<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flamesfan</b></div><div>I know this is the rumour going around but it makes no sense for Calgary to do they could resign Brodie and that would put Dumba in their bottom pairing. The framework here is close.
That being said, it's still a 2nd pairing D and a 3rd line RW for Monahan.
The 9th overall selection needs to be included or the Flames look elsewhere. It could even be a pick swap, 9th for 19th to go along with the proposed deal. Although, the Flames will push to keep both picks. There would be a very large market for Monahan, if they choose to move him

Flames with Hall No Major Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Treize131</b></div><div>I like the reasoning here; honestly, this would be my ideal scenario. Hall aside, I think this is more or less the kind of off season we can expect unless BT really blows it up.
Was wondering about the call to keep Bennett and trade Ryan? Not criticizing it, just kinda curious. Ryan is a natural centre and seems to have a very big stabilizing influence on the bottom 6.</div></div>
True but Bennett has proven his ability to be a legitimate middle 6 forward 2 years in a row. I love Doc but if we need the space for a big UFA signing I will move him. He's not suited for a 4th line role and Gawdin is ready to take the next step

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flamesfan</b></div><div>I like it but my one suggestion would be to move Lindholm to center and than have the top six hall, Johnny, mony, chucky, lindy, and Dube or mang</div></div>
I would not do that, zero right handed wingers was already a problem this year. Can't have it happen again. IMO Bennett as earned just as much of a top 6 chance as Dube. Maybe more. I also prefer the option of having someone who can take right handed face offs on the first line. Like Giroux, Benn, Marchessault, Schmaltz, Wheeler
In my scenario we also bring in a Coach like Gallant who can re-insert a Rush System into the first line like we had for most of last year

Yeah, despite all the "rumours" I imagine it's going to be a very quiet off-season for the flames.</div></div>
It’s been 5 seasons with the same core, they will do something big. They won’t rebuild, but it will be a different looking top 6 next season.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cgy_flame_fan</b></div><div>shoot, i thought gus looked good on the pp1, u think theyll go after barrie then?</div></div>
I’d use Andersson on the top unit. They haven’t had a one timer option or even just a heavy shot on the PP in years

Seeing if Hall can work without a cap increase
It's hard to assess Bennett's trade value when he's a 4th line center for the style of play during the regular season, but a 1st or 2nd line center when the style of play switches to playoff hockey.
Rangers might ask for a 3rd round pick or a prospect or player with the trade value of a 3rd round pick. Personally I love Bennett and would probably make the trade, but I'd first ask for a 3rd round pick or it's equivalent player or prospect.

Georgiev can get more than that. That's also pretty low for Hall even as a hometown discount. I don't think he's worth double digits, but some idiot GM out there is going to do it. I'd let Gustafsson and Forbort walk, dump Ryan with a pick included, and use that remaining money to give Hall and Georgiev raises and fill out the rest of the roster.

Would either side consider a big deal like this
I'm not sure if the Backlund for Tony part really works for either side. Maybe Janko or Bennett+Kylington+picks for Geo+Strome? Kinda depends how much Strome asks for, Calgary is pushing the cap. Definitely something to be worked out regarding Kylington for Geo if nothing else.

Bleep Bloop
I'd say you're about $1.5M shy on Murray (at minimum) and at least the 3rd round pick over. Pretty close with Mangiapane and Gustafsson.
I can't even begin to explain how much more beneficial to the Flames it would be to have Phillips over Rinaldo in their roster on a nightly basis. Rinaldo is a dead breed and should genuinely consider employment in Europe. Phillips would be at worst the heartbeat of the Flames' #2 power play unit. Best case scenario is that sheltered minutes turns him into a 5v5 production machine out of nowhere similar to Jooris.
Assuming three scratches at no more than $850k each and the extra buck and a half to Murray, the Flames are bang-up against the salary cap with no proper #2C and three right-hand shots throughout their forward core (assumes Phillips). Is there value to be had in this team turning the pair of Bennett and Mangiapane into - at minimum - two right-hand shot forwards? Say, a Kapanen and Jarnkrok? I don't think the cap exists without trading Gaudreau to address the gaping hole at #2C, but if Calgary could acquire some half-assed right wings, pushing Lindholm back to pivot is at least feasible.

Frolik Puljujarvi vs cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Treize131</b></div><div>Going to have to respectfully disagree.
Other GMs know that we're in this situation so Tre does not have much to bargain with at this time. A deal like this is what we can expect and it's also what we might end up needing depending on how long it takes for Valimaki to get back up to speed. Recovery is one thing but players that miss large chunks of time from the season often don't really get back to 100% until the following season. Reilly is a serviceable defenseman with a low cap hit that can perhaps push Kylington and whoever else they bring on via PTO.</div></div>
Good take. A lot of individuals right now don't seem to notice how heavy of a cap crunch there is around the league. Once we get closer to training camps & all of the RFAs are signed & some of the remaining UFAs get signed to low deals, you'll have maybe 4-6 teams with 4-7M in cap space, and then there will be 10+ teams looking at offloading players like Frolik to get all of their guys in.
In a vacuum, Frolik is usually worth more. But under this context this is a very fair deal. CLG drops two rounds in the draft, and in exchange they get a guy that's younger, can play a few games in the top 4, and that's under contract for an extra year. (Which in this case, could be burried in full.)
Montreal does this because that's buying early on a TDL guy, and gives them an option to move him later in the season at retained salary for a team looking to make a push or to keep him as their own rental.

LA MTL Deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>No, he is a left handed that <strong>prefers</strong> to play his opposite side. He knows that he sucks less on the rightside.
You ignoring this fact doesn't make it less true. Don't worry by the amount of trades to MTL on this site, you are not the only one.
Once again. All together. Repeat after me.
BRODIE?is?playing?RIGHT?</div></div>
This is such a ridiculous argument and adding emojis like a twelve year old makes in laughable. If you’re playing on the left with Dougie Hamilton and you have the ability to play on the right with Giordano of course you prefer the right side. That’s your sample size that you’re basing all of it on, one season where he essentially said I would prefer to play on the right side of a Norris pairing or with a guy who doesn’t know which way to face in his own end. Calgary is extremely deep on the left of course he would play on the right. MTL is scary shallow on the left and Brodie would be a top two pairing guy on the left side there.
