Trades with Toronto and Ottawa
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I think the Ottawa trade is right on value.
As to the Toronto trade, it's a good idea but you have the two wrong defensemen from Dallas. Methot is in the last year of his contract and may turn out to be a rental player; if not, he just presents another high-price player to re-sign in 2019. The right two players from Dallas are Stephen Johns and Esa Lindell (who, although also in the last year of his contract, should be much easier to sign). Toronto doesn't need Honka because they have plenty of D prospects in the system.</div></div>
Nah. Lindell and Johns are far too important for us to give away for this return. Lindell is better than Borgman and will be in the future as well, and Johns is better than Zaitsev(at least very close to him, and signed to a much better contract). If those were the d-men DAL would give away in this trade, it would be a freaking steal from Toronto.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DJSums17</b></div><div>How are you helping the logjam LHD when you're giving us back a LHD??? Also Honka is nowhere close to what Zaitsev is and never will be, not saying he isn't good but Zaitsev is better then he showed last year and making this trade wold be selling low on him which Dubas isnt dumb enough to do. Sure Methot is better right now but Borgman will surpass him sooner then later. You leave the trade of CMac and a 4th for a 3rd I'd do that.</div></div>
Read the whole thing - I said <strong>prospect</strong> logjam. You guys have a lot of young promising LHDs (such as Dermott, Borgman, Rosen, Sandin and Nielsen). Adding a decent experienced LHD that becomes UFA next season is beneficial for your prospects, they have a place to fill after his contract expires.
What comes to Zaitsev, I believe Honka will become as good or even better player than him. He just not seem to have any future in Dallas (a crying shame really, but we already have quite a lot of offensive d-men in our roster). Zaitsev could work for us, and getting rid of his salary will certainly help you, since you need all the money necessary to resign your star players. I think it's a win-win solution.

Let me rephrase that: Duchene is a great 2nd centre.

Trade with Tampa and Toronto
I like these trade suggestions. Johnson would be great addition to our team. But since Tampa is in win-now mode, I don't believe they'll start trading their more valuable assets until 2019 Draft, when Kucherov etc. must be resigned.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>skriko</b></div><div>would solidify two elite scoring lines , dallas in running out of time and seguin will want big $$$ to stay</div></div>
Money isn't the issue, Dallas have all the money they need to resign Seguin. Adding Pacioretty to the players that must be resigned and selling our best prospect away shouldn't be part of the plan. Dallas would be better off with keeping their best prospect and try signing a significant reinforcement to the team, such as Stastny or JVR.
Signing one of those would be much better option than overpaying badly for one year of Pacioretty - especially if he has another bad season.

Trades with ARI and PHI
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>J_Sand3rs</b></div><div>The big draw of this deal for Philly would be Honka. However, that being said, Philly doesn't really need another young defenseman. Between Provorov, Sanheim, Gostisbehere, Hagg, etc. they really have no need for Honka. Instead of that trade, how about this instead:
:stars
Michael Neuvirth
Wayne Simmonds
4th Round Pick
:flyers
Jason Spezza ($3.75M retained)
Jason Dickinson
Brett Ritchie
2nd Round Pick
Philly gets a good, young center in Dickinson, the Stars eat 50% of Spezza's contract, and Philly gets a top-50 pick.</div></div>
I approve this. I like this suggestion.

Doubt Sanheim signs that long of a deal with that amount of money. If his makes a certain upgrade, he'd become the biggest cheapskate in the league.

I don't really want him to be traded at all, but I know for a fact that this team needs a wake-up call, and this is one way to do it.

It would be a strike of good luck just to get Seguin in the first place. Him having a good season with a worse offense than Dallas would be catching lighting in a bottle.</div></div>
Happy to see there are some Habs fans that are realists and actually know the state of their team right now.

It's a possibility. I think however that you'd be much more likely to get him signed if he hypothetically played a very good season with the Habs than just paying a crazy amount of money.
If there is no trade, Dallas would try to resign Seguin, no matter the cost.

Or maybe he could get some boost from Radulov and Pacioretty, or even Benn.

Still Amazed
I don't really like that Dallas trade. Klingberg has great contract and was in the TOP5 of offensive d-men in the league. He's just way too important to be traded, especially for a 2C. I get that there's also some other nice pieces in the trade, but they are not sweetening the trade enough in my opinion.
If we were to trade Klingberg, I'd want something really special in exchange, since he's also a special player. 2C, 4C and overpaid third pair D (even with retention) with an unproven winger and draft pick is not enough for a star player.
However, Ryan O'Reilly is interesting player. I'd make a counteroffer as such.
:stars
Ryan O'Reilly
:sabres
Julius Honka
Brett Ritchie
2018 1st round pick (#13th overall)
Rights for Valeri Nichushkin
As far as I'm concerned, Klingberg is untouchable. He can be acquired only with a huge overpayment.
