A late first and a late second wouldn’t be enough to make up the gap between Zegras and Leonard imo. Leonard is gonna tear up this league. Zegras comes with a higher cap hit, too.

Caps decline - a second at best for Liljegren, but there’s better options in UFA.

Elvis Is In The Building
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BoringBrianMacLellan</b></div><div>I dunno... I love Elvis' athleticism and always felt like he's been dealt a **** hand in Columbus ever since the Kivleniks incident. I think a change of scenery, and new system, could be huge for him. Plus Elvis' buyout is cheaper than Kuempers (not sure how, but I saw a Jackets fan say that), so if it doesn't work, you could go that route after next season and bring up Stevenson.</div></div>
Lindgren stevenson would be the ideal duo for next season imo.

Montour isn’t the type of guy we want. Not good enough defensively. Walker or Roy are the guys they gotta look at in UFA.

Crazier things have happened. I don’t anticipate anything other than a first round exit but I’d love to be wrong. They need to get hot at the right time.

I’d rather take a chance on Kuemper bouncing back than Korpisalo, especially with the longer term on Korpisalo’s contract.

Caps and probably any other team you offer this trade to decline. No teams will take Sheary on for free.

Noooooooo way. Miro is not available. Especially not for someone whose health is in question like Norris. I like him a lot but the chances of getting a haul like this for him right now are zero.

Skjei and Pesce
Not huge on signing two second pair defensemen to 7 year deals north of 6M. Would rather go after a guy like Walker or Roy in free agency with term closer to 5 years if they’re looking to make a splash on the back end. Jensen definitely needs to go though.
Doubt Oshie hangs up the skates but is possible after his health being so inconsistent this season. I think the internal add of Leonard is enough but Toffoli is interesting at a MUCH lower number than this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jded</b></div><div>Can’t speak to WAS’s needs, but ANA has only Gudas signed beyond this season at RHD. That said I’d love to see them get someone who can reliably play on their top pair like Pesce/Roy. If they swing and miss in FA, I could totally see them considering this (admittedly I haven’t watched Jensen much lately)</div></div>
Jensen had a bad start to the season, was pretty decent for like a month and a half this winter, and now he’s looked like garbage again. He had an amazing season last year and has been pretty solid since the 2021 season, but something is really off this year for him. Possibly age catching up with him.
I’d be intrigued by a Ryan Strome add and I wouldn’t be upset with this trade as is, but I just think the caps should aim higher is all.

three chychrun trades id be happy with
I understand the ask should be high, the caps just shouldn’t give that up. Iorio is probably going to be a middle pair RD who is defensively sound. That’s exactly what they need. Plus that flyers package is better so if there’s a deal to be made there, Ottawa should take it and run imo.

While it would be cool to have both of them, this just doesn’t solve anything for either team. With the emergence of Lapierre and Leonard on his way, the caps don’t have room for a middle 6 forward. A top line forward would be a better target. Anaheim has plenty of young D coming up and surely won’t want Jensen especially given how up and down his season has been.

Yeah I was thinking there’s no way that the isles trade one of their franchise faces for less than a first rounder. I know he’s starting to get up in age but he’s very productive, can play center or wing, and not making an absurd amount of money. That’s exactly what the caps would need.

I love when people do this kind of research. Shesterkin one hurts but the chances that the caps would’ve drafted him there is so slim so I’ll try not to lose sleep over it lol. Plus Walker got an assist on one of the goals in the 2-1 game 6 win against PIT in 2018 so all is well!

if norris is out for the year
As everyone said above, it's just a little bit too much for the caps to pay, but it's not a significant overpay either way imo. It would be more palatable if the caps NEEDED another LD, but I don't think they do. Alexyev has been playing well lately, so hopefully they can run Fehervary Sandin Alexyev on the left and be good. RD will need to be overhauled this summer.

My friend, I don't think you understand the pieces coming back to Ottawa here lol. The caps don't do this, but it's not lopsided either way.
