Boot goodrow
Goodrow, more specifically his contract, doesn't ' align with Detroit's plans.
Jones would just take a roster spot and playing minutes in Grand Rapids away from one of Detroit's young defensemen. Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johansson, McIssac. These 4 guys will have the left D side taken care of in GR.

I’m also happy Detroits average size for Defenders is 6’3” and 220lbs. They may sometimes get out skated or make a bad turnover but at the very least we won’t watch them be pushed around and out muscled in their own zone.

If we didn't have Holl signed I would love this move. Petry at 2.3m is actually a steal for what he brings. he was just wayyyy overpaid in Pittsburgh at 6.25m. But with both Holl and Petry we now have two older RD's locked in for the next 2 years, which i'm not overly thrilled about.

He's got a lot of Vets / experience on the blueline now, which I don't mind at all after the past 7 years of watching Detroit's D get regularly blown apart. More experience on the blueline is never a bad thing. Petry, Chiarot, Holl, Maatta, Ghost, these guys will all shuffle around the bottom 4 with Walman and Seider locking down the top pairing. It almost guarantees Edvinsson will start the season in Grand Rapids, also don't totally mind. Injuries are going to happen. Theres no way Petry, Chiarot, Holl, Maatta and Ghost are all gonna play 82 games at their age. Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder, Tuomisto will all benefit from a full year getting a lot of minutes in GR,

Not trading a 1st for Trouba. not that Trouba doesn't deserve that, he's just not the player we need that would warrant giving up such a valuable asset to a rebuilding team. Trouba wouldn't be our 1RD, he be a 2nd pair RD for Detroit behind Mo. A 1C (with term) is the only position I'd consider trading a 1st for.

Itd be so hilarious to get phil back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SharkTank</b></div><div>Phil was never going to be a franchise player for any team. He was the perfect complimentary supporting star like Marian Hossa.
That's why Phil was a perfect fit in Pittsburgh. The perfect #3 guy to Sid and Geno. How good was that HBK line?
Brian Burke tried fast tracking the Leafs into Cup contenders. He tried building his team around Dion Phaneuf and Kessel. Phaneuf was similar to Phil. Not suited to be the #1 guy. But a perfect #2D.
I hated hearing Leafs fans piling on those 2 players all the time. They were just copying what the moron tv "experts" were telling them..
One time I heard a blowhard Leafs fan blathering on and on about Phil Kessel. I kid you not. This guy looked like a fatter version of Joe Bowen. They HAD to be related. Same voice. Same cadence.
Only I always liked Joe Bowen. This fat, obnoxious Doppelganger was annoying. He didn't have an original thought in his body. So he says to another Leafs fan "Phil Kessel will never win a Stanley Cup because Phil Kessel is all about me, me and me."
Well I had enough and yelled at the guy for a good 5 minutes. I told him to stop trying to look and sound like Joe Bowen. I told him how ridiculous he sounded. And I said there's nothing wrong with Phil Kessel. His job is to score goals. Does he score goals? Yes.
I then told him he'd win a Cup somewhere else. He just needed to get out of Toronto. I was wrong of course. Kessel has won 3 Cups since then.
Not I wish I could see that fat **** Doppelganger Joe Bowen now. All these clowns do is copy TSN and Sportsnet and shows like Overdrive and pretend it's their own takes.
Drives me up the wall! Sorry for the rant! 😁</div></div>
Fat couch potatoes who criticize pro athletes about their performances when they couldn't last 1 shift in the NHL themselves without getting destroyed are very annoying.

I always respected Phil for being himself. He became one of my favourite players when he stuck up for Dion Phaneuf. He made me laugh how he handled coach Randy Carlyle.
"Yes Randy. Ok Randy. Thanks Randy."
🤣</div></div>
He takes the cup to Toronto to celebrate and fills it with hot dogs as a big F U to the Leafs and the Toronto media for 6 years of verbal abuse he suffered and everyone saying Toronto could never win with Phil Kessel on the team because he's a hot dog eating bum.
Cup count since the trade:
Phil Kessel - 3
Toronto Maple Leafs - 0
If there's one thing Phil hates more than his love for hot dogs, it's the Toronto media.

True. But would happily do that at the TDL if we have the spot available to do it.
There's a good chance Perron will be traded with retainage at the TDL, Every contender would LOVE to have him at 50%. That would leave one spot available for a trade and retain. Sprong. Fischer, Ghost are all candidates.

Veleno and Zadina are two different situations. Zadina asked for a trade. Veleno wants to be in Detroit. If Zadina didn't ask for a trade, Yzerman said his expectation was that he'd compete for a roster spot at training camp and be a Red Wing. Likely only being waived if he didn't make the roster. Veleno is going to make the team. Albeit likely as a 4th line player, maybe get some 3rd line minutes if he plays very well.

Youth Movement in 2024-2025
I wouldn't be surprised to see Maatta moved but it will happen next summer if it does. It will all depend on the play of Edvinsson, Wallinder and Johansson. All three of these guys will get looks this season, Edvinsson 100% will see time in Detroit. Wallinder and Johansson depending on their play in Grand Rapids. Johansson was scheduled to come up to Detroit for a 9 game stint last year but got injured right before his call up which was very unfortunate. I expect his call up this year. Wallinder has only played 1 game in North America thus far so if he gets called up it won't be until the end of the season after the TDL. Edvinsson will have 1 more year max in the AHL and then he's a Red Wing in 2024/2025. If one of Wallinder or Johansson show they're NHL ready. Maatta will be moved to make way.

Youth Movement in 2024-2025
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Then he sucks. If Mercer and Boldy are his best comparables then that’s what he shoudl get</div></div>
Raymond doesn't suck but he did have a sophomore slump, offensively speaking, compared to his rookie season. His contract will be based on his performance in his 3rd season. But at this stage I wouldn't lock him in for 7 years at 7m per. My prediction for Raymond is a bridge deal at 3 years and somewhere between 5m to 6m per year. Boldy scored 30 goals in his sophomore season which warranted a 7 year 7m contract. Raymond had 17 goals down from his 23 as a rookie. But he was also deployed a lot more in the D zone last year under Lalonde than he was in his rookie season under Blashill and did commit more to a two way game. So that's also a factor in the dip in production. But his +/- improved drastically as a result. from -32 to -17 which is a big improvement (by Detroit standards) especially considering he produced less offence. After the season ended he did put on quite a show at the World Championships and was Sweden's best offensive threat every game at 21 year old. We saw a major boost in his confidence during that tournament which we're hoping continues into the upcoming NHL season. If he manages to score 30 goals and 60 points and shows he's going to be that true top line winger, which he is totally capable of, then maybe he will get his 7 years 7m deal. But anything less and he'll get his bridge deal until the result arrive. He'll very much be a top line winger in the NHL, but the question is does that happen in his 3rd season or his 4th season? or even his 5th season? Similar to the road Nathan Mackinnon took. Mackinnon had a banger of a rookie year, then 3 consecutive down years on a bad Colorado team. He finally arrived in his 5th NHL season and has been force ever since.
For Raymond I'm not ready for Yzerman to open up the check book just yet. We need that 3rd season to determine where he should come in at. As for our other big upcoming RFA, Mo Seider. I've seen enough. Back up the brinks truck and lock that guy in for 8 years at 9.5m per.

Kasper on the other hand like a lot of players taken in the top 15 did not have the best d+1 seasons barely improved his totals I'm just sayin I personally would prefer taking rare skillsets like a Savoie. I'm an enormous Datsyuk fan and absolutely despise the Bruins. But I have to be real. Bergeron was better at the two way game consistently throughout his career. 6 Selkes vs 3 Selkes. And Bergeron won the Selke in his final two seasons when he was 36 and 37. That's insane. Datsyuk was elite as f*** in his prime but in his final two seasons but he wasn't at the top level that he played at between 2006 - 2012 anymore. Patrice was still in his prime the day he retired. He's a legend.
#1 is Patrice Bergeron
#2 is Pavel Datsyuk
#3 is Sergei Fedorov
Honorable mention to Peter Forsberg. Never won a Selke, but my god there wasn't a player that scared me more than him during the late 1990's early 2000's when the wings had to play Colorado.

The forwards who were taken after Kasper were Savoie, Geekie, Nazar, McGroarty, Lekkerimaki...since the draft day Kasper has proven to be the best forward out of that group, the rest are kinda underwhelming for 1st rounders. Snuggerrud is the only guy who has potentially looked as good as Kasper, but he's a winger. I'd rather have Kasper at C. So not exactly sure who you're referring to when you say Steve passed over this guy or over that guy for Kasper. The reality is the 2022 draft probably wasn't the best draft out there for talent and Steve took the best player available. Not sure what else you expect him to do.
When the wings came up to draft at 9th overall. there were no more 'elite forwards' available. Danielson was the best two way forward available. He fits the mold of a Ryan O'Reilly / Henrik Zetterberg type. That's my hope for him. I'll stop short of saying he'll be a Patrice Bergeron type because he's probably the best two way forward ever. But all those guys were never really elite players who will ever contend for a scoring title, but come playoff time, they are guys you want on your team. Conn Smythe type guys.
The Danielson is a middle six forward talk is just garbage. The same thing's were all said about Mo Seider who was projected to be a good 2nd pair Dman or very below average 1st pair Dman...why would Steve use a 6th overall pick to draft a 2nd pairing Dman...what was he thinking?!?! Now those same people are saying why is Steve using 9th Overall to draft a third line center...what was he thinking?!?! Danielson's numbers in the WHL are deceiving because he was on a very bad team without much talent around him. Give him a few quality teammates who can help to distribute the pressure off of him and he'd easily be a 100pt player in his draft year. I spent more time watching his play since he was drafted and now I see why they took him at 9th. The kid is a stud
