<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>It has happened before but just not in the form of a non drafted pick. Florida traded Lawson Crouse to get rid of Bollands contract. Crouse was a top 11 pick just the year previous. Year sure, Arizona gave them a 2nd and a 3rd in return but in a vacuum, that shouldn't get you a lottery picked player back in return. Carolina did the same with the Bickell contract. Canes got Teravainen
(who went 18th overall a couple years prior) with Bickell for only a 2nd and a 3rd back.

I think we can say the Crouse trade isn't working out for Arizona but the Canes trade was a home run!

Regardless it was all to say that if a team like TB had to pay someone a 1st to get rid of Callahan so that they could ensure resigning guys like Point. I don't think that would be the end of the world. It would be a late pick anyway and whats more important. A late 1st or Brayden Point?

I think there just hasn't been the right circumstance for a team to trade a 1st with a cap dump yet but it may be coming eventually. A contract like that of Lucic's may be the first. If Oilers were entrenched in a playoff spot anywhere between 20th-30th, I could fathom them doing a Lucic+1st for a 2nd+3rd or something like that. If there was a player available I was that certain of like Brock Boeser at 23, I would be tempted to do it.</div></div>

Fair play my dude! Good answer. I'll agree that there are some circumstances where it's necessary (Like your Tampa example) but in general, It's a very unlikely scenario. Maybe this is something Oilers need to do to rid themselves of the Lucic contract

Thread: Gostisbehere
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HawaiianPig</b></div><div>I think we overrate Poehling. Has never played more than a 36 game season, and projects to be a 3C at best. A great world juniors doesn't change what he is. Griffin Reinhart also had a great worlds once...

The roster player could be Lekhonen, Juulsen or Mete, sure. I figured Mete would become expendible given that Gost is the same type of player (except he can shoot).</div></div>

It's not about overrating. We know he's not a projected 1C... He's turning into a high end 3C, low end 2C that plays a huge 200-foot game.. so essentially, a more up-side version of Danault. This is a very valuable asset. Other than KK, he's our most ready C prospect, and Suzuki will end up playing RW in the NHL while Domi should probably move back to the wing.

Don't get me wrong, I love Gostisbehere, and would gladly welcome a way to put him into a Habs shirt and although your trade proposal makes sense based on value, I don't think the Habs are ready or should give up that amount futures for him. We could find someone at a slightly lower tier than him for cheaper.

But again, your value was pretty well done. I'm sure other teams can offer a similar package to get this done.
