I would imagine the sens pass. I think smith wold be a pretty good add at the expense of a draft pick, but this is a lateral move at best at a time when we need to get better

Rutherford is a lunatic. He'll trade five 1sts for Guentzel if he thinks it gives them a SC. He's not like other GMs so when you make claims like you're in the front office, prepare to be proven wrong with that man. On a side note, Lindholm has sucked all season and will never recover the millions he lost when he refused the contract offer from Conroy over the summer.

There in lies the problem. I’d want Smith at 4 million or less. Maybe could have a 3rd team retain 1-1.5 on him

Poor Syd stuck with Warren Foegele as his linemate. But moves like these will be necessary it seems unless the Pens can go on an unbelievable run here ...

Goalie trade
Sending Campbell was a huge mistake, imo. Before that they just had to convince someone else that he could/would bounce back. Edmonton could credibly say they just didn't have time to wait on him to round into form.
Sending him down showed they are actually done with him, and his play since is killing anyone's belief he will ever bounce back. No-one wants to throw away cash, even if they have the cap space.
Full marks for offering up quality. Someone like the Hawks should be after that kind of deal. They have cash and cap, and the infusion of youth for the blue line makes sense there. For me, Arizona passes. Too much cash over too long a term.

Too early but if they miss the playoffs
The only way I could see that Devils trade going down is if there's a major injury to one of Bahl, Hughes or Siegenthaler where they'd be out for the rest of the season.
I love Marcus Pettersson so if one of those LHDs where out for the season the Devils should 100% do this deal, though maybe try and get some retention from the Penguins as cap would be a bit of an issue.

Olofsson
Interesting idea,
Particularly since u aren’t a fan of either team
As a Sabres fan, I’d be down for this- or any trade that centers around Olofsson (at half price) for Broberg
And if EDM needs to add Foegele (or whoever) to get Cap off their books, that’s fine with me
I like Olofsson, & this leaves a hole on our lineup (scoring winger)- especially with Quinn out for a while
But i think we have enough offense that we’ll be ok
Broberg is a good young talent who could end up being a nice fit with us
The problem here, is if i try to look at this from the Oilers perspective
Idk how they feel about Broberg, but he was drafted pretty high, pretty recently. It would be a surprise to me if they were willing to ship him out for a guy who could end up being a “rental” for them.
Olofsson- especially at less than a $2.5mil Cap hit- is an absolute steal for the Oilers, and he could put up monster stats playing with McDavid &/or Draisaitl.
So for this trade to have a chance of happening….
EDM would have to see Olofsson as a good fit in their top6 & want to sign him to an extension BEFORE this season starts.
Bc once he starts filling the net, he’ll be too expensive to keep.
BUT would they give up Broberg?
My initial thought is that they wouldn’t, in which case i wouldn’t move Olofsson, but I’d be interested to hear why some Oiler fans think here.
Either way, interesting idea.
Nice job coming up with something fresh

Good thought on the Brodie trade. Don't want to lose Brodie but his 5m cap hit really handcuffs the Leafs, as does a possible buyout cap in 24/25.
Yes the Leafs would have to replace Brodie with a lesser player.

More depth
More upside to Accari on Wing as he's extremely physical when battling along the boards creating a lot of space.
Evans has 2 things he's good at in Faceoffs and Good defensive stick positioning .
On Wing his game becomes about speed but he gets crushed on the boards and turns over pucks when they inevitably happens.
Flip Accari and Evans
Accari deserves more minutes and he'll create space for Eller who needs it
Evans gets to continue growing as a defensive faceoff center similar to how Travis Boyd's steadily grew from 4th to 3rd to 2nd line Center.
If someone could teach the kid how to tape his stick he might even become a decent goal scorer(MTL teammates make fun of him a lot for his horrible tape jobs)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fixitf11</b></div><div>Would you rather have Compher at 5.75x5 or Bunting at 5x5?</div></div>
That's actually a very interesting question. I think Bunting is the better player, but Compher gives you the versatility of being able to play center. And one of Crosby or Malkin are probably due for an injury haha. Tough call. If I had to pick I guess I'd go Bunting.

Marner
As an outsider who cares very little about either the Pens or the Leafs, I am intrigued by the idea of Marner to Pittsburgh. I don't care about debating his relative skill vs. Jake Guentzel (I'm not sure why this comparison is controversial, either. Of course Marner is the better player, but his cap hit is also so much higher that his skill advantage is essentially canceled out in terms of value to a team). Marner's got sky-high hockey IQ and is defensively responsible. He feels like an ideal RW for Crosby, even as Crosby hits his late 30s. I don't know Pittsburgh could possible make it work, though. You'd have to make other moves besides jettisoning Rutta and Guentzel, since you're not getting either of those two goalies that cheap.
