Realistic Deadline Moves

Created by: codykaps
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 21, 2022
Published: Nov. 21, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Quick Notes:

- Dadanov and Drouin are not showing they're worth more than depth picks atm
- Seems like Monahan will have some suitors at the deadline this year. He's a quality 3C and somewhat cheap after 50% retained. The devils could use a bottom C for their playoff run and I see SM fitting their team mold.
- Edmundson has another year remaining on his deal so he should be seen as a very valuable steady top 4 Dman. I see EDM as a potential fit behind Nurse. Plus he's cheap enough that they should be able to fit him in at the deadline. Let EDM then figure out their money issues in the offseason.
- Habs have more value trading Hoffman in the offseason with 1yr remaining + retained salary

I don't think Drouin could handle how the Avs would need him to play. Can't hate on the cost

Centers currently on NJD roster

Hughes
Hischier
Mercer
Haula
Sharangovich
Boqvist
McLeod

On any given night, we are already playing three of them on the wing.

Agreed, cost you think of it but the fit is just lot there especially at the expensive of all the avs remaining cap space at the deadline

It is a waste of a retention slot (since we only get 3) to use on Drouin or Dadanov for a 5th round pick.
The Habs would be better off being the middle man for another trade and getting a 3rd round pick instead.
For example: If Chicago were to trade Kane to Colorado and Chicago retained half of his cap to bring him down from $10M to $5M we could then also retain half again at $2.5M in exchage for a 3rd to make Kanes cap hit $2.5M for Colorado.
Getting a 3rd round pick is better use of that retention spot than a 5th round pick.
If you want to get rid of Drouin to make room for Richard than waive Drouin and after he passes though waivers send him down to Laval, and bring up Richard.
