<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SharkTank</b></div><div>Phil was never going to be a franchise player for any team. He was the perfect complimentary supporting star like Marian Hossa.

That's why Phil was a perfect fit in Pittsburgh. The perfect #3 guy to Sid and Geno. How good was that HBK line?

Brian Burke tried fast tracking the Leafs into Cup contenders. He tried building his team around Dion Phaneuf and Kessel. Phaneuf was similar to Phil. Not suited to be the #1 guy. But a perfect #2D.

I hated hearing Leafs fans piling on those 2 players all the time. They were just copying what the moron tv "experts" were telling them..

One time I heard a blowhard Leafs fan blathering on and on about Phil Kessel. I kid you not. This guy looked like a fatter version of Joe Bowen. They HAD to be related. Same voice. Same cadence.

Only I always liked Joe Bowen. This fat, obnoxious Doppelganger was annoying. He didn't have an original thought in his body. So he says to another Leafs fan "Phil Kessel will never win a Stanley Cup because Phil Kessel is all about me, me and me."

Well I had enough and yelled at the guy for a good 5 minutes. I told him to stop trying to look and sound like Joe Bowen. I told him how ridiculous he sounded. And I said there's nothing wrong with Phil Kessel. His job is to score goals. Does he score goals? Yes.

I then told him he'd win a Cup somewhere else. He just needed to get out of Toronto. I was wrong of course. Kessel has won 3 Cups since then.

Not I wish I could see that fat **** Doppelganger Joe Bowen now. All these clowns do is copy TSN and Sportsnet and shows like Overdrive and pretend it's their own takes.

Drives me up the wall! Sorry for the rant! 😁</div></div>

Fat couch potatoes who criticize pro athletes about their performances when they couldn't last 1 shift in the NHL themselves without getting destroyed are very annoying.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Then he sucks. If Mercer and Boldy are his best comparables then that’s what he shoudl get</div></div>

Raymond doesn't suck but he did have a sophomore slump, offensively speaking, compared to his rookie season. His contract will be based on his performance in his 3rd season. But at this stage I wouldn't lock him in for 7 years at 7m per. My prediction for Raymond is a bridge deal at 3 years and somewhere between 5m to 6m per year. Boldy scored 30 goals in his sophomore season which warranted a 7 year 7m contract. Raymond had 17 goals down from his 23 as a rookie. But he was also deployed a lot more in the D zone last year under Lalonde than he was in his rookie season under Blashill and did commit more to a two way game. So that's also a factor in the dip in production. But his +/- improved drastically as a result. from -32 to -17 which is a big improvement (by Detroit standards) especially considering he produced less offence. After the season ended he did put on quite a show at the World Championships and was Sweden's best offensive threat every game at 21 year old. We saw a major boost in his confidence during that tournament which we're hoping continues into the upcoming NHL season. If he manages to score 30 goals and 60 points and shows he's going to be that true top line winger, which he is totally capable of, then maybe he will get his 7 years 7m deal. But anything less and he'll get his bridge deal until the result arrive. He'll very much be a top line winger in the NHL, but the question is does that happen in his 3rd season or his 4th season? or even his 5th season? Similar to the road Nathan Mackinnon took. Mackinnon had a banger of a rookie year, then 3 consecutive down years on a bad Colorado team. He finally arrived in his 5th NHL season and has been force ever since.

For Raymond I'm not ready for Yzerman to open up the check book just yet. We need that 3rd season to determine where he should come in at. As for our other big upcoming RFA, Mo Seider. I've seen enough. Back up the brinks truck and lock that guy in for 8 years at 9.5m per.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Schuyler</b></div><div>I agree his defense picks have been good I just am not a fan of who he passed on to pick Kasper and Danielson I think they're very much middle 6 forwards and the wings system heavily lacks on elite forward talent which IMO will be the reason they probably don't win a cup with this rebuild</div></div>

The forwards who were taken after Kasper were Savoie, Geekie, Nazar, McGroarty, Lekkerimaki...since the draft day Kasper has proven to be the best forward out of that group, the rest are kinda underwhelming for 1st rounders. Snuggerrud is the only guy who has potentially looked as good as Kasper, but he's a winger. I'd rather have Kasper at C. So not exactly sure who you're referring to when you say Steve passed over this guy or over that guy for Kasper. The reality is the 2022 draft probably wasn't the best draft out there for talent and Steve took the best player available. Not sure what else you expect him to do.

When the wings came up to draft at 9th overall. there were no more 'elite forwards' available. Danielson was the best two way forward available. He fits the mold of a Ryan O'Reilly / Henrik Zetterberg type. That's my hope for him. I'll stop short of saying he'll be a Patrice Bergeron type because he's probably the best two way forward ever. But all those guys were never really elite players who will ever contend for a scoring title, but come playoff time, they are guys you want on your team. Conn Smythe type guys.

The Danielson is a middle six forward talk is just garbage. The same thing's were all said about Mo Seider who was projected to be a good 2nd pair Dman or very below average 1st pair Dman...why would Steve use a 6th overall pick to draft a 2nd pairing Dman...what was he thinking?!?! Now those same people are saying why is Steve using 9th Overall to draft a third line center...what was he thinking?!?! Danielson's numbers in the WHL are deceiving because he was on a very bad team without much talent around him. Give him a few quality teammates who can help to distribute the pressure off of him and he'd easily be a 100pt player in his draft year. I spent more time watching his play since he was drafted and now I see why they took him at 9th. The kid is a stud
