Thread:
Avs if they kept Stastny and ROR
First, I basically reversed the ROR trade, bringing him and McGinn back, and shipping out the assets gained in that trade: Zadorov, Grigorenko, Compher, and AJ Greer.
I also shipped out Soderberg, because it's a widely accepted theory that he was brought in as a ROR replacement.
After letting Stastny walk, we signed Iginla, so I basically swapped the two.
That leaves us significantly over the cap, so I assumed we would have to cut back on a UFA signing or two, and find a suitor for Brad Stuart's cap hit. That's the ARI trade.
After filling out depth positions with cheap guys in the system or PTOs, we were still a bit over, so I moved Mitchell, as has often been rumored.
That leaves us with about 310k in cap room (which is not reflected here, because I couldn't actually erase Stuart's cap hit).
What do you think? Personally, I'd rather have the current Avs. More depth on the roster and in the system, with a little more financial wiggle room for the future.

Gosh I hope so. Rene is washed up. Gabe is competent if he can stay healthy. I'm happiest if they both get cut and Compher kicks ass in camp.

no chill with Colorado, its playoff time
I like it, except there's not really enough room to sign a 23rd player.
Also, Zadorov will hopefully be starting in the top6 D, for sure.

Avs Duh. 5.0
I like the creativity, but I don't think all these moves actually make the Avs much better. Trouba is great, but with Barrie in the fold, I think unnecessary, especially considering the moves force us to ice Rocco Grimaldi. And put 2 rookies in top9 RW slots. And rely on an aging Iginla on the first line.

No way Roy puts more faith in Bigras and Zadorov than Beauchemin to start the season. Same thing for Compher over Mitchell. Maybe by midseason, maybe.
And I certainly hope Iggy starts a little bit further down the roster. Flip him and Comeau.

Landeskog for Lindholm
Lindholm is an upgrade over Bigras, but Bigras still has potential to be a top4 -- maybe top2 -- dman. I don't know anything about Rackell, but he's probably a pretty significant downgrade from Landeskog. If Rackell has potential to play the second line, I'd say it's a fair deal.
EDIT: just looked up Rackell's stats...perhaps he's better than I anticipated. Good deal for the Avs, I'd be willing to throw in a mid-pick if necessary.

Mitchell isn't old as hell, he's 31. That said, he's not particularly good, though he is a competent bottom 6 guy who can play all three forward positions and sort of hold his own on special teams. I wouldn't mind adding Siemens to this deal if EDM also adds a mid/late round pick or another fringe prospect.

Avs 16-17
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TomRichardsWild</b></div><div><i>what is it that i am missing about Zadorov. i keep seeing people have him as this near top tier Dman. He's is gonna play top d pairing this year? he's never been a + player and never has averaged over 17:42 in a season. Not to mention he played most of the year in the AHL.
I also want him to washout because he was drafted with the wild's draft pick to buffalo. But honestly what am i missing?</i></div></div>
First, and most importantly, he's young. Only 21 years old and has spent significant time in the NHL. Defensemen take much longer to develop than forwards, so the fact that he's seen any NHL time at all (to say nothing of pretty much a full season with BUF) is saying a lot. Second, he's talented. He's got good offensive instincts, a good shot, and is an aggressive hitter. He's raw, but he has a lot of tools. We're talking Rob Blake tools. Third, he's HUGE. 6'5" huge. Size isn't everything, but it's part of the reason he gets compare to Blake and Chara.
Personally, I'm not projecting him as a top pairing defenseman to start next year, but I do believe he has that potential. I'd put him on the 3rd, maybe 2nd, pairing and give him more responsibility as time comes.

Too much for Versteeg, not enough for Barrie, but probably balances out. Also, get Iggy out of the top 9! Switch him and Comeau.

It seems so reasonable! And I'm not convinced MacK is going to get $7M. But we'll see.
Having Holden eat up 1.65M from the press box hurts, so hopefully we can move him for something.

Keep Boedker not Matthias
This doesn'* leave us with enough cap space to sign a 13th forward or an 8th D-man. We're going to have to move Mitchell and/or Holden. And we'll probably want to spend less on Boedker/top6 winger. I also think MacKinnon might commander a little more money.

Pk to the Avs
I'm not in the PK camp. He's a great player and of course you want him on your team, but the cost is going to be too high, and that massive contract will make it hard to build depth, even if he is worth every dollar. That said, I don't think the value of that trade is too far off.

Barrie for 20 games of Eriksson? No thanks. I like Toffoli, but doubt LAK goes for it. Don't like what you did with the D, to say nothing of the fact that Brad Stuart is on LTIR and will probably not be seen again this year.

Not crazy about your line constructions, but Roy will be tinkering all year with that. Keep Old Man Iggy in the bottom 6 with PP time please. Rants will, hopefully, climb his way up the lineup soon enough.
You definitely overpaid for 13th Forward and drastically underpaid Extra Defenseman. ;)</i></div></div>
Whoops! Something got goofed up.
It's supposed to be:
Radulov-MacKinnon-Duchene
Landeskog-Soderberg-Rantanen
Comeau-Grigorenko-Iginla
McLeod-Mitchell-Skille</i></div></div>
Those are lines I can dig.

Minus one star for misspelling "Avs".
Don't think Barrie or MacKinnon are interested in a bridge deal. And I highly doubt the Pens are interested in old man Iggy and a mediocre prospect.
That said, I'd be interested in Hornquist for the Avs.
