survive the squeeze
I do like the creativity here though I'd agree with the above two posts. I don't think the Devils trade Holtz in a Girard trade and Evans isn't really a 3C. More a 4C who might be able to play up a bit.
In addition, Olofsson is probably going to Europe next year unless it's a one-way deal. Kovalenko will be in over Olausson. Parise & Cogs are likely done imo. I'd also give Malinski the 3RHD spot over signing Shattenkirk.

Rather than doing all of that to get Evans, a guy that isn't a 3C, I'd try to find someone who needs to bounce back, like Wennberg or Roslovic.

Colton for Dowd
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>I mean if Landy is fully Landy that’s one situation I could see (maybe the only one) where Ritchie plays 3C. I don’t know that Dowd is the right guy stylistically, check his NHL edge stats below 50th percentile in top speed and speed burst, and he is in the 96% for his shooting % (is that driving his numbers and is it sustainable?) especially between 2 speed merchants like Wood and LOC. Colton does look like the guy they could move for salary cap reasons.</div></div>
I remember when the Dowd to COL thing started up initially and decided to read up on him a bit more and he mentioned himself in one interview that he wasn't the fastest guy but that he was playing between two fast guys. I don't think that's too much of an issue if he's used correctly (to his strengths - as a defensive 4C). Just as long as it doesn't end up being RyJo Mk II.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Yeah I agree wholeheartedly, his overall game has definitely improved, but I think it’s legit to ask can he produce away from MacK because MacK can make a lot of guys look good. Maybe he’s willing to take some sort of discount to stay knowing what it’s like playing without him.</div></div>
agreed. Ideally he takes 3x5 or something to stay around here for the winning window and have peace of mind that he isn't going anywhere for the next while. If we could lock up a first line player for 3 mil that would go a long way.

I'm not too concerned about his shooting percentage, as it's his defensive ability that makes him an asset. I can't say I'm not hesitant about the lack of speed, but I tend to think it would still work. If not, he can be flipped pretty easily.
All else equal, I'd rather have Colton. But if moving him allows the team to sign Drouin, I think you have to make that move.
Agree on the importance of having Landy with Ritchie. I think that every acgm I have made with Ritchie as 3C has that same set up, and it's intentional.

Additionally he is in the first PK unit and second PP (for what that is worth). He also one of the most elusive players in the league so his smaller frame isn’t an issue except for clearing the front of the net.
You can’t just have big defenders because you need to be able to match up against the mcdavids of the world. Something that Sammy does well.

its real tough to say for drouin. the guys playing real good with mack but if he's not with mack is he worth 4.5? i think the ceiling we'd pay him is 4 and i don't see too many other teams offering him more than that.

Kovalenko won't be on the top line. Nix the Toffoli signing, put Kovalenko at 3RW, and re-sign Drouin for 1LW and you're in business.

Yeah i agree with above, we might even be able to get drouin for a little under 4 since a lot of his resugence is from mack playing crazy. Also if we're going with annunen for back up this year odds are he will be back up next year as well. and considering woody has 5 more years left we're probily stuck with him, he's been fine for his price tag really, as long as he brings his physicality in playoffs i'd keep him.

1. Rantanen is worth more than that
2. Why would they trade him? The cap space will be 87.5.

Don’t know why everyone wants to trade Manson so they can sign Walker. Is it just the new toy in the closet? Sure he was great in the first couple of games but has come down to earth a bit recently.

Detroit Trade
Would rather keep Manson over signing Walker. We have 3 other players that do what Walker does and only Manson who brings the physicality. Plus Manson is no slouch at getting up the ice to initiate offense. Finding big mean good skating right handed defensive men with decent offensive is hard… I see why Detroit would want him. If the Avs were to sell this deal would be out bid.
2nd and prospect for Colton is about right but a 3rd for Manson is borderline offensive.

How about this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Think about it this way, Bednar loves him, he’s a staple on the pk, is a relentless forechecker, plays up in the line up when needed and has a cap hit of $1.05M. They paid a 3rd for a rental in Duhaime, it would have to be a massive overpay for COL to even have the conversation I think factoring in the role he plays it would take a first round pick for COL to do it. And no I’m not joking.</div></div>
I think a first sounds too much but your logic is sound. It’s at least a second. More importantly he is such a heart and soul guy that played at DU and took a discount in his last contract. Sakic wouldn’t betray his loyalty unless he asked for a trade. If he asked for a trade I’m sure CMac would essentially let him pick where he wants to go and recoup a 3rd round plus.

Funny deal
No reason for either team to do that deal. Colorado can move a different player to fit in Mittelstadt or they would get a better offer for Lehkonen
Hall will have more value to Chicago than taking on Price’s contract would. Worst case is they can move him as a rental at the deadline or just keep him
