This is all bad. Typical NYR AGM.

yes GMs also dont move star players for scraps, especially not after the ROR trade, unless pressured. But theres no pressure from us, theirs actually the opposite. If Adams wanted a $hit trade, he would have taken one of the plenty he had on the table, he knows the repercussions if he does though

Eichel trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slapshot30003</b></div><div>While I agree it's not the best. You may need to start preparing for the fact you may not get what you think out of him. If Salary get's retained, it could help, but word is out on this and the other teams have all the leverage. Unfortunately for you fans, the GM is playing the LONG waiting game to trade him. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. In this case, since he doesn't have much leverage in negotiations, he won't be able to get what you think he should. I don't see too many desperate GM's out there willing to make it happen.
Moreover, teams should have their star players back on issues like this. I bet the rest of the league... including OWEN POWER are taking note of this and will be much more reluctant on signing there.
I hate to say it, but Buffalo is still in for some hard times whether you like it or not. The key tell sign for me was the fact Owen Power is going back to school. Thats the sign that he doesn't want to play there. He gave up over $1 million to go back to Michigan.</div></div>
The Sabres literally wanted Power to go back to school. There is no point for him being here next year. They are trying to lose again. It is so short sighted to believe this is a slight against the Sabres. If the Sabres truly wanted him in the lineup next year he would be here.
Power will play the year in Michigan, log big minutes, play in every situation on a stacked team and go to World Juniors. Then after the NCAAs he will sign at the end of the season and get a few games in this year. Barring injury you will see Power in a sabres uni before the end of the year.
I get he's 1st overall and it may not seem normal, but then again what has normal been lately? no fans, covid, shortened season etc. We are not in normal times. Also, see Makar, Hughes, Werenski all as recent examples on D-man who went back to college after being drafted (Makar is somewhat of an outlier because he was drafted out of jrs.)
As far as the trade above goes, you would have to change the 2023 to a 2022 1st and include Svechkov to get the conversation started.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Do they? Romanov is an A prospect. 2x 1st. Pohling is a B prospect. Drouin could be good for buffalo and can be flipped this year or next. Byron is overpayed but performed super well in the playoffs but probably has negative value.
I think they would want KK in the trade, but I didn't like Montreals roster without KK.
I think Buffalo considers this.</div></div>
Romanov would be a 3rd pairing defenseman with Dahlin and power on the left side.

When Aaron Dell and Craig Anderson are the Sabres listed NHL goalies other fans think they need a goalie. Like he, insert just about any goalie name, would improve the team or think they are trying to win. Sabres are in Pitt/Edm mode+. Trying for 3 top 3 picks in a row...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MurkasPyrulas</b></div><div>great deal both ways imo, might be an overpay eventually but right now makes ottawa better (defense still stinks lol) but great talented exciting top 9 besides dadonov, tierney we know what they are... for a rebuilding (again) buffalo what more could you want senators give up a lot yes but if this is god awful for buffalo... the fans are being greedy with absolutely no leg to stand on</div></div>
Greedy how? We’re giving up the best player in the deal by a country mile and getting nothing of actual value in return outside the first round pick. Logan Brown and Brannstrom have done nothing at the professional level to be worthy of being part of such a trade. Those are the roster players you’re proposing to send in return. The other two are prospects and God only knows if they’ll pan out at all. Consider that we are sending our franchise player to another team in our own division where he can burn us for the next 5 years at least, the only one being greedy here is you.

The trade that gives you the closest comparable to Eichel is Calgary with Tkachuk. Every team, thinks their prospects are amazing, but Tkachuk is an established elite who might not have met his ceiling (same as Eichel).

Buffalo would not make that trade one for one. Caufield is a good starting point, but Montreal would have to add one more young asset at least to make that happen.

Opinions on Owen Power
Hard to say. Nobody has traded a 1st overall pick in the salary cap era. But this year with no consensus top pick its probably similar value to a 2nd-4th overall pick in years past. If there was a trade for 1st overall I bet it would be a scenario where a team trades up a few spots rather than putting a full package of NHLers and prospects together

I think he will be a for sure top pairing defenceman but beyond that I can’t say. He has the size you love to see and the kid certainly can skate. I don’t think he will be Chris Pronger but he also won’t be Gord Kluzak

If Devils won lottery and #1 overall and were trade down, I’d want a 1st in top-6, a prospect and probably another mid or later pick.
From Ducks, ~ 3rd overall, Ian Moore and a mid pick.

We can retain some salary, but 12 spots in the draft is almost nothing. Especially going from 31 to 19, hypothetically

Well the Sabres wouldn't be just giving him away either. we'd need more value then moving up 12 spots in the draft.
