It’s creative and I think Seattle is going to do deals like that, though I think Graves nets more than that, because teams aren’t going to make the mistakes teams did with Vegas.

I’d see if CBJ would take Graves instead of Timmins. Keeps the Avs under the cap while still giving CBJ a young top 4 dman with term

McCann is Tyson Jost triple the salary.
McCann 0.4ppg, Jost 0.35ppg
McCann CF% 48.9 Jost 48.6
So many stats are comparable. Hell they are listed at basically the same weight. Now why would the Avs want to add a guy they already have cheaper and give up a very useful asset? You like Rust and hate the OP trade, agreed I think it’s bad for PIT, but what you’re suggesting is equally bad for COL.

The Avs have zero need for an almost d prospect and what is essentially a 3x more expensive Tyson Jost. COL will gladly let Seattle take him and recoup cap space than do a deal that doesn’t help them.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChampEddy</b></div><div>Graves has been a healthy scratch. No room for him there. Avs can take the cap space and try to add a goalie or forward.
Bos trade only happens if we get Graves. I would say 3C is bigger need for us than LD
This team is much better from these moves IMO. The team now fits and they have their roles clearly defined. The Pens as they currently stand without these moves have all that pieces (many of which are hurt) but they don`t fit together. It is awkward. They need to tweak it and trades are hard to make right now.
Bos needs LD. They can have Craig Smith play 3C for them. Maybe Studnicka.
Colorado would make this deal. I don`t know if they would want something else or would get a better offer though.</div></div>
He sat one game, after playing atrociously. COL needs defensive depth with the compacted season, and young guys playing. The value of the trade is in the ball park but if COL were to make a move to improve another area why not just use Graves with that team directly?

The only issue I see is you have over $20M in cap space going to BUF and only $10M coming back, there is going to have to be a better balance than that.

Jeff Carter 3C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>That's a fair opinion. He is a bit of a black hole offensively, I won't argue against that.
However, for whatever reason that 2nd line just seems to click with Nichuskin/Kadri/Burakovsky. Analytically they were great last year together as a line.
It's probably a good thing for Burakovsky and Kadri to have a huge physical guy on the line who can handle forechecking and back-checking, it somehow frees up Kadri and Burakovsky to play their more offensive game.</div></div>
Nichushkin is without a doubt an analytics monster. He is a big dude who can skate. But he is as soft as charmin when it comes to physical play because he can’t or won’t engage that portion of his game, that’s why plays just die on his stick.

Rakell and Bonino
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>I disagree. Bonino would make a big difference to our middle 6. Right now Bellemare is effectively our 3C as Compher's line gets less ice time, and even got benched in the last 10 minutes two games ago.
The 4th line has been our 2nd best line at 5v5 in terms of xG/60. Unfortunately they've been unable to finish chances though, but they're at least a net positive in terms of possession which is what you want from your 4th line.
The issue is the 2nd line, with Saad a -7 and Kadri a -6 through 5 games; along with the 3rd line which is anonymous. We have 0 goals at 5v5 from the bottom 3 lines through 5 games (Donskoi's goal was 1 second after the PP expired, and Saad's goal was on a shift with Mackinnon).
A lot of players are clearly in a funk to start the season, but some of these issues go back to last season. We really need a 3C in a big way.
That said, going back to talking trades, I wouldn't trade a 1st for Bonino. Probably the only 3C I would trade a 1st for would be Danault, but the way Montreal are playing he won't be available until he's an UFA, and then we'll get priced out as he wants 2C money.
We are now in our cup window though, and with a huge pile of futures at our disposal it's time to start getting a bit more aggressive than simply sticking to moves like a 4th for Namestnikov, or a 3rd for Brassard.</div></div>
I don’t disagree with being aggressive, but if you are going to be aggressive be aggressive and use those assets to add top 6 talent. Teams that waste top resources on the bottom 6 aren’t long for the roll of contender. If you can’t ease in hone grown talent to populate your bottom 6 with inexpensive talent hopefully like Kaut, Bowers, Kovalenko, Foudy, Mutula then your spending resources to improve an area that is significantly less impactful.

I think Bonino and Rackell are redundant to a point. Compher has been immensely disappointing as has the entire bottom 6 but already being short the next 2 yrs 2nds I wouldn’t be in a rush to trade any 1st rd picks. The one thing that is for certain on CF is fans overvalue players they like.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>I think you're right. Having Mackinnon, Newhook, Byram, Kaut, all up for renewal in the same offseason would be crazy. Not to mention having to replace Compher/Donskoi/Graves if they stay until then.
That said, with Mackinnon's contract window and the impending Makar raise in mind it would be extremely tempting to try to jack the lineup as much as possible this season which is realistically our best shot at the cup.</div></div>
I get the temptation but don’t think this necessarily their best chance, especially with Makar getting better, Byram is going to be a beast, add Newhook next year, and quality depth guys on ELC’s like Bowers, Kaut, Barron and Helleson while dropping guys like PEB, Donskoi, Graves and Compher and the expansion of the cap (w/expansion and a new tv deal) and I wouldn’t be in a hurry to sell off valuable pieces this year.

I’m not trading Byram for anything short of an elite 1C. And given their choice ANA will want Byram because they have a stud young C prospect in Zegras, so it’s a no go.

Minnesota doesn't want Tyson jost who they have to expose like I & others wrote to you this week. Feels like this is the 10th time seeing this post by you this week <a href="/users/Richard88" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Richard88</a></div></div>

It's probably likely that Sakic doesn't burn a year of Newhook's contract, but I'm sure the temptation will be there if he plays well with BC the next few months, just as it was with Makar.</div></div>
Newhook would have to have the kind of season Makar did (Hobey Baker) for the Avs to even remotely consider that, and while I think he’s capable of it I just don’t see how they would burn a year especially knowing then you have to sign MacKinnon and Newhook in the same off season. If they did trade for Rackell I’d just drop him into 3C and not over complicate it.

No. He is a top 7 C in the league. It is premium assets, I’m not even a FLA fan and I can tell you that. Plus a whole season on a sweet contract. Premium package, best prospect, at least 1 first round pick and at least one very good NHL player.
