I don’t know which one I want more! While Celebrini would be awesome because it gives the sharks a powerful 1-2 punch down the middle with smith and a terrific 1-4 with Celebrini Smith Bordeleau and Bystedt and that’s not even taking into account Eklund Hertl or Couture who all can play wing or C. Levshunov is acturally a bigger need as an offensive 2 way RD with good size! So a big part of me is leaning Levshunov over Macklin but in all honesty it’s easier to find top 4 D in the middle of the 1st than it is to find a 1C! I’m torn I guess in the end I’ll be happy with either one.

It's clear we won't improve fast enough from within.</div></div>
My feeling looking at the prospect pool and what we have in the system already the FA focus needs to be top pair RD, top line RW and starting Goalie. The rest of this lineup can be taken care of through our prospect pool and the 24 draft. But with the cap space if we play it smart those positions should be easy to fill without hurting our long term cap situation that will finally be better come next year.

Red Wings aren't retaining 2 years of Maatta. Mike Grier isn't Red Wings GM. Maatta will get a 2nd at the trade deadline if Detroit is out of the playoff picture. But I think they'll be right in it.

Havelid looks amazing but is 2 feet tall. I just can't recall seeing that many puck moving dmen in the league that are that small. I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Maybe a #4.
We need a #1 puck moving dman. Likely grabbing one in the next draft I'm guessing. I think we're good at forward imo.
Thrun is legit and I can see him growing to be a #2 guy alongside a #1 RHD.</div></div>
Idk I'm very high on Shakir. I'm excited for training camp to see some of these guys mixed in with full time NHLers.
Also CapFriendly I don't think updates prospect's physical data until they actually are NHLers. I noticed this yesterday when they had Gushchin an inch shorter and about 15-20 pounds less than his Elite Prospects. Havelid is the same, he's listed an inch shorter and around 10 lbs less here.
I really like Pohlkhamp and Cagnoni though. They're not super big either but they must be tanks. Pohlkamp is 5'10, 205 lbs. Cagnoni is 5'9" 182 lbs. There's supposed to be some really good d-men in the mid-First area of this next draft so they should be getting someone good if they get a Center in the top 3 and then maybe move up a few spots from the Pitt/NJ 1st

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goodfella</b></div><div>That's why Barb gets a 2nd though. Low cap hit.</div></div>
Barbie already has a low cap hit, so I'd use retention on someone with a higher cap hit to make it low. He's already worth a 2nd, maybe even a late 1st depending on how this season goes. If retention on him is the difference between a 2nd and a 1st then yeah, i'd use it on him, but likely not the case.

Sharks Opening Day Roster
Vlasic has a NMC which means in addition to not being able to be traded, he also can't be sent to the minors. He also had a good season with Benning. He'll be in the lineup until the young guys REALLY show that they're able to be full time NHLers.
I don't think they'll buy him out unless the team is competitive faster than anticipated (like Seattle or Minnesota from a couple years back) and need to re-sign guys to bigger contracts

San Jose saved net $20M in cash/cap and only got late a 1st round pick for Karlsson, the reigning Norris trophy winner.
In this trade, San Jose saves over $55M in cash, gives up a worse player, and somehow gets a 1st, Podkolzin, and Klimovich? Please.
A fair Hertl trade would be something like Boeser + Garland for Hertl straight up.</div></div>

Dark horse Karlsson
If you're adding Barabanov at 50% retained you best be adding Stanky boy. He's a top six guy for a 1.25 cap hit. He'd easily get a 1st by himself with no retention, and the EK return isn't all that great for the Sharks even if you took Barabanov out.
Maybe if you removed the retention on him and made the EK retention 3.5, and then switched out Bourque for Stankoven Sharks would say yes.

only way to get rid of Petry
Sharks don't "want to make a deal," they'd <strong>like</strong> to make a deal if it gives them sufficient future benefits to justify giving up Erik Karlsson. There's a subtle but definitive difference between the two motivations. But the entire Karlsson situation has been the usual victim of "info creep": what has gone from Mike Grier acknowledging that it might be in San Jose's interest to trade him now, and Erik Karlsson's acknowledgment that he might be open to being traded to a destination of his approval, has morphed into a perception that Karlsson has "demanded" a trade and that the Sharks have now got to trade him.
