Super Unrealistic but would be fun
Minnesota would need more value than that to give up a year + of Middleton on a cheap contract. A rental, an underwhelming prospect, and 2 late round picks don't get it done. When you add Maroon into the mix, it's even worse. While he won't get a ton, we could possibly get the 4th and 7th for him alone from someone near the deadline.

Rossi, meanwhile, likely gets the JEE amount. But on a bridge deal instead of the max length contract.</div></div>
I was doing some mental math on Faber's contract. If he does get 8 years in that range, I hope he gets $8.625 million for the AAV. If we're throwing around big money, might as well have fun with it and make it $69 million.

He doesn't, the Wild still control where he goes"
MAF has a 2.95 gaa and a .897s%. Wild also traded Bogosian for a 7th? Addison for a 5th? Yeah BRAINDEAD take to think the WILD would take a LATE ROUND PICK for a diminishing talent especially one that has been playing like hot trash. Real question is WTF would the Avs want him. If a team is willing to give you positive value you should accept. the most idiotic take is "Fleury has more value to the Wild franchise for 2 months- on-ice, in the locker room, fan sentiment and good will, merchandise sales, etc- than a 5th rounder who turns into nothing would" thats laughable. Yeah its been a real wining culture with him there huh? Really been a game changer while helping Gustavsson improve his game.... hes never looked better. what an intelligent take... so smart. you should keep him around and get nothing for him lol what a locker room guy</div></div>
Couple things.
First, we traded for Bogo so you have that completely wrong. In the Addison deal, we also got a player back and cap space we desperately needed before Spurgeon went on LTIR. So you're wrong there too. Also, if we waited on trading Addison until later in the season when trade values inflate, we would have gotten a better return. We valued getting someone with a bit of an attitude problem that was eating up valuable cap space out of the room more than we valued holding out for a higher pick.
Second, when we traded for Flower 2 years ago, his GAA was the same and his save percentage was only 1% better (aka about 1 goal every 3 games). There were multiple teams offering a 2nd for him. He should get more than a 5th. Ben Meyers just evens out the contracts (which isn't a concern on either side right now). He doesn't provide any added value to the deal. The Minnesota connection means nothing.

Flyers Offseason
Minnesota says no. We aren't in a position to give up that kind of capital for less than 2 years of a player. Our top 6 is pretty well set at the moment and we're expecting 3 of our top prospects in Khusnutdinov, Ohgren, and Yurov to be joining between now and the end of next season. Last year they were ranked as our number 3 (Ohgren), 4 (Yurov), and 7 (Khusnutdinov) prospects by Scott Wheeler. If you remove Marco Rossi and Brock Faber who are now full time NHLers, they move up to 2, 3, and 5 on that list.
Not saying Konecny is old, but with our timeline, we'd much rather have a promising player who just turned 20 as opposed to a guy who is about to turn 27 and would likely be gone before we have a chance to compete.

Minnesota can't afford that from a cap perspective. He'd eat up the majority of our available cap space for next year. If we're adding a defenseman with term, it won't be someone with such a large contract without future money also going the other direction.

(PIT/MIN) - Butcher for Cajkovic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KSIxSKULLS</b></div><div>Pittsburgh likely gets NHL Games while Minnesota doesn't.</div></div>
Cajkovic has spent the majority of his time in the ECHL in all 3 years of his ELC with the last 2 years significantly leaning toward ECHL vs AHL. It's doubtful he sees the NHL when he can't even be a consistent player in the AHL. Definitely speaks volumes that while our AHL team has been picked clean by injuries in both the NHL and AHL this year, he still has barely seen the ice in Des Moines.
I'm not saying Butcher will play here at all, but to say it's likely Cajkovic plays NHL games is strictly playing the age game without considering how he's actually played so far in his career.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sabresguy1987</b></div><div>home town boy, bring him home</div></div>
That is legit the dumbest reason for a trade and one of the things I hate about this place. Every team tries to offload someone on Minnesota and their logic is that they are from here or played in the state at some point. Just for players born in the state, not including those who moved here as a child or played at Shattuck or in one of the D1 colleges (we have 6), we have more active NHLers than Finland and just 6 fewer than Russia. Extrapolating the list to add in those who played at some level in the state here at some point would put us firmly behind the Canada and the rest of the US for 3rd largest producer of NHL talent in the world. Thankfully, Gurein has made it clear that he isn't trying to make some sort of Minnesota all star team here and so someone's Minnesota residency status isn't viewed as a plus in trade discussions.
In other words, your logic is bad and you should feel bad.

I just found an Athletic article from last deadline and it looks like I was wrong, retention must be done through the entirety of the term they're under contract, not just the active contract. I knew that retention needed to be an equal % across all years of the contract, but wasn't sure if that included if there was an extension. I must have been remembering some speculation from before they got clarification from the league since signing a long term extension then immediately trading the player with money retained hasn't happened in the cap era as far as I know.

Return of The Tank
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooster</b></div><div>From the Athletic and Daily Faceoff articles, it seems that Minny is indeed looking at doing deals: “ As reported by The Athletic’s Michael Russo and Joe Smith last week, Wild GM Bill Guerin doesn’t intend to roll over after losing captain Jared Spurgeon to season-ending hip and back surgery.”
Agreed that there needs to be some sort of draft protection as I mentioned in my trade. But I think Minny could be an option here.</div></div>
Read the article and not the headline if you want to see what Russo is talking about. He specifically says Guerin isn't willing to give up significant assets in a trade. That means no first round pick, likely no second round pick, and probably none of our top prospects (Lambos is our top D prospect with Faber as a full time NHLer). We're likely going after someone who can be had with something like a 4th round pick and won't cause significant cap issues next season like adding $4.6 million when we have $10.8 million to spend on 3 forwards, 2 defensemen, any healthy scratches, and an injury buffer. Adding Chychrun would make us spend $880k or less on 6 players plus 1 extra call up. That's far too tight for my liking after the insanity that was this season before Spurgeon was declared out for the year.

I think you actually can. I just tried it in a fresh armchair GM and it only retained on the active contract, not the extension. This was a topic of conversation last season when their were JT Miller trade talks. I don't feel like looking up articles right now, but I definitely remember writers mentioning this when talking about potential landing spots.

What is 1 reason the Wild would do this that doesn't include "he's from Minnesota"? A year+ of Middleton is worth more than a few months of Forbort and a late 4th (basically early 5th) plus Middleton is cheaper which we need with nearly $15 million in dead money on the books.

Pinto is cheaper, but Eriksson Ek is on a steal of a contract. If we need to cut money, Eriksson Ek should be one of the last places to look.

Middleton also gives us some size. Merrill hasn't been good so having Brodin and Faber being the "big" defensemen who can play every night would be a major problem.

It would take an absurd overpay to pull Eriksson Ek out of Minnesota. He's leading the team in goals, 3rd in points, first over the boards in all situations, 2nd in TOI for forwards (only behind Kaprizov by less than a minute), should be getting Selke attention for years to come, and locked up for term at a relatively low cap hit. This isn't enough IMO.
