(TOR/WSH) - Sandin for Gustafsson, 1st (BOS)
Why does Gustafsson have so many points ????
My man's on pace for 52 points while making 800k.
Seems like a slight upgrade on Sandin for the playoffs.
Plus a 1st round pick .... I'll take the win on this one.

(BOS/WSH) - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Smith for Hathaway, Orlov
Hathaway for Smith feels like a wash (cap savings aside).
So renting Orlov just cost Boston:
1st rounder
2nd rounder
3rd rounder
5th rounder
I know he's a solid top 4 defenseman.
But NYR paid less for Tarasenko + Mikola.
And TOR paid the same for O'Reilly + Acciari.
Both returns seem far more impactful than Boston's.
Could they not land Chychrun with like one extra 1st?

(OTT/CHI) - Zaitsev + 2023 2nd RD pick + 2026 4th RD pick for future considerations

Quoting: sensonfire

We're heading into a cap crunch next summer where we'll need to sign DeBrincat + Pinto and then fill out the rest of the roster.
Eventually, it adds up to the point where you have to do something.

I'm aware ... but my point is that Ottawa shouldn't be heading into a cap crunch in the middle of a rebuild.
This is the 2nd contract they've had to pay to dump in 12 months ... yet they haven't been near the playoffs in years.
They should still be on the other end of these deals given that the team is still floundering ... if just feels like financial mis-management.
And if DeBrincat gets a $9,000,000 AAV ... Ottawa's cap structure will be more top heavy than Toronto's next year (6 largest cap hits + dead cap).

(OTT/CHI) - Zaitsev + 2023 2nd RD pick + 2026 4th RD pick for future considerations

Quoting: sensonfire

Here's a couple of trades where the cost to make a cap dump was greater than this one for Zaitsev:
1. Patrik Nemeth,
2.5 million x 2 years
8 team no trade list
No signing bonuses
Cost two seconds
2. Zach Kassian
3.2 million x 2 years
No trade protection
No signing bonuses
Cost a second + a third + a drop of three spots to the bottom of the first round
I'm feeling pretty stoked right now!!! :awesome

A non-playoff team in the middle of a rebuild shouldn't have to pay to get rid of a 1 year "cap dump".
How were they even in this position in the first place?

Playoff Team

Quoting: Hammerwise

J You probably have to add something for them to take (what is to them a cap dump) in Kerfoot, like a midlevel prospect like Steeves.

Since the start of last season:
Alex Kerfoot:
115 = Games Played
063 = ES Points (#57 in NHL)
2.74 = ES Points / 60 Mins
0.55 = ES Points / Game
(+28) = Plus / Minus
15:10 = Time on Ice
$3,500,000 = Cap Hit
Ryan O'Rielly:
112 = Games Played
053 = ES Points (#93 in NHL)
2.15 = ES Points / 60 Mins
0.47 = ES Points / Game
(-13) = Plus / Minus
18:50 = Time on Ice
$7,500,000 = Cap Hit
The narrative that Alex Kerfoot is a cap dump is so radically incorrect it's kind of mind blowing.
He kills penalties, gets zero powerplay time, and produces like 1st liner at even strength.
Kerfoot has out produced O'Rielly lately, but O'Rielly is still CLEARLY a better player.
However, the difference between them is no longer a 1st + 2nd + 3rd round pick.
I wouldn't make this trade from the Leafs perspective. Kerfoot's too useful.
Side Note:
Every selling team takes back salary at the trade deadline.
Otherwise, no good team has the cap-space to trade with them.
And expiring deals (Kerfoot, Engvall, Gaudette) are ideal for sellers.
You complain about really weird stuff.

Does anyone know: Why Yzerman let him walk as a 3rd rounder?

Regardless, Yzerman has done well finding young goalies:
