Utilizing Cap Space
Killorn and O'Reilly are not coming to Chicago, they are going to want to go to a team that has a chance to win a cup.
Hawks need to keep their cap space, continue to build through the draft. We got Bedard, now build from there. Suck for another year to get another top pick. Build the prospects up together then sign a big free agent or two once they are ready.
don't over pay now

AZ definitely declines. They are the last team that will be trading away a pick to add over $4m in salary this season.
Agree w/ <a href="/users/Garak" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Garak</a>. Hawks decline. #19 for #14 and Granny is probably as good as it gets for Pens. Not even sure Hawks do that.

CHI likely declines. But, I'm sure CHI and PIT could strike a deal. According to most pick value charts, the Granlund dump alone should easily cost PIT those 5 spots, if not more. There isn't likely to be a whole lot of interest in Puustinen from CHI, and CHI's 2nd is worth quite a bit at 35th overall. It really depends, though. This draft is kind of different in that, there could be a player they think is worth paying this price to move up to 14. It would probably have to be on the draft floor though.

Sabres
Murphy has been on my wish list for awhile because of how good a fit he seems with what the Sabres have/need but that package for him is far steeper than it should be. I know most fans are dismissing Olofsson as this worthless player that will be a cap dump out of desperation but he's a three-time 20+ goal scorer - those don't grow on trees, regardless of mediocre defensive play. Even though he had some expected rough stretches as a rookie, UPL's age and potential also don't qualify yet as bust with no value.
If Buffalo were to add Murphy, he just seems like a tailor-made partner for Power - just like Samuelsson's more physical, defensive-oriented style allows Dahlin more freedom to freewheel offensively, Murphy would provide a similar safety net so Power can advance his offensive contributions more than he was able to last season. Murphy's also a more physical player who would compensate for Power not being that.
In the end, I just don't think the Hawks - despite the publicized scorched earth path they've been on - will deal Murphy; they seem to like him and Jones to be part of their veteran leadership to all of the kids they'll bring in.

Sabres make a run
A rebuilding team trading away picks and prospects for a cap dump in comrie and a 27 year old player with a single year left on his deal is not a win. Olofsson walks in free agency next offseason and the hawks gave up 3 young assets for a year of Olofsson. Pretty bad.

Agreed. Which SJS would never do because they are rebuilding. I think maybe this IS a retaliatory post for the one a CHI fan posted earlier that had SJS sending an unprotected 1st, though. To say, not a chance, pretty much.

Spot on. Plus there is too many D prospects in Hawks system that need to get ice time if there is any hope of developing them. Vlasic would be counterproductive. (The older one, not the younger one).

2023-24 season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>theleano1</b></div><div>Canucks pass we don't view Boeser as a cap dump.</div></div>
Canucks desperately need to get cap space and I think Tocchet won't want to lose Garland, and Myers is a tougher sell until the deadline IMO. OEL is a non-starter for any team in the league; they're stuck with him unless they do a buyout, which their owner will not do. In this proposed deal, Canucks only drop 8 spots, yet pick up a 2nd round pick, which they currently don't have in a great draft, and pick up $6.65M in space. They also get a RD prospect, which they need, who doesn't fit any longer in Chicago. Hawks can stay put at 19 and get their guy anyway, but would take on Boeser's overpay to help make the cap floor and make sure they get who they like at 11.

They're likely going to overpay, whether it's a Compher or a Domi in order to keep the term lower, and to also make sure they hit the cap floor. It also entices these players to leave teams that are Cup contenders.

I doubt DAL will be able to keep him, though. He has earned himself a pretty good pay day that he could easily go out and get if he wanted to. But, maybe some stability/term would be enticing enough to take a discount.

Don’t think Min would agree to that trade. Hate the Buf & Dal trades. Tor & NYI trades need to be tweaked to be attractive enough.

Very generous to the other teams, I'm sure they would all go for it. Just a bit of an overpayment on some of the trades.

I would say no, it doesn't do it. For pick 19 probably need at least another second or farther future 1st. And even then, I doubt it. If CHI get a 3rd later 1st rd pick maybe.

Issue is, Montréal can afford to match that pretty easily. The Rangers are going to have a really, really hard time with this, especially if the Canadiens (or anyone else) go after Laf at the same time

Hawks decline. They won't give up pick #35 to move up from #19 to #11. Also doubt they add that 4th. Not saying Garland has negative value but Hawks aren't paying much if anything to take him. Cap space doesn't come free in this league
