Kypreos Deadline
Minnesota would rather have a pick than a UFA tweener for Maroon. Swapping him for McMann just makes us worse with no benefit. We'd be better off just hanging onto Maroon if that is the best you could offer.

That's understandable. Like I said, I think that will be Guerin's ask if we're retaining 50% and the market may make that a reality. Personally, I wouldn't want to pay that if I was another team and I wouldn't have been happy with us paying that in 2022 if we didn't have 3 picks in the 2nd round that year. I've always been of the belief that Fleury playoff performances have been overhyped (of his 3 cups, he lost the starting job for 2 of the runs).

If I had to guess, with retention, Guerin would be looking for a 2nd. While Fleury's number's aren't amazing, his value will likely be inflated a bit by a seller's market. That's what we paid to get him and I'm guessing Guerin would push to get in return. Since you guys don't have a 2nd until 2026, maybe he'd take a 3rd and a later pick (5th?). Possibly a 3rd and a warm body backup goalie just so we aren't forced to call up Wallstedt this season.
I'm honestly not too knowledgeable about your prospects to know if there's anyone in there that they'd target.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SirRobo</b></div><div>Robertsons on a rookie contract so you’re getting value there too. Plus he’s under team control for longer. Marcus Johansson should be demoted to the fourth line, then you plug your young skilled tenacious winger into your top 6 and add more fire power to your offence. Robertsons ceiling could be a ppg.</div></div>
This is the last year of his ELC so his cost will be going up. The $14.74 million in dead cap extends beyond this season into next season. If we ship out Middleton, we're going to have to find someone else to fill his 20 minutes per night which is likely going to be a lot more expensive than $2.45 million. We have $11 million to work with and only 16 players signed for next season. If Spurgeon isn't quite ready for the start of the season, that makes the money even tighter.
Trading Middleton for Robertson also takes out a defenseman with size (which we lack) for an undersized forward (which we have a bunch of right now). Actually, depending on how you look at it, Robertson would be the 2nd or 3rd smallest player on the team. Between Kaprizov, Rossi, and Zuccarello, we already have enough 5'10" or under forwards in the top 6. If history is anything to go by, making 2/3 of the top 6 be that small isn't exactly a recipe for success, especially since we are also losing size on the back end in the deal.

Personally, I don't see the appeal of Mittelstadt especially if he wants a Boldy level contract next season. Sure, this trade would free up some money to be able to afford that, but we have other areas we could better use that cap space than dumping it into Mittelstadt. We're already adding potential NHL centers in Khusnutdinov (this spring) and Yurov (either this summer or next) so Mittelstadt becomes a redundant asset, and an expensive one at that, real quick.
Also, Spurgeon would block this with his NMC and Foligno might shut it down too, based on the fact that he just signed a 4 year extension here. I know Moose was born there and spent the first part of his career there, but if he wanted to go back to Buffalo, he could have waited until this summer and signed there instead of signing an extension in Minnesota. Either way, the deal probably dies there.

We've gotten more offensive production (and good defense) out of Middleton this year, than the Leafs have gotten out of Robertson, their winger. Why would we trade them straight up when Middleton has another year left on a good, cheap contract that will be needed for the last year of the insane dead money? I also don't even see where he'd fit into our lineup. Makes zero sense.

Meyers does nothing for Minnesota. We already have basically the same player in Sammy Walker and he isn't getting NHL time even when we're destroyed by injuries. If you're offering a pick and a prospect, we'd rather have either another prospect or have you just drop the prospect and improve the pick accordingly.

Can you please explain why a soon to be 24 year old former 6th round pick that has less than a full season of NHL experience and is playing in Switzerland is somehow worth a 3rd round pick and a 3 year deal with a $2 million AAV? Is this some sort of lame troll attempt or am I somehow missing something here?

Minnesota passes. We are still in a major cap crunch next year so any cap space we can save is beneficial. We can get the same/similar production at the bottom of the lineup out of younger/cheaper players.

Nothing Crazy
We passed on Reaves for a reason. Reaves is a negative asset and Villeneuve doesn't do much for us as a prospect so he doesn't balance out Reaves IMO. The first is good, but I think having Reaves in there tanks the deal. It's going to take a lot to pry Middleton away from us so having a fairly long term negative asset/cap dump in there when we are firmly in cap hell means you need to improve the rest of the value by more than just throwing in a 4th round pick from nearly 4 years ago who hasn't yet seen the NHL even once.

1. We aren't trading out of the top 10 when we've only been there 8 times ever and twice since 2011. While this isn't an amazing draft, we'll get a much better chance to improve our pipeline in the top 10 than we will with Winnipeg's pick. We need that high draft pick.
2. We can't take that type of money on next year. That's nearly half our cap space with just 14 players on the roster. The only reason we can function this year is because Spurgeon is on LTIR.

What do you mean "clearing space for Wallstedt"? We have no intention of playing him in the NHL this year. The plan has always been to keep him in Iowa this season. Fleury playing out the last year of his contract doesn't block Wallstedt at all. Actually, moving out Fleury means we need to bring in another backup to allow us to stick to our plan with Wallstedt.

Do you realize that Dumba is 6'0", 180 lb? I've watched far too many games involving him over the years. His big hits usually involve him ending up on his ass completely out of the play. He can't clear bodies and isn't great battling for the puck.

Super Unrealistic but would be fun
Minnesota would need more value than that to give up a year + of Middleton on a cheap contract. A rental, an underwhelming prospect, and 2 late round picks don't get it done. When you add Maroon into the mix, it's even worse. While he won't get a ton, we could possibly get the 4th and 7th for him alone from someone near the deadline.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazWild</b></div><div>Faber is very likely to get even more than that. Jake Sanderson got $8.3Mx8, and that's Faber's closest comparable. It's incredibly likely he gets more than Sanderson too. So, let's say $8.3-8.7M on a max length contract.
Rossi, meanwhile, likely gets the JEE amount. But on a bridge deal instead of the max length contract.</div></div>
I was doing some mental math on Faber's contract. If he does get 8 years in that range, I hope he gets $8.625 million for the AAV. If we're throwing around big money, might as well have fun with it and make it $69 million.

He doesn't, the Wild still control where he goes"
MAF has a 2.95 gaa and a .897s%. Wild also traded Bogosian for a 7th? Addison for a 5th? Yeah BRAINDEAD take to think the WILD would take a LATE ROUND PICK for a diminishing talent especially one that has been playing like hot trash. Real question is WTF would the Avs want him. If a team is willing to give you positive value you should accept. the most idiotic take is "Fleury has more value to the Wild franchise for 2 months- on-ice, in the locker room, fan sentiment and good will, merchandise sales, etc- than a 5th rounder who turns into nothing would" thats laughable. Yeah its been a real wining culture with him there huh? Really been a game changer while helping Gustavsson improve his game.... hes never looked better. what an intelligent take... so smart. you should keep him around and get nothing for him lol what a locker room guy</div></div>
Couple things.
First, we traded for Bogo so you have that completely wrong. In the Addison deal, we also got a player back and cap space we desperately needed before Spurgeon went on LTIR. So you're wrong there too. Also, if we waited on trading Addison until later in the season when trade values inflate, we would have gotten a better return. We valued getting someone with a bit of an attitude problem that was eating up valuable cap space out of the room more than we valued holding out for a higher pick.
Second, when we traded for Flower 2 years ago, his GAA was the same and his save percentage was only 1% better (aka about 1 goal every 3 games). There were multiple teams offering a 2nd for him. He should get more than a 5th. Ben Meyers just evens out the contracts (which isn't a concern on either side right now). He doesn't provide any added value to the deal. The Minnesota connection means nothing.
