If Trouba doesn't want to sign long term??
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>your last phrase makes zero sense. of course trouba is going to be signed as rfa for the next two years as a jet or traded. it's in 2020 that he eligible to be a ufa, and YES, ufas walk all the time...
just try just try reading what I wrote, instead of making stuff up to appease your venom.
I wrote. "so my logic is valid. come winter 2020 and the jets are on a cup run and trouba is valuable member of the team, yea, he likely doesn't get traded." exactly as I wrote.
in your posts your said let mason and chairot walk in as ufa gee try thinking straight. just because I said ufas walk all the time (factually correct), you think it's hilarious, but when you write it, about mason and chariot...you think you're brilliant.</div></div>
whoa there Clarky.... seems like we are on different wave lengths and likely won't ever see eye on eye (which is fine). But for the record - Chiarot and Mason walking as a UFA is not even in the same ballpark as a player like Trouba walking out the door

with perrault and little traded
not trying to troll ...just curious why Alzner is a target? I agree we'll have to move some salary from our forward core out to make cap room for young guys finishing their ELC's.
I just think that turning Little (2C/3C) and Perrault (middle six frwd) into an aging slow 3rd pairing deal is the wrong move.

Thread:
If Trouba doesn't want to sign long term??
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>sorry if haven't been following pro sports. here's a lesson. what every year there are about 3 UFAs per team....that as July 1 are UFAs. every TDL, teams trade futures to get that one or two upcoming ufas, that will put them over the top for a long playoff run. there are not 80 trades of upcoming ufas, because teams are so desperately crazy to trade all the ufa, before they "walk for nothing". gee, they would likely all be ufas even if they traded so there are always ufas...walking.
so my logic is valid. come winter 2020 and the jets are on a cup run and trouba is valuable member of the team, yea, he likely doesn't get traded.
now my opinion is that trouba's trade value will never be higher than it is now...summer of 2018, and I expect trouba will be traded this summer.
I know of a site like this, so many uninformed think they have to make trades...for trade value. but teams are still trying to win and don't necessarily play GM just to make trades so ufas don't walk for free. for you to think otherwise, now that's hilarious.</div></div>
agree to disagree. Find me ONE instance where a player of Trouba's value and age was allowed to walk out the door as a UFA after his RFA years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>You might have to sweeten that canes deal a little. Little is a cap dump and you want Haydn Fleury but you're going to need to add maybe a mid to late round pick. Nothing above a third but maybe two fouths or a fourth and two fifths. Only because he's a roster player</div></div>
Little is not a cap dump. He's a 30 year old responsible two-way center that has played 1C or 2C his whole career. I understand that now he is in the 3C or 4C hole based on match-ups on the deepest team in the league.
As a 2C he's good for 50-55pts for years to come.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>the sabres trade doesn't solve the cap issue with the jets. risto's term makes him more attractive and ROR age and play makes him a better value. just don't see what's in for the sabres.
if trouba is a valuable member of the jets, you can keep him and if he walks as ufa, why worry. ufas come and go all the time.
myers for gardiner seems fair</div></div>
"UFA's come and go all the time" .....that's hilarious.
So GM's should just be ok with 25 year old #1 D just walking out the door for nothing?

That's alot of UFA money to spend to not address the disaster of a right side of your defense.
Do you really need Van Riemsdyk? would't you be better off spending that money on someone so you can bump Zaitsev and Hainsey down the depth chart?

Hypothetical trade with Jets....
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wojme</b></div><div>Definitely a no from me. A big reason being little is already 30 and the value of players is way off. Risto doesn't need a change of scenery. Not sure where you are getting that form. Risto if anything has a better value than trouba. They are more than likely equal but Trouba will want more money than risto is being paid. Overall buffalo declines.</div></div>
Risto has more value than Trouba? huh.....interesting. If that's your view than I can totally see why this wouldn't. Trouba's underlying number in terms of shot generation and shot suppression were always very good even while the Jets were bad. Same can't be said for Risto.

Thread:
hypothetical trade with Jets (2018 offseason)
1. This hypothetical trade will happen in the offseason. Next years Cap will go up to approx 80 000 000 and you'll have lots of cap space with all your UFA's that you'll let walk. So grammar aside that isn't a concern ;)
2. Theodore is good and improving.....so is Trouba. The argument that Theodore will be as good as Trouba in the long term is a matter of opinion doesn't go me any good to try to convince you otherwise. However, using an argument of how many points they have in the playoffs is crazy....small sample size and defencemen are about so much more than points.
3. I chose Theodore because this type of a trade makes sense for LV because they have two young stud LD (Schmidt and Theodore) and no young stud RD.....seems to make sense for both teams.
4. I like the comment above that if Trouba > Theodore ....then the remaining pieces of the trade need to make up that balance. Definitely possible to tinker with the additional pieces.
Some more ideas

2019 1st rounder < Suzuki

hypothetical trade with Jets (2018 offseason)
Interesting responses....I admit that usually fans overvalue their own players.
1. As I see it Trouba is a stud #1RHD and Gardiner is a above average 2nd pairing LHD (or a below average 1st pairing).....which is why I think there would need to more than just a straight swap (and we'd need assurance he'd resign here)
2. A straight swap of Myers for Gardiner makes a LOT of sense for both teams. Agree?

No dice. I know he's been on a train wreck team and Risto may yet turn it around and have a good career but his first few years are no where close to Trouba's value.
We'd be trading a sure thing for a maybe.....way to risky. I'll tinker with that idea and make a Capfriendly for Buffalo fans. keep your eyes open.

Winnijeg (MTL, VAN, PHI)
Giving up a 1st is WAY WAY too expensive just to get rid one problematic year on Kulikov's contract. We have the cap space to handle it this season and we've seen how you need depth on D. I agree paying Myers and Kulikov that kind of money on 3rd pairing isn't long term sustainable....but we have the space in 2018-19 and then Myers is off the books.
If we need to move Kulikov in the summer of 2019 (only 1 year left on deal) it will be cheaper to unload....maybe we attach a mid round pick of B level prospect.

It's hard I tried
I love your optimism and I know you said you tried but my critique would be.....
1. No way we get Conner and Morrissey at that low a number if we sign them to 8 years. Connor may sign 3-4 years at 4 mill...but if we go to 8 he's not taking less than Ehlers. Morrissey is a top pairing LD on a team with few LD options. 8 years will be north of 5-5.5 mill.
2. Really....Myers for 6 more years? with all that money we already have on the RD? And with Poolman ready to contribute? I like Myers but we have to let him walk and slot in the cheaper Poolman.
3. Love Copp - in todays Cap era you can't pay depth forwards that much and expect to keep your stars. And Copp making more than Lowry?
I like your thoughts regarding a trade with Carolina. I've thought for years our two teams line up perfectly for a trade.
I agree Perrault (as much as I love him) will have to be moved this offseason or the next....need that cap hit to sign younger players.

Would Dallas trade Spezza???
IMO it's way too much to give to get a guy that's been a healthy scratch on a worse team.
I like the thought of finding 3C that can maximize our skilled wingers better than Lowry can. I like the thought of Brassard from Ottawa. A little younger than Spezza and is having a decent year. He has a 5 mill cap hit which comes off the books in summer of 2019 when we need the space before Connor, Laine, and Wheeler are up for payday.
I'd think that Dano , Petan and a 1st would absolutely get Brassard....and we may even get a later pick back.

Mason comes off the books after this year (2018-19) but yeah....if we can move him that's an option. I agree that although I love Perrault he's most likely the guy to go when we have a cap crunch

1. just curious as to why you think Trouba is worth more than 6 mill per season? He is a very solid defensemen who puts up 30-35 pts a season.
2. Laine - you may be right. In fact, I hope you are because that means in the next 2 season he will take major leaps in his all-around game. I love Laine and he is a deadly PP sniper and is an excellent passer but at this point there are far too many holes in his game to get paid much more than 8 mill a season.
of course this is just my opinion ...and that is the beauty of Capfriendly~!
