These returns are wildly unrealistic.
Cut your expectations on your suggested returns in half and they’ll still be overpayments.

Don’t think there’s any way Lazar is being traded by the Devils at this point in time. He’s been amazing for them in that middle six role and probably is playing the best hockey of his career.
I wouldn’t mind having Tuna back however and don’t think Fitzgerald would have to give up more than a late round pick to make that happen.

Take Holtz out and it's closer. There's no valid goalie comparable in the cap era that comes to my mind that'd come close to the return you suggest Flames get for Markström.

Take Hämeenaho out and the Devils might consider given the injuries they’re dealing with in their blue line. Provorov really isn’t a very good defender at the NHL level however and Kekkäläinen trading for him reads like a big mistake to me.

If that pick coming to the Devils is in the top 5 then maybe. Also, you can keep Anderson and his anchor of a contract, he does nothing for the Devils other than setting a bunch of cap space on fire.

As good as Markström is playing this season there is absolutely zero chance that he'd return Mercer if traded.
Between his cap hit, NMC and numerous of very weak seasons behind him I wouldn't want the Devils to go anywhere near this deal.

Like the dude above said, no one rates Stillman.
Didn't I say that I'm buying low on Gourde? This is a major lowball offer, that's the point of the Gourde trade.

Guerin has gotta be the weirdest GM in the league. Not the worst mind you, just the weirdest.
I can never tell what the plan is or the direction he's moving the team in.

Hofer is real good. But maybe Blues would add something here if Armstrong were pursuing this.

That's an insane ask for Markström and so are most of these other suggested trades honestly. Terribly lopsided in Calgary's favour.

Six million in cap space with Dougie finally placed on LTIR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>If it were simply a goaltending problem, we would see a drop in saves on all shots against. Medium and low danger save percentage would drop. Soft goals would be going in…like they did in 2021-22. </div></div>
Not necessarily. Goalies have different levels in ability throughout the entire spectrum of potential scoring chances one may face.
Again, Allen's and Kähkönen's statistical profiles seem to suggest that they'd provide a value add for this Devils team given their relatively higher proficiency in stopping high danger / rush chances against compared to our starting goalie going into this season...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Kinda proving my point though, no? None of those guys are difference makers or 1A goalies.
I think goaltending is probably overstated as our weakness…and puck control out of d-zone is understated as our weakness. Put the same quality chances against on any of those goalies, they’re not going to change much.</div></div>
I think that swapping Vanecek's games out for the rest of the season for any of the guys mentioned above would generate a handful of wins on its own.
In theory I don't see an issue in trading an increase in high danger chances for much less overall volume of scoring chances against, which I believe the Devils have done this year.
But Vanecek is probably the completely wrong goalie to play behind a defence making that type of tradeoff.
Particularly Kähkönen and Allen profile quite perfectly for this Devils team in that regard.
As for the defense, I'm a big believer in what the Devils have in the organization already.
Between Hatakka, Misyul and Vilén I think there's enough talent to keep the Devils alive into the playoffs.
Forward corps is starting to worry me however with the McLeod situation and all.
Think there are a quite a few middle 6 rentals out there that would make a lot of sense.

Giving up on Holtz now would be so short-sighted, he has so much frickin talent in him and it would be such a waste to throw it away on a high-price goalie with limited term (who's having quite a down season).
Holtz will outlast Ruff in New Jersey and from that point onward he'll be free to get the opportunities he (and the team!) needs to succeed.
