DeBrusk and Garland are more similar than you might think. I agree that a trade would be more likely though if DeBrusk agrees to an extension below his QO first, which it sounds like he is willing to do.

The biggest positions of need seem to be 1RW and 2C, neither of which will come cheap or have many options available. If I told you the B's could get Connor Garland and Justin Braun for say Jake DeBrusk, a second or third rounder, and another couple mid-round picks or B-level prospects, would you still stand pat? I agree that now doesn't appear to be the time to solve the long-term holes at center and LD1. But I think replacing Clifton at RD3 and swapping out DeBrusk at RW1 would be a huge boost. Maybe add one additional depth player for cheap and I would call that a great deadline.

Broons TDL
1. Zboril is out for the year (torn ACL)
2. Moving Coyle from third line center where he has been stellar makes zero sense
3. Forbort is the Bruins' best penalty killing defenseman and most physical defenseman. He's not being traded right now.
4. Mason Langenbrunner's dad is the Bruins Director of Player Development. Hard to see him being moved lol
5. Clifton, Blidh, and Lazar are not clearing waivers to get to the "taxi squad" aka the AHL
6. That's too much for Domi in my opinion
I wouldn't mind if Gio and Domi ended up in Boston at the deadline, but these trades and the resulting lineup are all wrong.

What I don't understand is why everyone thinks this team goes into full rebuild once Bergeron is gone. A foundation of Pastrnak, Marchand, Hall, McAvoy, and Swayman is too much to ever be at a point of non-contention. The Bruins will need another top 6 C sooner than later, but that does not mean they have to give up their top and mid-range assets to try to win this year because it's hopeless in the future without Bergeron. The Bruins can continue to be a playoff team for years to come. That's what great franchises do. They are always competitive and seldom have to enter a rebuild, which is never a guarantee. Look at Buffalo.</div></div>
Oh I agree. I don't think they're hopeless at all once Bergeron is gone, especially with the likes of Bo Horvat, J.T. Miller, and Ryan O'Reilly hitting free agency in 2023. I just don't want to stand pat while Bergeron is here. I say keep your best assets but be willing to move anything else to fill in the gaps this year.

There is an ocean of possibility between standing pat and making trades that require giving up Lysell, Lohrei, and the 2023 first, my friend. The B's could grab multiple solid assets - rental or term - without touching any of those pieces.

What on earth are you talking about?</div></div>
Both of these things can be true. I don't agree at all that the Bruins are destined for a rebuild but in a salary cap league you also need to draft and develop and Lysell looks like a potential star and Lohrei a lock as a top-four defenseman at a position of need. You don't move either for a rental and I don't think you move Lysell at all. If Lohrei is going, a long-term top-pair LD a la Chychrun needs to be coming back and the rest of the package can't be too extreme. The 2023 first also needs to be reserved for a long-term add.
As for the idea that the B's should stand pat, I completely disagree. The market will settle closer to the deadline and if high prices stick for term players, so be it. There are only so many runs left with Bergeron. Either find some defensive depth and top-six forward to rent for a good price or swing for the fences with a long-term add at LD1, RW1, or C2. Don't be stupid with your most valuable pieces but don't protect them on principal alone. Most importantly, don't do nothing.

I really like Garland and want the Bruins to trade for him. With that said, I would NEVER move Lysell for him. Garland is better than DeBrusk but just comparable enough that the B's might be able to get away with DeBrusk (with a below-QO extension) and decent pick or prospect for Garland.

Think you overvalue here.</div></div>
Just writing off Olson because you don't know anything about him is silly. He's a 20-year-old kid with three NCAA seasons under his belt already having a better season than say Karson Kuhlman ever did at UMD. But sure he doesn't project to be an NHLer you say. I'm including him in a deal for Derrick Brassard, a 34-year-old UFA on a definite seller who has been injured for much of the year. Flyers would absolutely take Olson for him and you yourself already said a 3rd gets Braun.
Beecher is also just 20 with three NCAA seasons and has been buried on the Michigan depth chart and dealt with injuries last year. There is still too much unknown to call him fourth line or bust. I'm not alone in maintaining value on him either. He's still considered a top-five Bruins prospect by most.
I'm no DeBrusk fan, but to call him a detriment is not fair. In a regular top-six role in Detroit, who has the cap space to give him a look, he's probably a 20/40 guy. The Wings only have three forwards with over 30 points right now, one of which is Bertuzzi. They could use DeBrusk.
Think you undervalue here.

Bertuzzi missed almost all of last season due to back surgery. Or did you forget? And I covered my bases with all potential Canadian playoff opponents if you're reading carefully.
I admitted that Larkin was a longshot hence the 1% note. Just saying that it doesn't hurt the Bruins chances of signing him, which is absolutely true even if their current odds are slim to none. Bertuzzi starts with a 1st.
Nobody is taking Debrusk without an extension with a paycut in place unless they are giving up little.</div></div>
I don't follow your logic. "Both are declined pretty quickly" but "3rd might get Braun" in a trade that includes a third? Brassard is not worth that much given his season to say the trade is declined quickly even though Braun, the more valuable piece, is worth the third leaving Olson and Senyshyn for Brassard. Olson is himself a recent third-round pick and the top play-maker on one of the best teams in the NCAA - not exactly "little to no value". Senyshyn is just a throw in as he has requested a trade and Philly can give him a look down the stretch before he's a UFA.
As for the Bertuzzi deal, you all may be right that it's not enough. I think that's very possible. However I also think the vaccine issue hurts his value and the return is being underrated. DeBrusk has already said he's willing to sign an extension below his QO, which makes him more valuable to Detroit. The Wings are no longer in the early stages of a rebuild and could use a player in his prime in return for Bertuzzi. If anyone outside of Boston has a good read on Beecher, it's Detroit who watched him play down the road at Michigan the last three years. He's still considered the Bruins' first or second-best center prospect, which is what the Wings need. I personally believe that Beecher has the physical tools to be a late bloomer in the pros and I didn't give him up easily. Berglund is a tough call because I have not been impressed with his progression, but some prospect pundits still like his potential. If bumping up the pick to a second or conditional first (w/ strict conditions) or "upgrading" Beecher to Steen or Studnicka or Berglund to Ahcan, Mast, or Gallagher gets the job done, I would still make the deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>Kunin's ceiling is bottom-6. No thanks.</div></div>
I agree, but I don't think that rules out a trade. DeBrusk's inconsistent effort makes him a poor fit for top-six OR bottom-six, whereas at least Kunin competes hard and could be a successful bottom-six forward with above average offensive upside in that role. Who knows what the forward corps looks like moving forward, especially in the bottom six with Lazar and Blidh as UFA's this summer and Smith and Nosek as UFA's next summer. If the Bs are certain they can sign Kunin at or below his QO on a two-or-three year deal, I like the add.
With that being said, DeBrusk's value is higher than Kunin's right now and I'm not sure the team would be comfortable sliding Kunin in to that top line role either. So this deal has to include something extra from Nashville - either a pick or prospect - to even out the value and allow the B's to balance their trade capital if they have to send assets elsewhere for a RW1. I personally wouldn't mind adding Alexander Campbell or Ryan Ufko, a couple mid-round college prospects having good seasons.

Only if you love DeBrusk and think he's a reliable option on the top line, which if you actually watch the team you should not believe. Anyone can score with Bergy and Marchand but DeBrusk has been bringing them down lately. DeBrusk wants to go and the Bs should let him. The inconsistent effort is infuriating. Donskoi is a more complete and consistent player, even if he lacks star power. The Bruins were interested in him in 2019 for a reason. Donskoi at a cheap price, another RW option in Appleton, and an upgrade at LD (yet another player the Bruins have previously shown interest in). But ok they're worse.

Use that money elsewhere. With the flat, or flat adjacent cap, there will be plenty of bargains out there.</div></div>
If you keep DeBrusk through the deadline, you lose all your leverage. DeBrusk can wait for the QO deadline for either a cushy fallback deal that the Bruins don't want or else he hits free agency where there will be more suitors and better contract terms given the competition.

The thing is, I think Arizona will want a consolidation of the assets into a more clear and concise tabulation of the assets. So for example, remove 4 things from this deal, and replace them with 1 different thing. whether that be a player, pick, prospect. doesn't matter.
Any time a trade that involves more than 5 different assets going the other way from one team, the value becomes almost murky and too hard to evaluate properly. That's why they are so rare to make but if you are hell bent on making a big splash, try making 3 separate trades for those 3 players. That way its easier to evaluate what each player is costing. Might help sell or dissuade your proposal. As is, its just too many moving parts for one single trade that making it in real life is almost impossible in my opinion.</div></div>
I agree with this 100% and in most cases I wouldn't send eight pieces in a trade. However, Arizona already has no depth and that is with a team filled with expiring contracts. They could use the influx of players and certainly won't mind three high value picks. As for the breakdown, I see it as this:
BOS receives: Jakob Chychrun
ARI receives: 2022 first-round pick, 2023 conditional first-round pick, Jake DeBrusk, Oskar Steen, Connor Clifton (John Moore)
BOS receives: Phil Kessel (UFA), Johan Larsson (UFA)
ARI receives: 2024 conditional first-round pick, Quinn Olson
