Bruins aren't moving Swayman for that, especially if the best asset coming to them is top 7 protected

I'm not sure I understand CBJ, offering trades to Cup Contenders, to exchange roster players for picks and lesser players.

Why would COL send you our 2nd best D, Boston send their 1B G and VGK, send a regular D-man? These 3 teams are fighting for the Cup!
I completely understand how this helps CBJ but it's quite unrealistic for the other teams.

swayman isn't eligible to be traded this season, and if he were, this isn't close to enough. the top team in the east isn't trading their #1 goalie.

The Bruins are at a different stage of their roster. I just don’t see them trading Swayman who fits the timeline with Pasta and McAvoy quite well.

Canes easily pass. Jenner isn’t an upgrade on KK, and the Canes certainly aren’t adding picks to downgrade.

Take Hämeenaho out and the Devils might consider given the injuries they’re dealing with in their blue line. Provorov really isn’t a very good defender at the NHL level however and Kekkäläinen trading for him reads like a big mistake to me.

I just don't see you guys being able to compete long-term... you guys don't have a good prospect pools and you guys don't have a true 1 or 2C

Eventually people will realize that prospect pools as rated by the Athletic is just a subtle grift. While no one was looking, Swayman ended up being a top shelf goalie and Trent Frederic has developed into a solid PF. As Lysell, Poitras, and Lonrei get more time … I’m comfortable that all three will fall under the “we should’ve rated them higher”.

Late firsts and seconds usually don’t end up as stars, but build up prospect ratings. Bad teams remain bad because they think they’ve drafted a star and instead have picked up an average prospect in the top 15.

Thankfully, Boston already has its stars in Pasta, McAvoy, and I assume Swayman going into the future so it is about developing complementary pieces.

While I think there is a big drop off after 3, I also think that the team is drafting for role players in the later rounds and have a pretty good track record of identifying them

I'm not just talking about the Athletic rankings... there's not really the high-end talent in your pool the way there is for other contenders (the Hurricanes, and the Stars come to mind)

"Thankfully, Boston already has its stars in Pasta, McAvoy, and I assume Swayman going into the future so it is about developing complementary pieces."- There are some glaring holes on your roster and I do not see anybody in the prospect pipeline that will fix those issues

To be blunt, I don’t believe there is high end talent in most pools. The reason the same teams are in last place year after year are the players that are supposed to develop into stars don’t have the ability to do so. Every top 10 pick is supposed to develop into the next big thing only to develop into a solid top 9 piece a good portion of the time. How many star potential players do you see in Columbus’s talent pool? I see 1 and a bunch of players not living up to their press clippings at the NHL level. Maybe another can develop into one, but the probability isn’t super high

Finding a star player is hard to do and the Bruins have two of them who are in their mid 20s and likely one on the way if Swayman keeps on playing the way he is.

The Bruins were supposed to regress but are still among the best teams in the league. Why? Because last year was as much about the younger players emerging into bonafide great players as much as it was about Bergeron and Krejci coming back for cheap salaries

"To be blunt, I don’t believe there is high end talent in most pools."- I fervently disagree with you on that point

"Finding a star player is hard to do and the Bruins have two of them who are in their mid 20s and likely one on the way. "- But overall your on-ice metrics are indicative more of a middling team fighting for a wild card (50.09 xGF%, 50.47 SCF%, 48.59 SF%). I'm saying this is a team that isn't going to be competitive for a while because you don't have any more top-6 talent coming down the pipeline to replace Marchand after he inevitability falls off after not having two top-6 centers.

Our goal differential per 60 is second in the league. That’s a sign of great goaltending and some talented players that score above their expected goals for.

It’s funny, I normally rate the quality of an individual player by looking at values above expected. Doing it for a team gets lost in a ton of noise. Performances of a few often outweigh the performances of the aggregate team

You do realize they have the #1 record in the league and won the president’s trophy last year as well. Go ahead an root for your prospect ranking smile

"Our goal differential per 60 is second in the league. That’s a sign of great goaltending and some talented players that score above their expected goals for"- You can't just rely on good goaltending and elite shooting bailing out your inability to control play and lack of pieces needed to go far

When I start to see us struggle, I’ll believe it. Right now, I’ve been hearing Boston is going to regress for a while now and they keep on winning at a high level.

It comes for every franchise eventually or we’d be talking about the Red Wings making the playoffs for the thirty-third straight year. Ask Pens and Caps fans how it feels right now.

With our top 2 being 27 and 26 respectively, I don’t expect it will be as soon as being implied. Crosby and Ovi are 36 and 38 respectively

Oh please a late 1st an AHLer and a 2nd for a top 12 dman in the league. You could make the pick unprotected this year and next and COL still doesn’t do it. But hey thanks for letting COL over pay for Roslivic in the same ACGM. Hilariously bad.

Fair enough but speaking as an Avs fan. That'll be a big fat no from us. We are in the Cup window for the next 3-5 years and we need Toews on the back end WAAAAY more then we need draft picks.
Toews and Makar is in the Top D pairings in the league (Number 1 in my book but I'm biased), so splitting that up would be a HUGE mistake.... unless Bo Byram takes a huge step and Toews takes a HUGE step back...
