talked about before Toews trade. They did Toews instead of Weegar

Not when you don't have second round picks for the next two years. You look at all of the successful playoff teams these days and what do they have in common? Players on ELCs. Gotta build through the draft.
