Montreal trade for Lucic

I edited the deal, signing Pacioretty to an extention and throwing in byron, who could be a nice fit in Edmonton with the speed he has.

Realistic? Habs retool 2018
You didnt sign Danault, but you still have the cap space for him.
You have too much talent on that fourth line, it's a bit of a waste to see Lehkonen and Hudon there.
My opinion is that those moves doesn't make montreal a cup Containder, but should make them good enough for a playoff spot. Which is not what I think Montréal needs.
They needs picks and prospects.

That move doesn't make him better now.
He's weaker down the middle.

Just look at what you ask for pacioretty in comparaison of what the isl are getting for JT...
If I'm Montréal, Id prefere to keep Lehkonen 2nd Hudon than getting domi at this price.

If lingren vs a 3rd is a joke, well fine.
If your serious, that's just wrong. The guy don't need to pass on waivers, have a decent potential, why ruin it with a third pick...
Give him a year or two more and it's gonna bring you more than a 3rd.
Other than that I like that you didn't under pay Danault li we see a lot here.

Tavares, Kane, and Thornton
I believed that San Jose was in the race for tavares before signing Kane.
Now that he's signed, I don't believe it's gonna happen. They don't really have the cap space to afford him.
Tavares can't sign 8 years in San Jose, and unless taxes are really really low in San Jose, 9M/years won't make it.

I don't see why Detroit would do that.
Larkin is better than Roslovic
Detroit first has more value than Trouba.
Dano and a second doesnt make it as a compensation.
that trade is in favor of Winnipeg, and Detroit needs to rebuild

Alzner could very well bounce back too.
If you really want to get rid of him, just buy him out. It's less of a pain in the ass than being stuck with Ryan.

I really like your draft! Putting it in brackets like that let less space to argumentation of few ranks differences.
Some would argue hugues belongs to the 3rd tier.

The Habs would be a much better team with Ryan in their top 6 than Alzner in their top 4. Habs can still go out and sign a FA centre like stasney. I’m just suggesting this is a move that makes a lot of sense</div></div>
Yeah addition by subtraction. But at this level ure better trading him for a late pick to a team that could need him or trying to reach the salary floor.
I feel you trade a broken leg Vs a lung cancer.
Alzner had a terrible year, as did everyone in Montréal not named gallagher pretty much. But cost way less and is possible to trade. He could very well come back to his normal tenure next season.
Ryan has had the last 2 years under 40pts, just turn 31 and is sign at a 7.25. They can't move him, as trying to include him in a karlsson trade proves.
My take is that it's not a hockey trade that make sens for Montréal.

Players who can play RW:
Byron
Gallagher
Shaw
Galchenyuk
Scherbak
LW:
Pacioretty
Lehkonen
Hudon
Deslaurier
C: nothing really for the top 6 but let's go anyway figuring they don't make a trade and get one
Drouin
Danault
De la rose
Froese
Now, it's true many Wingers get to play on both side, some like shaw and galchenyuk have been use at center sometimes.
But it's not a natural position.
Getting Ryan just add to the problem, too many Wingers capable of playing top6 or top9, but no top 6 center. Litteraly no center! Drouin can help but he's way better on the wing, Danault is best as a third line center.
Anyway, I don't believe Ryan fill a need.

1v1 I guess it make sens value wise, cause of the contract length of Ryan.
But hockey wise, it's a non-sens. Montréal have so many Wingers, and adding an other one would push Lehkonen and Hudon on the fourth line, even if u trade Pacc.
Plus, Montréal have many heavy contract, why add one of the worst in the nhl that won't even fulfill a need.
Value wise, sure.
Hockey wise, no.

I found your trade for Nurse pretty surprising!
you pay quite a lot for getting your hands on those assets, I believe a little too much actually.
But if you put yourself in the Oilers shoes, what they need is defense. wingers and pick... not sure that will do the job. They need a Nurse, they even made they 1st rounder available in return of a solid D.
The price at which you sign Danault surprise me too. I believe he will be sign above the 3M dollars, under Shaw's salary.

The Jackets are working on a new wave of players and need to retain certain key players. Dubi’s contract makes it difficult. This trade works well for both teams.</div></div>
Dallas have 17M free right now, with 2 RD to sign, a backup G and some fowards to add in the mix.
on the left side of their D, they are doing pretty fine with Methot, Lindell and Heinskanen coming up next season.
Dubinsky comes with a bit less than a 18M contract, while Spezza is ufa at the end of the year.
I dont doubt Dubinsky is a proud player, but he's not getting faster, nor younger. theres a reason why you want to send him in dallas in return of Spezza.
Murray only played one full season, and it was in 15-16.
If im the Dallas Stars, i say thanks but no thanks. it would be less costly for them to just buy out Spezza.
They are probably in the Tavares derby too. with Dubinsky in there, its just too costly for them.
and about milano, how do you see him evolve? I didnt see him play much, but he looks like a fish in the water on the PP, moving well, good hands and all. before getting injured, he was producing allright for his first year in the show.
whats your thoughts about him?
