Is This A Playoff Team
De-accessioning (the NY Metropolitan Museum of Arts' term for selling off unwanted masterpieces) malcontent Pierre-Luc DuBois was the definition of addition by subtraction and certainly a step in the right direction. This team should be a playoff team as long as Scheifele and Hellebuyck play as if their hearts are in it and guys with injury history like Ehlers and Perfetti avoid the LTIR list. (The Jets might not even need that if Iafallo and Vilardi contribute significantly.)

Bad contract for Villardi, need to risk a long term deal at 5-6 million or sign a 2 year bridge deal, can't walk him to UFA status like that

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>If I’m chevy, I personally move helly and scheifele asap and go for a top 10 pick to be that 1c/rd.
Also move guys like Dillon and other pending UFAs who won’t sign for high picks which we can flip at the draft to fill the other needs. Then we can really start competing again in 2 years time.</div></div>
I think you’re right, that haul from la should have us inline to be in the conversation again, when colorado steps back and Dallas takes over in a couple seasons. If like you said, keep selling anyone that isn’t in the cards beyond this season. Even some late elc guys that might not be qualified or on their last legs with the team they were drafted by. It’s nice to see the enthusiasm coming from the guys coming from la and also the last few firsts, would be so nice to build on that and move out any negatives. If I’m scheifeles agent I get him to change his tune rather quick, most money and influence and recognition is staying In Winnipeg, why is it I see hawerchuks career path and scheifele so close together after leaving Winnipeg anyway, start bouncing through multiple teams, but we will see, still a interesting off-season yet.

Long term roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>agreed. I do think that at least one of lambert, lucius, perfetti, or vilardi can be top 6 centres in the NHL. My money is on 2 getting there. However, we may not have a true 1C for a while without schiefele if Lambert doesn't pan out (he's the only one I think has that potential). That's why I would entertain the idea of getting another big top 6 centre and move 3 of those guys to the wings to better balance the lineup.
We so need a buff reincarnation. But realistically, a right handed samberg would do tbh. Someone who is solid in his own end and can also skate.</div></div>
Was kind of hoping they were going to throw a 5x contract at samberg, and turn into a rather large bargain in year 3/4/5, but it is what it is. Your probably right at least 1b should be in house, would be nice to find that 1a that a lot of teams get In top 5 in draft, possibly a similar route to Buffalo and them acquiring tage Thompson type

So want the two goalies to be all ready to be in house just leaving junior, I believe quite possibly there could be a need to completely replace 1a/1b at Center, definitely need the man, the myth, the legend buffy reincarnation

the jets don’t have there own second round pick so if they did OS him it would have to be in the 4.2-6.4 range, i think that if it’s only 1 year you go high to make it as difficult as possible for nyr to match

There’s some value to be placed on the ability to draft, develop, sign and retire a franchise goalie who’s one of the best of his generation. Adds some pedigree to the jets franchise.
That being said, the smart move would be to move him asap for as much as possible. Try and swing some sort of futures deal to a contender.
Jets can then use those futures to trade for a goalie to replace helly or keep them and use them.

i’m hoping (coping) it will be something like 8.5x5, which is still at least a lot of moeny for reasonable term for org that made his career, but for sure too much term would be scary

could you show where you’ve seen that toews wants to play? id take him if that’s the case
honestly schmidt could probably be easily traded at TDL with retention (jets can afford even 50%) to a contender looking for depth instead of paying to dump him. same with stanley, the jets dont have any pressure to dump him and likely can get a return with some other team
i think helle will be kept as a self-rental this season and they’ll take a run at re-signing him. doesnt seem like any team wants to pay what his price would be, in trade or contract.
i mostly agree about scheifele, he might be very motivated in his contract year too. with scheif (and helle), this team will likely make it to at least wildcard again, in which case they won’t be selling him off because they’ll try for a playoff push. without scheif, this team won’t make it to playoffs with that center depth and if they plan on that then they should trade him earlier in the season the better. its a tricky and interesting situation this season for winnipeg. chevy has a decent track record with this stuff so i’ll have my eyes glued to what he does for the next while
