What a Trade I Am So Impressed With This Front Office

Yes I completely agree with you the market has been weird.
Ilya Mikheyev signed for $4.75M
Dylan Strome signed for $3.5M
Ondrej Palat signed for $6M
Frank Vatrano signed for $3.65M
I can go on but a lot of 3rd line players who are hovering around the 20 goal mark have been signed recently for way more than $2.5M
A very weird market indeed

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>Dadanov isn’t worth a second even with retention. Not the way the forward market has played out this off-season. Trading Hoffman probably costs more given the fact Luke Tuch hasn’t done much at the NCAA level.</div></div>
You realize Dadonov put up nearly identical numbers to Rickard Rakell who just got re-signed for $5,000,000.
Are you sure that Dadonov half retained isn't worth a 2nd to a contending team like Washington?
If a contender can add a 20 goal scoring winger to their 3rd line at a cap hit of $2.5M, seems like a good deal for the price of a late 2nd round pick.

I know the next few years are going to suck and the pain would feel less if we had a home grown talent as the face of the franchise, but we need to stay on track and let this rebuild run it's course if we want to return to the Stanley Cup Finals again. (but hopefully this time win it)

Why are you offering so much for Dubois?
The Habs will be rebuilding for the next 2 seasons and will be bad, and should be adding a top 3 pick next year (hopefully Bedard).
We should not be giving up any of our assets right now but instead stock piling them.
Two years from now Dubois will be a UFA and we can sign him without giving anything up.
Adding him to our team makes no sense right now, we are not close to contending, let Winnipeg hold on to him for us till we are ready to contend.
Dubois will be like Tavares 2.0, he has already stated that he wants to come to Montreal hopefully we don't give him 7x$11M like the Leafs gave Tavares.

I don't follow NJ but from what I have read they are in win now mode and don't want futures for the pick, they want a player who slots into their top 6.
So they want Caufield for the pick, which I wouldn't do.
It's possible you could work out a package that includes Anderson and another piece for the second pick.
According to most scouts Slafkovski is NHL ready so NJ will most likely keep the pick and select him.

The Habs say thanks for pissing off Liljegren with that low ball offer and then O/S him at $1,386,490 (zero compensation)
And some other team does the same thing to you with Sandin
At least put a little effort into resigning these kids to reasonable contracts

Are you sure you want to O/S a player when you are low balling your own RFA's?
I expect Sandin and Lilegren will both receive O/S of higher quality than $1,000,000 and $900,000 from other GMs once the other GMs get wind of your O/S on Sprong.

best draft of all time
Personally I think the Habs would have taken Roslovic if he had of fallen to the Habs at 26th.
But assuming the Habs were still taking a defenseman I would think they would still take Juulsen over Dermott.
Juulsen would have been a very good 3rd pairing right side defenseman possibly a 2nd pairing RD if he hadn't of had his head injury's.
If the Habs had the hindsight to change the past they would have still taken Juulsen, but sat him out that night against Washington where he suffered 2 concussions in the same game.
That game basically destroyed his career. He was progressing very well in our organization until that game.
(Note it wasn't Washington's fault Juulsen was concussed twice, he just had the misfortune of being hit twice by the puck in the face on 2 different shifts)

My off-season approach
Maybe Savard doesn't have much value in your eyes but he will be invaluable to the Habs next year.
With Petry walking out on the team and Weber early end to his career, Savard and Edmundson are extremely valuable to us.
The kids Harris, Barron and Guhle will need to be mentored during our rebuild so Savard and Edmundson roll will be huge for us.
If you want Savard it will take an overpayment since we would have to find a replacement for him and RD that play the right way don't grow on trees.
P.S. good luck re-signing Deangelo for $2,000,000 (45 points in 50 games so far this year) :D

Very probable next season
Guarantee Prediction:
Drouin is going to have a career season next year and score 21 goals and get 44 assists.
The reason he does this is next year is a contract year for him.
Then Hab fans will watch in horror as he gets a brand new 8x$7M extension.
Then Drouin promptly reverts to his old self for the following 8 years of said contract.
Book it!

Put Byron between Hoffman and Gally
I realize we have to gradually bring Edmundson back into the lineup, but I can't wait to see Petry's play improve even more with Edmundson as his partner.

Deadline
I don't think that trade works for the Habs.
The whole point of trading Kulak is to open a spot in our line-up to sign LD Jordan Harris whos NCAA season will end shortly.
Playing Harris this year to burn 1 year off his ELC would probably be required to getting him under contract with us.
So bringing back another LD in Kempný doesn't work.
If you need the cap room the Habs would probably retain half of Kulak's salary which makes his cap hit a very reasonable $925,000 in exchange for a 3rd round pick or a prospect.
Plus wouldn't you guys want to have a player like Kempný around for depth in the play-offs?

Thread:
how could this work in our advantage
A team like Arizona could trade for Weber than pay him $3M next year and use his $7.8M cap hit to reach the cap floor.
That way the owner could use the $4.8M is savings to pay their bills so they don't get evicted next year.
It gets even better after that, the next 2 year Weber will make only $1M (yes 1 million) and his cap will still be $7.8M.
So the owner can use Weber's cap hit to reach the cap floor and put $6.7M towards their bills or he could put it in his pocket.
So no Weber would not help Toronto.
The question is how much would the owners of Arizona give up to be able to put $17.4 million dollars in their pockets over the span of 3 years?

Fast reset part 1
I would not trade Savard and the first overall pick (Wright) for what is currently the 8th and 12th overall picks.
I feel this draft is a weaker draft with a huge drop off in talent after the 5th pick.
We currently only have 1 good center (Suzuki) and I would not pass up the chance to add Wright if we won the lotto.
Savard is a solid 3rd pairing defenseman and perfect for pairing him with 1 of our rookies Norlinder or Guhle.
I also would pass on the Colorado trade as well.
Dvorak is on a team friendly contract and will be a great 3rd line center behind Suzuki and Wright.
Your team as you constructed it has weak center depth, I like Poehling but not as our 2nd line center.
Also Girard would be nice but if Petry is staying he plays better with a steady stay at home defenseman like Edmundson.
I would keep Chiarot instead of getting Girard, Chiarot has build great chemistry playing on Romanov's right side
Our Defense pairings next year could be:
Edmudson-Petry
Romanov-Chiarot
Norlinder or Guhle-Savard
I like the Ranger trade but with Mailloux coming up and Petry, Chiarot and Savard on the right side I don't think we need Lundkvist but it wouldn't hurt to have some insurance in case Mailloux doesn't pan out. I would sooner target Kravtsov to possibly replace Drouin at LW when his contract comes due after next year. Although we also have Farrell and Roy coming up but it wouldn't hurt to have Roy, Farrell, and Kravtsov waiting to take Drouin's spot in the line-up.
Keeping Lehkonen would probably be the best option playing him with Armia they would be able to shelter Wright in his rookie season.
But this whole team created by funnybrothers2 is based on the 3 assumptions that Price will be healthy next year, Petry stays, and we win the draft lotto.
So my comments are based on these 3 things also being true.
However I am unsure about Price's future and I am sure Petry is gone in the offseason and I know we won't get Wright now.

I think without Price the team has no chance of winning anything, so rebuild is not over.
Basically with Price on LTIR we are not making the playoffs
So as much as I would love to add Klingberg it doesn't make sense
I also agree that I doubt Klingberg would want to resign anyways so point is mute.

Just wanted to say that as a Habs fan I agree with these returns you created here.
Good job csick!
Also just wanted to state that the reason why everyone seems to agree that Chiarot gets a 1st is because the Habs will retain half of his salary which puts him at a cap hit of $1.75M which is a cap that almost every cup contender can squeeze into their budget.
