It's almost like there should be some kind of test to allow people from making ACGMs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>No but a MacKinnon like leader would help the Sens immensely because the amount of talent and the results just don’t jibe, and they have already changed the GM and coach.</div></div>
They changed the coaching staff on December 18th and the GM on December 31st... The damage was already done at that point. Need a full off-season and training camp to start seeing results. There was a 20 games stretch after January 11th where the Sens had a good record and were top-5 in all metrics. The wheels fell off again but they still do some things much better than any time during DJ Smith's tenure. It was always going to take some time after 7 years of Dorion and 5 seasons of DJ

Fixing Ottawa Maybe Idk anymore
lol that Batherson trade is horrendous. I know Sens goaltending has been the worst in the league this season but giving a top line forward and #2-3 D-man (both 25 y/o) to get a goalie with 1 year left is C.R.A.Z.Y.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Hawks easily decline. 5 pieces and the Hawks don't want any of them.</div></div>
Don't think Murphy has that much value left. Brannstrom has very sexy advanced stats and makes less, cost controlled and younger. Very versatile too
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SociallyHawkward</b></div><div>What a crazy way to look at player values. Ullmark wouldn't fetch half that and there's not a single part of that Murphy trade chicago would actually want.</div></div>

Despite the comments, really fair trade in value. Not sure about team needs though. But personally wouldn't mind it. Would need to sign a RHD on the UFA market then

1. No way I am doing that
I'd rather have Pinto than Mercer
I am not trading Chychrun for a (possible) late 1st + 3rd + 4th
2. I like Vatrano but let's dig into UFA instead of trading assets for a guy without term. Can't afford to waste assets after just having had Dorion as a GM for 7 years. lol
3. Unfortunately, Korpi's contract kills the deal. Nashville would have to be going into a full rebuild to accept that
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Why is NJD adding the 1st?</div></div>

All good but OEL is not the type they need. You have both OEL and Chychrun on RD which is a problem that needs to be fixed already
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>glarson17</b></div><div>A 2nd for a borderline third pair D is wild</div></div>
I can understand the "feeling" but "<em>borderline third pair D</em>" doesn't mean anything. Brannstrom literally has the best D metrics on the team over the last 2 seasons and among the top in the league. He has been crushing his role at times.
I would personally trade Chychrun and keep Brannstrom over a 2nd round pick. The guy is a very nice insurance policy if someone in the Top-4 gets injured, he has played very well when that happened, which also shows that he is a lot more than your "definition"

Batherson
It would be literally stupid to move Batherson's contract. The guy is uber skilled and has produced 66 pts per 82 overall in the last 3 seasons, and that despite this really bad injury from Dell's cheapshot
Even his defensive struggles were exaggerated. The guy is adequate in the right system and used correctly, which is what Jacques Martin has shown
3 more years at 4.975 AAV is too important to keep.

Sorry but look at Ottawa's core players ages... they are not REBUILDING. They have to make several tweaks but the point is not to trade players for futures...
Even if they would, I am sorry but that package is not interesting at all. Cristall has skill but is 5'10. Iorio fit needs better but doesn't have a ton of value

Chychrun for Parayko ok (of course Blues do this if extension) but not Chabot.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>It's not a crazy idea. It;s a horrible idea. Chych is a wildly overrated 2LD with one year to UFA. Hard pass. Chabot is has a terrible contract, barely defends and is injured 35-40% the time. Super mega heeeeeyellll naw.</div></div>
You often make these opinionated statements but do you have anything substantial that shows that Parayko is better? His metrics took a significant nosedive the last 3 years... both Chychrun and Chabot heavily outproduce Parayko year after year so there's that. Curious to read the digs.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Matt1567</b></div><div>as someone who doesn't watch the sens I can't say for certain if chabot doesn't play defense or if chychrun is overrated, but looking at their advanced stats chabot is pretty good defensively, Chychrun is apparently the one who sucks at defense, while Chabot's offensive game has been bad this year. Not saying the numbers are everything but that's all I really have to go off of</div></div>
It's because the average hockey fan doesn't even know what defense is. They still think transition is not part of "defending". Nothing to do but wait another decade for them to catch up on things, like I have always been waiting, it's been for "pace", "advanced stats", "2-way concept" and so many other things

Playoff year 2024-2025
Not a smart trade for Ottawa and doesn't seem to fit both team needs.
Fowler is 5 years older than Chabot, good D-man but also a left D-man and only makes 1.5 AAV less. Chabot is elite at play driving and transition in all zones. Not a good move for Ottawa. They would need to add a Fowler type on the right side though (but younger)
The last thing Ottawa needs is a player with fancy skill. They need more Mathieu Joseph types and you're trading him away here.
Also big no to a Perron signing

From Last to Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RationalHockeyFan</b></div><div>Well, think of the position Chicago is in. Would you trade:
-Your future 1st D (Korchinski),
-An NHL regular with term (Athanasiou),
-Macklin Celebrini (2024 1st),
-33rd OVR (2024 2nd), and
-likely a top 10 pick in 2025
...for just two star players? One of which is a UFA next summer, the other is a UFA right around when Chicago would be good again. Neither of which fit very well age-wise with Bedard's prime years. Chicago knows how to build a dynasty, and making trades like that ain't how you do it.</div></div>
- Athanasiou is a pure cap dump, I wouldn't pick him up on waivers. He's awful outside of his speed.
- Chicago's 1st is not guaranteed to be 1st OA
- Sens don't even need or have a spot for Korchinski (they already have to trade Chychrun), he wouldn't be targeted
Let's say Chychrun gets Korchinski + 2024 2nd round pick (CHI) (+ Athanasiou dump)
It becomes Tkachuk for 2024 1st round pick (CHI) + 2025 1st round pick (TOR) (which would be late)
Not as outrageous as being portrayed in this thread. Ottawa 100% is not making that if the pick is not Celebrini
But 100% agreed that the Hawks should not do this and try to rush their rebuild. Both teams don't and should not do it (Sens only if it's Celibrini and if they could target a piece other than Korchinski)

Signing Giroux was great but the guy wanted to come home, it's heavily related to luck and circumstances
The price paid for DeBrincat was not outrageous but he was not what the Sens needed and it became awful because he didn't want to be there long term and only wanted to go to Detroit
I tried to give Dorion the benefit of the doubt at the beginning thinking he was Melnyk's puppet but then I saw his 2020 offseason, this was literally the worst GM performance I have ever witnessed. We can go into details but this is 18 y/o+ stuff (horror)

1. Does Xhekaj play wing? If not, don't want him on defense

If I am Vegas, Whitecloud is not a contract I'd move. They will look somewhere else to save cap
Sens had the team to be a playoffs team this season, on paper but couldn't afford to go into the offseason with Dorion and in the season with DJ Smith. Dorion signed Korpisalo and re-signed Hamonic. Tarasenko signing was good but also brought Uselesslik
Problem is the team sale only got official in September... so it was another wasted season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Steven_Stamkos</b></div><div>I think Ottawa needs to worry about being in a playoff hunt before even talking about contending for a cup.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Voice_Of_Thruth</b></div><div>All depends on the coach. People keep underestimating the importance of a coach.

Doubt the Sens would do this anyway. But if Dorion was still there, I could totally see things implode. Staios is obviously taking a patient approach. We'll see how much the new people understand the game, but seriously, compared to the last regime... he should easily be a VAST upgrade... my dog had more roster construction acumen than Dorion.
Dorion had the hockey IQ of the average hockey fan, he was seriously building his team by name recognition. That's how he ended up giving up giving a 2nd round for Derek Stepan, or thinking trading Mike Hoffman for Mikkel Boedker wasn't a massive downgrade. He probably took Kubalik from Detroit instead of a 2nd round pick, etc etc.

Thread:
The NHL needs to change these things
1- already addressed by the lottery odds... now that the odds become all equal... don't think we'll see that because the goal of the league is parity
2- offer sheets are such a bad idea... even for rich teams, for smaller markets it's a disaster waiting to happen. If anything, they should discourage these even more
3- This doesn't make sense... Doctors make the call when the player is cleared for contact, they are under the Hippocratic Oath. Then the "get in shape" can vary and be at the team's discretion. It's either they continue like it is or adopt the same cap rules as during the season where you can't go over cap. But the NHLPA might not want to change this. In the end, players decide.
4- the current system is not extremely biased, it's just an advantage for a few teams, maybe have a "cap tax" or something but these are external factors to the league
5- The "play in" you're talking about is more a "Qualifying round", it's not a bad idea but can't see the league changing the 82 games seasons. There's a LOT of factors you and these commentators (usual lack of professionalism) are not considering, like every NHL team NEEDS these home games for revenues, even the ones who'd miss the qualifying rounds
