Future looking bright
It would take an absurd overpay to pull Eriksson Ek out of Minnesota. He's leading the team in goals, 3rd in points, first over the boards in all situations, 2nd in TOI for forwards (only behind Kaprizov by less than a minute), should be getting Selke attention for years to come, and locked up for term at a relatively low cap hit. This isn't enough IMO.

Minnesota passes. We have Wallstedt slated to come up next season to play with Gus. Bringing in Allen makes no sense and wastes a lot of cap space we don't have.

The cap doesn't work out. Also, Middleton has produced more this year (both goals and assists) while playing defense and has an extra year of term so the value doesn't make sense.

It's updated. He signed a 2 year extension at $4.125 million back in late September.

Minnesota can't afford Jarnkrok. Guerin has also really held onto his early round picks. I doubt Jarnkrok moves the needle enough to get Guerin excited enough to part with a 2nd.

Minnesota Wild selling
There's 2 teams Fleury potentially would accept a trade to and those are Pittsburgh and Montreal. It's not really likely that he'd even want to be traded to either of those teams in the first place. Going to Washington is at about as close to a 0% chance as you could get.

No thanks. This hurts us much more than it helps us long term, possibly even short term considering how much Faber has been able to help keep us from being worse than the Sharks.

Why would the Hawks have an interest in some mid 20s minor leaguer and if all you can get for Mrazek with the way he is playing is a late 3rd round pick, might as well just keep him, especially when you are using up a retention spot. 2nd round pick and Turcotte for a 50% retained Mrazek.
Carolina Trade - not necessary if we don’t trade Mrazek. Also don’t see the Hawks retaining on Dickinson, his deal is not so big that they should have a hard time moving him if they want to.
Minnesota Trade - this is the only one I think has legs and the value seem right for a 50% retained Johnson.</div></div>
Minnesota doesn't have any cap room though. Kind of hard to add $2.5 million in cap when we have less than $10k in actual space and our only LTIR player (Goligoski at $2 million) is going to be back in a couple weeks. Even if he was done for the year, we still wouldn't have the money to make that trade.

Minnesota <em>should </em>(?) take that.
Columbus tells you to get lost and never call our number again. Marchenko is a nonstarter.
MTL probably considers that...assuming they decide they aren't pushing for the playoffs.</div></div>
Fleury would shut that down in a second. If he's getting traded to a Canadian team, it would only be Montreal. The only other place I could see him waiving his NMC for is Pittsburgh.

Minny fans whats your take
Right now, we're running a 5F PP. If that fails, we may see Faber get a look on the PP, but it's hard to say for sure. He's been so good at 5 on 5 and PK, I kind of doubt we overload him and give him PP1 as well. Have to remember that the NHL schedule is a marathon, not a sprint, and we don't want to burn him out by giving him too much responsibility as a rookie. He's already leading the team in ATOI which is kind of insane.
I really don't think Faber will be moved down the lineup though when Spurgeon comes back. He'll stick with Brodin, Spurgeon will slot back in with Middelton, Mermis will take over 3LD, and Hunt will return to Iowa.

Faber is actually leading our team in ATOI right now. Faber isn't just sticking in the top 4 because he has no depth behind him. He's actually been really damn good. It's a bit early to say, but I think that, realistically, Faber has solidified himself and Brodin as the top pair and when Spurgeon comes back in the next week or so he'll be firmly getting 2nd pair minutes with Middleton.

Same with Minnesota. We were right up to the cap when Spurgeon and Goligoski got hurt. As soon as they're back (both expected back in the next month or so), we would be over the cap by about $5 million.

Given the option of maybe 2 months of Teuvo or 6 years of team control for Khusnutdinov and a 2nd, there's no chance I'd pick Teuvo. Khusnutdinov has made it clear that he will be here next year. If he can even somewhat translate his KHL success from last year, he will be incredibly valuable for us and worth much more than a mid-tier rental like Teuvo.

Yeah, but the 5 players we need to sign are our 4th line, 6th and 7th D, and backup goalie. Wallstedt is likely taking the backup role eating up less than a million. That's $11.5 million to full out some depth. It'll be a cake walk compared to probably any of the last 5 years.

What, you don't think Mittelstadt's 15 goals and 59 points in his first ever healthy season is worth what is effectively 2 firsts? Did you even consider that he is both from Minnesota AND went to the U of M? That clearly more than doubles his trade value.

The cap doesn't work for Minnesota in that trade. We have about $6 million left to re-sign all 3 of Gustavsson, Duhaime, and Addison with 2 of them having elected to go to arbitration. We can't be adding nearly $4 million in extra cap in a trade. Next year we will still have no money. We can't add a big contract until summer 2025 when our cap hell ends and we have money to spend.

Qualify Retain Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Yeah that's fine 8.5 is doable. Also I don't think you understand this scenario. This is basically a 9 year deal, not a one year deal. Jets sign him for this year at his qualifying offer, trade him at 50% to the wild since they are cap strapped. He then instantly signs an extension for 8 years at whatever dollar amount. The dollar amount isn't important. Obviously in a deal like this all the details are made before the trade.
Also how does this offer not get PLD? Promising young RHD prospect, which they need, a 1st a 2nd and Foligno. That's a better offer than most that have been acceptable from Montreal.</div></div>
You couldn't do that. Players on 1 year contracts can't instantly sign extensions. They are ineligible to sign new contracts until after January 1st. If this was the last year of a multiyear contract, he could sign earlier, but on a 1 year contract, he would have to wait until midseason.

There's no scenario in which I ever see us dealing Yurov and our 2023 1st for Boeser. Even if we could afford Boeser's cap hit (which we can't), the value is nowhere close to even in that trade.
