DNVR Haggis is Underrated
Behrens is a LD, and Montreal already has Guhle, Romanov and Norlinder on that side, but that’s not to say that all of those players will work out. I’m more inclined to look at the Right side of our defensive depth chart. Mailloux is the only top-end talent on the right side and who knows if he’ll even end up signing or playing.
I would change the trade to include an RD but I think asking for Barron would be a non-starter with Avs fans and management. I don’t really know Kaut so if someone could let me know about what kind of a player he is, upside, etc.
Maybe change the 2nd to a 3rd.
I think the principle of the deal is good with 50% retained on Drouin, but I’m not sure the Habs are ready to trade him just yet with retention. Teams only get to retain on three players. Chiarot is all but gone and Lehkonen less likely but dependent on the deal, will probably both have salary retained plus whoever else they trade.
If Montreal waits until next year, they may get a better deal because Drouin (who will be a pending UFA) might excel under St. Louis and then still have salary retained for extra assets.

Ive tried to read this a few times but it is a mess to say the least.
The habs already have 1 top 6 LW spot locked up between Caufield and Anderson playing together with Suzuki.
They also have Hoffman Lehkonen and Drouin. They arent trading all 3.
They also have pitlick who is producing well and is cheaper against the cap.
Then theres poehling who if another centre comes in (wright getting drafted, someone being brought in through free agency) will probably be moved to LW.
There is no reason for the habs to spend assets to acquire a player in a area we dont need improvement on relative to others.

good for him; he seems to have found a home playing alongside Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz, and he's had a fantastic season. it's pretty difficult for guys like him that didn't seem like they could stick on a lot of NHL lineups, but he's proven himself this year, and he's earned the opportunity to get the contract that he did.

My ideas
So you get the 3 best players in the montreal trades and we take on a bad contract for a late first, a late second, 2 C prospects and an ahl player? I said 3 best (Allen, Chiarot, Lehkonen) but I would not even give you Montembeault alone for a 2nd and Mrazek. Both Lehkonen and Chiarot could fetch a 1st separately and healthy Allen proably gets a good return too so yeah this is way off.

Clutterbuck Giroux Kulak
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tarlam01</b></div><div>Oh no doubts on that. Just feel like a sub 1m Kulak will fetch quite an interest in the league. 30ish 4th rounders will get beaten so if the Avs want him they will probably have to give their 3rd instead just to beat the other teams. Kulak isn't anything flashy but is a solid mobile 6th D on a 3rd pair. Only thing that can play against him is that there are plenty of depth LHD on the market compared to RHD (Lyubushkin kind of return)</div></div>
If the Avs have to pony up a 3rd for Kulak then I think Sakic looks elsewhere, or just offers a lesser prospect as a throw-in with a 4th. Maybe that offer would be beat (especially since it's a 2024 pick) but so be it, there will be plenty of Dmen available and someone will blink at the last second, just like Yzerman with Nemeth and Dorion with Namestnikov (both for 4th's).

Clutterbuck Giroux Kulak
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tarlam01</b></div><div>Half retained will need a 3rd. But yeah no retention = probably a 4th</div></div>
A reasonable comparable is Nemeth who at 50% retained ($3m caphit down to $1.5m) only got a 4th last year. Kulak would require less money and cap retained than that. Not to mention that this is shaping up to be a buyers market. Keep in mind that retention isn't really something special in deadline trades anymore, it's pretty standard practice given that most contenders are at the cap ceiling or into LTIR already.
That said thank you for commenting and offering some feedback. :)

2 Moves I Hate
Value is decent on the Anderson offer but the only problem is that Montreal loves him and won’t move him unless a team severely overpays. He has term left on his deal so they could easily wait till the off-season and get more teams in the mix to drive the bidding war up. Anything from Toronto starts with a 1st and a top prospect because of the rivalry - you’re likely looking at a 1st + Matt Knies as just the starting point, something that’s far too rich for Toronto to consider

Montreal has 12 picks already this year and like 7-10 LHD prospects many better than Hajek. Might as well just go Lundkvist for Lehkonen 1 for 1 and drop all the pussyfooting around offering quantity over quality. If you want Lehkonen you are going to have to convince Montreal to move him. Which means offering something Montreal wants/needs and not just more of the same.

People are forgetting one of the biggest features of Coleman/Goodrow was that they came with an extra year at a very affordable price. Hall was a pending UFA and the Buchnevich trade was just stupid cause everybody and their dog knew he could’ve gotten more, just drury prioritized getting grit in the bottom six. The only way Lehkonen gets traded is if it’s a Coleman/goodrow-esque return. If not they’re perfectly fine holding onto him.

Taylor Hall is useless when he doesn’t score and that year he wasn’t doing anything (nobody wanted him) and Buchnevich was an off season deal that have nothing to do with a TDL deal… Yes it was a steal tho,Lekhonen would never cost a first in the offseason but teams tends to overpay at the TDL especially for a two-way bottom 6 player who’s a 5-tool player (Coleman,Goodrow,Foligno)… So yeah Lekhonen will probably cost at the very least a 1st rounder and if there’s a bidding war then probably a good enough prospect. If nobody pays the price then too bad Montreal would love to keep Lekhy

I really think MTL only deals Lehkonen if a 1st rd pick is involved, or the prospect is a stud.
I like Lehkonen, but I don’t think teams give up a stud for him, so I’ll circle back to my initial thought of the Habs wanting a 1st.
They don’t “have” to trade Lehkonen, because he’s an RFA this summer.

Zucker doesn't fit Montreal's direction at all now, so he's negative value to them outside of perhaps an Armia trade. He can still be used to offset cap in an acquisition, but it's better if you can get value for him elsewhere in a separate trade.
It's probably better to remove Montreal as a destination.
