My goodness handcuff the Canucks even more why don't you...14M in buried cap and another 3.5M in retained cap
Myers may be bad but not that bad, still a serviceable defencemen. It doesn't make any sense to bury Nielsen plus 2M of Myers then sign 2 UFA d-men when you have one capable Myers.
It would probably make more sense to buy out Holtby.
Beagle may be on LTIR for the entirety of next season
Bury Eriksson and Roussel
Mikey D is not ready for NHL backup duties for another couple years.
Edler will cost more, in the 2-3M range if he decides to re-sign with us

Get the buyouts ready
Dadonov has produced at the same or worse clip as LE's first year with Vancouver and you want to have this grossly overpaid winger for one more year when we can simply ride it out with LE ?
Dadonov plays top 6 minutes in OTT, healthy amount of PP time and has only produced 16 points when he meant to provide some offensive numbers for a young inexperienced team. He's barely in the top 6 in scoring for forwards.
LE is a healthy scratch on most nights but you're getting making the team worse by handcuffing it another 5 million dollars for 22-23. His numbers would be even worse if he's put on the 3rd line.

Buyouts Holtby Expansion Savard Signing
Mikey D is not ready to be a backup in the NHL. He needs more seasoning in the AHL. Canucks need to sign a reliable 1B to support Demko.
You're better off burying Roussel in the minors than to buy him out. It's 100K more and you're not on the hook for the following season.
LE is a difference of 875K, a bottom 6 player could be inserted.
In order for SEA to take Holtby, Canucks will need to give multiple assets. So if they really wanted Jake or Gaudette, both are needed for them to take Holtby.
There is also the scenario where the Canucks can buy out Holtby too.

After Overpaying Pearson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AV77</b></div><div>I have nothing against Pearson but I don't think he would have gotten that in the open market (Dhaliwal today said he spoke to other agents and they agree he should have been under $3,000,000). Even if he did get that in the open market he would be a third liner on a good team and the Canucks could use the Pearson money and a bit more for a good second liner (Toffoli signed for $1,000,000 more).</div></div>
With Petey and Hughes needing to be extended, it was probably the best play for JB. Instead of having to over pay to sign a UFA to term and dollar.
Overcommitting to a UFA (in JB fashion lol) would have caused a tighter situation. He'll definitely feel the need to address our D-core
It's easy to say Toffoli worked out really well for MTL. He was coming off a mediocre season in LAK. Played pretty well for the Canucks.
Looking back at the comments made in the off-season it was sort of a mixed crowd people saying it was a bad signing/good signing by MTL
Pearson's numbers have been pretty **** this season but the entire team has been **** too. Like I mentioned he still brings a lot of intangibles to the table

VAN 2021-22
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PeterForsberg21</b></div><div>I don't think Aquilini will allow the team to bury Eriksson in the minors, Hawks are willing to take bad contracts but will depend on the sweetener, Lind is a good piece they might have interest in. I can see VAN getting a 2nd/3rd, but Benning probably won't move Virtanen if the return is low.</div></div>
Why? He's essentially been buried this entire season.
You're better off burying Roussel. The 4th rounders cancel one another out. I'd rather keep Lind and hope or work out a deal with SEA for them not to select Lind.

After Overpaying Pearson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>Wouldn't say discount - I don't think he turned aside any money. But it certainly isn't an overpay either. I was optimistic for 3x3. I'm not losing sleep over 250k like most everyone else is overreacting to. This is a down year that is parallel to all the other struggling Vancouver players. Not a sign of things to come.</div></div>
I agree I don't know why people are freaking out. He's a reliable and defensively responsible player. If Hoglander stays on that line for next year, he'll learn from Bo and TP.
It could be better than potentially signing a FA for BIG money and longer term.

Pearson is not an overpayment. Is he having a down year, yes. He would have made more or similar to his current contract in FA.
Pearson took a discount because he wanted the NTC. He clearly likes the culture in VAN, hence the reason he took less money

How does this team do with this all Swedish defence
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>Okay. A simple Google search informs the average Jo-Blo that Scandinavia as a region includes Finland and Iceland when used in the broadest sense. Kind of like how Turkey is part of Europe just because a small portion of it is in Europe. And no I am not Scandinavian but thanks for asking</div></div>
That's geographically! Finland is a small small part of the peninsula that makes up the Scandinavian peninsula. When a person says their literally Scandinavian they are literally from Norway, Sweden or Denmark because that's their heritage.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>Depending on the definition. In broad terms Scandinavia includes Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland</div></div>
No it doesn't. Are you Scandinavian? The literal definition of a Scandinavian is somebody of Scandinavian descent. The three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden make up Scandinavia. Scandinavian is a group of North Germanic language consisting of Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic. You're confusing yourself within the peninsula of Scandinavia which incorporates a small portion of Finland.
The OP should have used the term Nordic to be completely accurate.

No its not. Scandinavian is a North Germanic language - Finnish is not.
Geographically, a small part of Finland is part of the peninsula.
