<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMTD</b></div><div>I kicked the tires on the Vesey trade and as you I do not think it really does not make much sense for Buffalo. I know most people are down on Okposo (I am as well because he is over pair), but he played with Sobotka, Girgensons, Larsson a great deal of the time. Of his 14 goals he had only one assist from Skinner and none from Eichel. When he was on the PP he played with Rodrigues and Sheary. I think he was misused by Housley, but I could be in error. if the Sabres could find a decent 3rd line center they could try this line up:
Skinner - Eichel - Okposo
Olofsson - Mittelstadt - Reinhart (Mittelstadt needs to work out with Reinhart over the summer)
Sheary - Bonino for a 3rd - Rodrigues (Sheary and Rodrigues played really well together, put Bonino between them and Sheary could be the H of the KBH line.
Ruotsalainen - Asplund - Thompson/Nylander</div></div>

If I have Nylander/Thompson/Ruotsalainen up I'd rather them playing with Eichel and Skinner as their upside and potental is much higher. Of those three ideally its Nylander and the other two (especially Thompson are in Rochester) I totally agree that one of the problems with Okposo the last few years has been who he has been playing with. But i'd rather give our premium prospects the best chance to succeed and try to figure out better linemate for Okposo. Think maybe: Sheary - Rodriguez - Okposo as a line with just players we have now.. but thru trade or free agency that could be upgraded.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ristoeichel</b></div><div>I love it for Buffalo.....they could use a forward with some size and grit and Vesey will probably come well motivated in his contract year. NYR are in need of a need of a more stay at home D and we have Scandella and McCabe who could be moved. It's a #4-5 D-Man for a top nine winger and secondary scoring. I don't have an issue with it. Not to mention... moving McCabe or Scandella will open a clear path for Pilut next year. Buffalo fans need to get over Vesey turning down Buffalo.... He wanted to test free agency and turned down several teams including Nashville, Toronto, and Boston. We gave up third round pick....who cares

But i'd rather keep McCabe and move Scandella if your dealing for Vesey.</div></div>

Vesey is at best a 3rd liner he only had 35 points last year and that was his best season. If you trade him you're going to want to extend him and that would probably be around $4 million per year IF he wanted to play here, which he's already decided once that he doesn't.

McCabe on the other had is still a young-ish defenseman who I believe we could extend for the next 4 years at a very reasonable number ($2.5 - $3 million) he still has a ton of upside. Buffalo's defensive core is depleted right now.. after Risto, Montour, Dahlin, McCabe you have nothing but a bunch of 7th defensemen.. Especially with Bogosian being hurt again. The ONLY way i would trade McCabe right now would be after the draft, if somehow by trading up or dumb luck Buffalo could draft Bowen Byram. But even then i think McCabe is a nice player to have unless the return for him is stupid good.

I know Buffalo needs to fix their bottom 9 forwards but the defense still has plenty of holes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RevRyan</b></div><div>My biggest problem with this isn’t even the trades, it’s your understanding of evaluations of players 1, no one is taking Okposos contract. 2. Trouba says he won’t sign anywhere for under 7, and since we had to over pay for Skinner we will need to overpay for Trouba as well. Honestly, Troubas good but not 7 mil good. Rather have Risto</div></div>

1. so Trouba won't sign for less than 7 million but you say he's not worth 7 million and i had him at 6.5million???? how am i not evaluating Trouba correctly? sounds like i evaluated him about the same as you.
2. I'm very optimistic that there is a team out there that will take a 3rd line winger AND A 1ST ROUND PICK for minimal return even if he cost $6 million a year.
3. back to Trouba.. because we "overpaid" Skinner (that's very debatable) we would have to overpay Trouba?? but you just said you wouldn't pay him 7... and i didn't even have him at 7...
4. I would probably have Risto too but that's not the trade.. i would rather have Trouba AND Ehlers than Risto, Thompson, Nelson and two 2nd rounders..

we can debate the $$$ which is fine but telling me i can't evaluate a player because you think that 6.5 is too low, that the player wouldn't sign for less than 7, but you wouldn't pay him 7, but think that we would have to overpay him.... your argument (which you are inclined to have) doesn't make any sense. Seeing as how you just joined the site, just remember none of use are real NHLGMs.. we are here to have fun and speculate. (except for GMTD I'm convinced he's Jason Botterill LMAO)

Honestly i wrote out the majority of this post thinking there was ZERO chance paying Marner that much could work here without destroying the team/cap for years to come.. but honestly after doing all the math and work on it i think that not only is it do able cap wise but, Buffalo could offer alittle MORE. The trick will be trying to sign some players to slightly longer bridge deals which normally means costing you more. But if they can do that and then let the cap ceiling catch up over the next two years then everything will work out.

Reinhart probably costs BUF $6-$7 million after his bridge deal
Mitts will get a bridge for say $3 million if he has a decent year $4 m if he has a great year.
Montour will be $6 million-ish
Then in 2 years Dahlin will be looking for anywhere from $6-$8 million,
Tage Thompson will get $2 million
Nylander anywhere from $2-$4 million depending if he shows up or not,
Finally Oloffson maybe $2million tops..
so if we go high on all these that is $33 million worth in the next 2 years.

Coming off you have:
-$12million that we are already paying those players
-$5 million for Bogo
-$8 million for Callahan and Hunwick combined
that's -$25 million..
with the cap going up maybe another $6 million in those 2 years
so -$31 million.. that puts you -$2 million behind the projected cap in two years with no other trades or move... that's definatly work able i think Marner could fit in nicely here..

I'm going to be making my own roster after doing all this to hopefully reflect it all.
