<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kous</b></div><div>I would not say the Core 4 doesn't work. Due to the pandemic the Leaf's were cap heavy more than any other team as they just signed their core when it hit.
If they stay the course like they are doing and look to fix the D this summer they will be a heavy favorite in 2025</div></div>
The core 4 has generally been fine at worst too. The issue has pretty much never been them or their production save the Columbus series.
This season is basically everything but them is turning to crap because the new guy didnt address any of the actual issues and their goaltending is a mess because of injuries and one guy turning into a pumpkin for a quarter of the year.
This is why you dont make 'snot' your primary goal to improve a team

Elvis and Chinakhov both requested and rescinded trades because they deservedly got the playing time they wanted. Jiriced hasn't requested a trade, he'll still get the playing time he wants. Fantilli is going through the growing pains but hasn't voiced frustrations. Johnson was the other, but he bought into going to the AHL to start the season and has been great since.
It's almost like the lame duck management group doesn't know how to handle players, and the drama gets fixed by playing the guys they obviously should be playing?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Commonsense27</b></div><div>Sorry buddy, but you're out of touch with the NHL and trade process during the dealine if you think he doesn't go for a first minimum. Averaging a 60pt season on a team that doesn't score, can play wing or center, one of the best faceoff guys, defensively responsable and dirt cheap when half retained. Plus you add in the fact that there isn't a ton of rentals available this year. Bidding war gets a 1st plus</div></div>
Max Domi had 18 goals and 49 points in 60 games last year and was traded for a late 2nd and a literal cap dump. You really out of touch with the NHL trade process
Lol at monahan being defensivly responsible, dude watch the habs and you'd know better

Yeah, it would be nice to get a guy to shoulder some of JT's load, but Monahan isnt that guy. He just gets buried by anything approaching good competition and he's so slow and immobile out there he makes JT look like Mackinnon.
At best, Monahan is an add for a contender who has the ability to run a sheltered 3rd scoring line or has a pair of good 2 way wingers with speed to pair him with, he doesnt really fit in toronto

Best top 9 in league
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>That doesn't make up for the 4 other studs
Holy **** leafs fans are delusional. The devils have the better Cs in the top 4. and the difference between bratt+meier to nylander+marner doesn't outweigh what in this case would be 3 near ppg players and ondrej palat
who else do you have at forward to compare to Toffoli? to buch? to mercer?</div></div>
Buddy here is delusional... Matthews is a top 3 player in the league... He's so much better than Hughes and JT's a PPG, better than Hischier especially with where he scores his goals... All in front of the net in the dirty areas
Marner>Bratt and Nylander>Meier
Bert>Mercer
Domi>Toffoli
And so who's a comp to Knies or Kampf or Jarnkrok?
No need to be blinded by being delusional

Led the league in slot/net front goals just a couple years ago. It's something he does on a regular basis. He's also got a really strong base and protects the puck incredibly well and does tremendous work along the boards. People who think he's soft because he's not aggressive and doesn't hit really don't have a clue.

Could be the worse trade posted this summer. Brodie/Liljegren are superior to Murphy/Zaitsev. Jarnkrok is superior to Anthansiiou. And the Leafs have to give up Robertson and four picks too?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kous</b></div><div>Fingers crossed I was thinking the same when they lost Chara. I really do think they will drop this year but how far is the question.</div></div>
Definitely fingers crossed haha. I get your point about Chara - but I do think losing Bergeron/Krejci is a lot more impactful than losing Chara. Combine that with just natural regression from having the greatest regular season ever - and they should fall. But yeah - the question is definitely how much.
And for what it's worth - they did kind of fall a little bit after Chara. Their point pace dropped like 11 points the following season and they went from 1st to 3rd in the Atlantic.

If the Leaf's need retained they would need to work out the compensation for that with the 3rd team</div></div>
I think Lilly and a 1st for Pesce is a touch light, but not millions of miles away. Toronto would also need to be the team paying for retention. This tried to use the Philly pick that Carolina own, but that's Carolina paying for it.
