Ducharme is gone long before Habs give up on Caufield. That being said, after telling the media Ducharme is safe, he has become a huge issue.

Petry had outplayed Weber the last two seasons. When Weber was injured, Petry was still great. Petry missing his partner, Edmundson, and having a 4th string goalie, and all the off ice issues, has taken its toll.
0 reason he doesnt bounce back after a trade to USA

What do you think stats justifying trades is all about?
Until Petry is traded to another team, he can only be judged on what he has done in Montreal, and until this year, has improved every single year even into his 30s.

I Actually don't mind his contract with full rentention. Man that would cost a lot. Let's make a trade proposal to see what I think that would look like. I should now prepare for the wolves to eat my soul. **HIT SEND**
I didn't prepare well enough for that last part it appears. hahaha.</div></div>
Paying someone to take Ritchie will be costly. Leaf fans dont wanna hear it, but this deal is pretty fair. But Petry has a 15 team NTC, and the other 6 Canadian teams are guaranteed to be on it. Good idea, but wont happen due to non hockey related reasons.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Popular narratives are mostly objectively and blantantly wrong. MTL would be hard pressed to retain that much for that long. But it is a good package and would be the type of package needed for them to do it. Very few right d options out there are actually upgrades for the Leafs and intrigue me. Petry half retained would be interesting :p. But HIGHLY unlikely.
And I would think Petry would waive for Toronto. Looking at the Leafs team, he would be going to a stanley cup contender. I am sure he wouldn't pass that opportunity.</div></div>
Petry isnt upset with Montreal because they suck, his wife has been very vocal about mandates. Any Canadian team would be a non-starter for him and his family.
Otherwise, yeah he would be a great fit in Toronto. And I wouldn't mind at all retaining, as you have provided assets for that retention.

Lehkonen's numbers are better than Coleman's pre-trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>Nobody has said anywhere on here, that I can recall seeing, that Lehkonen has no value. In fact it's been quite the opposite. The fact he doesn't have the value Habs fans think he has is an entirely different thing. When Avs fans tell you it's fair in an Avs trade post I can understand you baulking a little, same in a Dallas post or a NYR post. <strong>When neutral fans of pretty much every other team are telling you it's pretty fair value</strong> (and a few lucid Habs fans as well), you might want to think long and hard. Are all the Habs fans overvaluing him or is everybody else undervaluing him? I know which you're going to say in advance but that's where your delusions lie.</div></div>
This is fair, however some of the loudest mouths in these posts are Leaf fans trashing every single Habs player that sent their team golfing last year. Just something to keep in mind.
If insiders are saying the price for Lehkonen looks like a 1st, its only natural for Habs fans to demand the value of a 1st.

IF Montreal doesnt get a better offer, he doesnt get trade. Luckily all the rumours say differently.

Miller would get more now than then as well. When he was traded to Vancouver it was as a cap casualty. Tampa could have held out for a better offer without that pressure, which is why Montreal can possibly extract more from a Toffoli trade. They have no need to move him.</div></div>
Toffoli's first trade was also a rental, whereas now he is signed to a team friendly deal with term. His value has definitely gone up.

Montreal has had both Scandella and Chiarot, and within a short period of time. Chiarot is better than Scandella and by a wide margin. Plus he is FAR better in the playoffs.
I get it, you don't like the idea of trading for a player you know little about. But that doesn't make the insiders wrong. I'll be sure to circle back if/when Blues trade for Chiarot.

Realistic Petry Trade Hopefully

Trade guys with value (ie: Toffoli, Lehkonen, Chiarot, Allen). Let Petry try to regain his value and flip him down the road. If they are rebuilding anyways then who cares about his contract on the habs.</div></div>
Petry has a NMC, if there is trade talks, its 100% because the player wants there to be.

Hughes said he did not "officially" ask for a trade, but he would be traded if it works for both teams. Petry has a NMC, if Petry didn't express interest in being traded, Hughes can't trade him, and therefore that comment would be meaningless.
I think Petry wants to leave, and Hughes is downplaying it to maintain some trade value.

Thread:
Realistic Petry Trade Hopefully
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Here is why habs fans like myself believe Petry will bounce back.
1. He had a career year last year, I don't think there is a single player in the history of the league who has posted the best season of his career then fallen off a cliff due to age or whatever over the course of one offseason.
2. Listening to Hughes press conference yesterday about him trading Petry if there was a deal that worked for both sides, tells me that Petry is not disgruntled with the Habs or fallen off a cliff as many speculate but is dealling with many off ice issues that are wearing on him mentally. Having sent his family back to the states over the Christmas holidays, and dealing with injuries and covid restrictions and not seeing his family for going on two or three months has got to be more than a little depressing. Especially since in normal years his family spends the season in Montreal like Price's do, his sons call Gally uncle and they are adored by the team and staff.</div></div>
Yeah, its important to note that much of Petry's struggles or motivation might be linked to what his wife has been posting about online. Its clear their family is very much against the mandates in Canada, and Montreal having some of the worst. And maybe he has special treatment as a hockey player, his family still has to follow them. And when he gets home he still has to hear about them.
If his family was told to go back to the States, this is likely the reason. With no Weber or Price, Petry also sees Montreal's compete window being slammed shut, and likely wants to be moved to an American team that's contending.
I personally would be willing to retain 50% to make it happen, IF that means we get a decent return.

Niemela is second in LIIGA scoring for defenseman and 18th in the entire league AS A 19 YEAR OLD. Every player that has more points than Niemela in LIIGA is atleast 4 years older than him. I can understand an argument against Robertson considering his injury issues, but he has been extremely unlucky. Saying Knies and Niemela arent elite is blasphemy</div></div>
Knies makes Team USA when NHL, AHL and ECHL isn't going? Sean Farrell is going for Montreal, and nobody has him even in our top 5 prospects. Check out the names on those team lists... Either washed NHLers, Players that couldn't make the NHL, and a couple prospects. Good for them, but Its not like they are Owen Power or anything.
