possibility
I remember being real high on Chesley at the draft and I was disappointed when we took Beck instead.
I would be open to this trade because I think Ryan Leonard would still be available at 8th.
He is the guy I feel would work best with Caufield and Suzuki on the top line 2 years down the road from now.
But you are probably right that Hughes might take Reinbacher or Dvorsky 8th OA
If Michkov falls to 5th and Hughes decides he will pass on Michkov, I would want him to trade back and this offer seems fair

Gas Pedal Redo
I think the Habs might be interested in moving Gurianov's RFA rights to Washington for Mantha.
If Mantha stays healthy we can half retain on him and ship him out at the TDL for a 2nd round pick
or
If he exceeds expectation we could extend him and keep him

Fair and Reasonable Shakeup
Habs counter with:
Murray + Boston 1st (28th OA)
for
Habs 3rd (69th OA)
Moving from our 2nd (37th OA) to Boston 1st (28th OA) is not enough incentive to make this trade
Buying out of Murrays contract will cost more than 9 draft slots
Unless someone that Hughes really, really, really wants drops to the 28th spot (ie. Colby Barlow)
Maybe Anaheim gives you Boston's 2nd (60th OA) for Murray and Boston's 1st (28th OA)

Moving Duchene
Wait...
Are you suggesting that Gallagher with $1,000,000 retention + Edmonton's 24th OA pick + your 47th OA pick
is worth Clayton Keller?
So then why wouldn't we trade Gally + Florida's 29th OA pick + our 37th OA pick for Keller?
Besides Arizona wont want to touch Gallaghers contract because of the way it is structured
He will be paid 8 million next year and 9 million the year after that
Arizona is looking for the opposite of Gallagher
They want someone with a 6 million cap hit but with like 4 million in actual salary so they can reach the cap floor but pay out less actual cash

how the draft SHOULD go. MVPA
I doubt the Habs will draft Dvorsky at 5th if Michkov is available
If the Habs are dead set on not taking Michkov
I expect they will trade the 5th to Washington who will select Michkov
They could probably get Washingtons 8th plus Lapierre for the 5th (Michkov)
Then they can take whoever remains from Dvorsky, Leonard, Benson, Moore or Reinbacher at 8th

Why is Durzi who is 24, and a right shot defenseman, who put up 38 points only worth a 4th?
Is he a defensive liability or something?
I don't watch west coast games too often so I don't know much about LA's players

The offense looks good but the defense and goaltending is sub par
This team misses the playoffs again, and if any 2 of the top 6 get hurt for an extended amount of time the season could turn ugly.
That 2024 1st could be a top 5 pick again which would make the PLD trade look awful for a rebuilding team like Montreal

Next year outlook
If the Habs don't move out Edmundson in the offseason I feel that our defense will look like this:
Matheson - Guhle
Edmundson - Barron
Harris - Savard
and Xehkaj
That way Harris can move up to the 2nd pairing if Eddy's back issue flares up again and Xehkaj can slide in with Savard on the 3rd
Matheson and Guhle are our 2 best all around defenseman and would complement each other on the top pairing
Edmundson can play a solid stay at home style defense that would allow Barron to roam more (plus Eddy can protect Barron)
Personally I would prefer a 3rd pair of Xehkaj and Savard (they would give opposing teams the shivers)
But I feel Harris will slot into the line-up ahead of WiFi 😢

Dubois value increased
I guess we will have to wait until 2024-25 and sign him as a UFA to a hometown discount of 7x$8M
Because we will be rebuilding until 2025 anyways
No need for PLD in 2023-24

Suzuki, Dach and Dvorak were held out of practice today
Dvorak left Thursday game so he is most likely the reason Beck has been called up
I expect St.Louis keeps RHP-Belzile-Pezzetta together
So maybe Beck plays with Pitlick and Dadonov on the 4th line

Realistic Deadline Moves
It is a waste of a retention slot (since we only get 3) to use on Drouin or Dadanov for a 5th round pick.
The Habs would be better off being the middle man for another trade and getting a 3rd round pick instead.
For example: If Chicago were to trade Kane to Colorado and Chicago retained half of his cap to bring him down from $10M to $5M we could then also retain half again at $2.5M in exchage for a 3rd to make Kanes cap hit $2.5M for Colorado.
Getting a 3rd round pick is better use of that retention spot than a 5th round pick.
If you want to get rid of Drouin to make room for Richard than waive Drouin and after he passes though waivers send him down to Laval, and bring up Richard.

My main idea is to take a flyer on someone who hasn't been given a chance and maybe they could flourish
I wanted to keep Barron on our farm team in Laval so he could be properly developed
We aren't going to make the playoffs so the Habs can afford to take a chance on a guy who hasn't been given a real chance
We don't have much depth on the right side so I looked at players who seemed under utilized but young enough to possibly break through
Maybe you are right Raddysh probably isn't that guy

Yeah our right side defensive depth is so bad that whomever we claim off waivers may become our #1 RD by the end of the season.
We claimed Pitlick and Montembeault off waivers at the begining of last season and after the trade deadline Montembeault was our starting goalie and Pitlick was playing on our 2nd line and I wish I was exaggerating about that.

But I think since we have this opportunity to have the first pick at waivers that we should pick up a player who could be useful to our team in the future

Yes I completely agree with you the market has been weird.
Ilya Mikheyev signed for $4.75M
Dylan Strome signed for $3.5M
Ondrej Palat signed for $6M
Frank Vatrano signed for $3.65M
I can go on but a lot of 3rd line players who are hovering around the 20 goal mark have been signed recently for way more than $2.5M
A very weird market indeed

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>Dadanov isn’t worth a second even with retention. Not the way the forward market has played out this off-season. Trading Hoffman probably costs more given the fact Luke Tuch hasn’t done much at the NCAA level.</div></div>
You realize Dadonov put up nearly identical numbers to Rickard Rakell who just got re-signed for $5,000,000.
Are you sure that Dadonov half retained isn't worth a 2nd to a contending team like Washington?
If a contender can add a 20 goal scoring winger to their 3rd line at a cap hit of $2.5M, seems like a good deal for the price of a late 2nd round pick.
