Detroit is not wasting our retention slot on a measly 4th... we'll see where things are at at the deadline and assess then, but no chance in hell we're doing it now

It would have to be a TDL trade cause the Jets aren't doing it now either.

True. But would happily do that at the TDL if we have the spot available to do it.

There's a good chance Perron will be traded with retainage at the TDL, Every contender would LOVE to have him at 50%. That would leave one spot available for a trade and retain. Sprong. Fischer, Ghost are all candidates.

It would be close to the deadline. I’m saying this would be if the jets are out of the playoff race. I feel like that’s a solid deal for all three sides

Kovalenko is signed and ready to join the Avs once the KHL season is complete. Nino is no longer needed

i mean if we need another top 9 forward even after kovalenko comes it wouldn't hurt to have nino come in, we watched him score a bunch against us when he was with minny, be nice to have those going to the other way. But nino was just moved for a 2nd with term so you're pretty much giving our 1st away for demelo retained, some retention on nino which seems steep to me.

Jets aren't trading Nino or DeMelo, especially not for a late 1st and late 2nd lmao

Top 4 defenseman even as rental typically snag a 1st. He’s exactly the type of defenseman teams are looking for at the deadline as well.

IMO the jets aren’t even going to be a playoff team and typically teams trade upcoming UFA’s at the deadline. If you really think you can get more than a 1st and a 2nd for them you’re in for a disappointment

Nino is a known commodity which could be the direction we’d go at the deadline. Kovalenko for sure could still slot on that 4th line and swing LOC to the LW

You have no idea what you're talking about if you think the Jets aren't going to be a playoff team lmao. They're better on paper this season than they were last

Detroit isn't wasting a retention slot on another team for a lousy 4th round pick. We're already retaining on Vrana. And will probably retain on Perron that only leaves 1 more spot for 4 more UFAs pass.

I disagree they are better on paper. A little deeper sure but losing a 65-70 point center and replacing him with 2 wings that have never scored more than 45 points in a season isn’t better. If vilardi is able to take the 2C role and breaks out big I could eat my words though

The top goalie basically requested a trade outta town. There's no belief. It's a recipe for disaster

Vegas has the betting line on Winnipeg at 91.5 points. Colorado is at 106.5, Dallas at 102.5, Minnesota at 96.5, Blues and Preds are 88.5 each. Arizona and Chicago are lower.

In the Pacific, Edmonton, LA, and Vegas are are projected >100 points. Calgary at 92.5, Seattle at 90.5, and Vancouver at 89.5.

Of course anything can happen but Winnipeg is fighting 5 other teams for two wild card spots in the minds of most reasonable people. When you consider that their 1C (Scheifele), their star goalie (Helly), and half of their top 4 (DeMelo and Dillon) are pending UFAs, it seems likely that Winnipeg could be a seller at the deadline.

Don’t act like this guy is clueless when he says that Winnipeg isn’t a playoff team. That’s an entirely reasonable prediction.

I’d be very surprised if kovalenko was promised that third line spot and Ik neither you or I would know for sure either way. Ik his dad didn’t want him playing in the ahl though so I imagine a promise to be on the nhl roster was made. Even if that third line RW was promised and he’s for sure good enough to play it Nino would still be a great addition in the lineup anywhere

Yeah, his dad was VERY public about what his "son's goals" were in the NHL. The helicopter parents' kids are growing up and here we are lol. That being said, I think its a very safe assumption that he will get 3rd line minutes to start things out. That being said.....if his season goes down the tubes this year in the KHL all bets are off.

Of course it's possible, but they're a deeper team than they were last year and they'll have a healthy Ehlers all season. They're still better than Vancouver, Calgary and Nashville, and i'd wager they finish ahead of Minny in the Central. People are underrating them

I’m high on kovalenko and I’m for him getting that 3rd line wing role and think he fits the style really well. I just think Nino is a really good middle six winger that can slot anywhere in the middle 6 and wouldn’t be a detriment on the top line next to Mack. Hes a hard forechecker hits a ton and has scored 20 goals 3 years in a row. He’s the perfect rental for our team

I might be in the minority, but I don't think we are getting rentals this year. I'd bet that management has 2024-2025 as "the next one" in mind for us to go all in. I think we have to see how the Landy situation plays out next off-season before parting with too many other assets. That being said, a Nino type of dude is exactly what we should get if we go for something. I'm just not sure we're willing to part with any worthwhile assets for him.

I mean it’s hard to guess any of this stuff with any degree of certainty. They might just squeak into the playoffs, but they’re far enough from contention that I can’t imagine they would make any ripples.

I guess I’d assume a GM would want to get value on Helly, Scheifele, and the two defenseman and use that to jumpstart a rebuild. But Chevy has been so methodical as GM that maybe he’s content with rebuilding slowly too.

If Drouin and johansen both flop I don’t think we’ll go super hard for rentals but if one hits or better both hits and play like we hope they will I think we’ll for sure go for rentals. If they both put up 50 points minimum with our elite talent if we acquire some good depth we’ll be extremely hard to beat.

I mean orlov and Hathaway with retention as well as an additional cap dump went for a 1st 2nd and 3rd. Without the additional cap dump a 1st and a 2nd makes sense as Nino is better than Hathaway but demelo is worse than orlov
